I honestly believe there’s been a lot less “flopping” this year, overall, than I’ve seen in the past but that just me might be the games I’m watching.
I agree. The cards are working in that regard. You don't want to pile up unnecessary cards and then have to sit a key match. Also, someone asked earlier in the thread if this Cup set a record for most goals in extra time. I read the other day that this Cup has had the most since 1966 in England.

yes, some much more than others. Until Sweden today I was going to say the Europeans not nearly as much....

I do love it when the Ref just ignores it and they play on lol.

Agreed, probably because they know VAR can reverse PKs awarded to dives. Having said that, some of these guys, like Neymar (who surely has taken a few dives), are being repeatedly fouled hard, which needs to be addressed. The other really annoying thing is how many players are getting in the face of the refs - I wouldn't mind seeing the ref have the ability to throw a guy out of a game for dissent, but letting him be replaced so the game isn't 11-10. That way you punish the guy, but not the team (much).

Giving the guy a yellow card is sufficient. No need to change the rules; just enforce them more quickly and the dissent will cease. Some refs are better at this than others. The others may not really mind a bit of dissent.

In my personal experience with refs, you get to know those whom you can lobby aggressively and complain to, and those whom even a relatively innocuous gesture of dissent will bring a quick warning, if not a yellow.

One time, after a ref didn't see who last touched a ball that went out of the touchline and was hesitating, I held up an arm showing him that it went off the opposing team, at which point he awarded the throw-in to the other team. As I jogged past him, I joked that I should've pointed the other way and he red carded me just for that. Touchy fellow. :)

I think Neymar could touch the ball in a different stadium and the fans would still go nuts
Please no. Mostly because he seems weird and is nearly always caught on camera picking his nose.

...among other things.

James Rodriguez out, could be crucial for Colombia. Haven't been able to pay full attention but looked like Senegal was outplaying them.

So anyway, Kate Abdo....very easy on the eyes. I would let her do things.

FOX should just send Rob Stone home for the knockout stages.

More real time drama. Poland up 1-0 Japan out, now Colombia up 1-0 too now Japan in because of fair play points tie breaker. They said Senegal has 5 yellow cards Japan 3 of course that itself can change through the rest of each match.

EDIT: Japan looking to just kill 5-10 min off hoping for the results hold. Just passing back and forth along the back line. Poland even seems to be doing some of that lol which I don't get. They were out from the start but they've been playing earnestly up until last few minutes. Poland seems content to let them do so because they're not chasing much and the fans are not happy in the stadium.

At least Poland got a win today. Didn’t play well in the tourney. Disappointed they are out, now I pull for England

Colombia - Senegal was entertaining and there was some real drama from this group. However, I don't think Colombia and Japan are going to get past England and Belgium in the round of 16 regardless of who plays who.

social world seems to be fairly annoyed that the 'fair play' stat determined the teams for the group with Senegal/Japan. Seems like a pretty ****** way to decide...although the coin flip is even more ridiculous.
Too bad they're not in a spot to just have a shootout with the teams.

Advancing on cards. Brutal for Senegal.
yep. Considering that the cards are pretty much subjective by the refs, you can argue its not a fair way to judge---if one teams game(s) had a ref with a quick trigger and the other teams had a more forgiving ref. (not saying this was actually the case, but...)

The byproduct of having cards as a tiebreaker is less people flopping this cup. Imagine not advancing because you have some clown rolling around in "pain" and gets a yellow card instead.

I think there are way more fouls on trips, clipped feet, etc than on the flops though. To a degree you could say that rule encourages flops to get the player you slightly tapped you to get a card for something not card worthy.

Agree but as said earlier in this thread there seemed to be a lot less flops this year than before. If this rule lead to a decrease in flops it was a success.

Colombia can most certainly beat Engalnd. The key question will be whether or not James Rodriguez plays

Who do you have in the Portugal vs Uruguay match?

I like Uruguay due to its better offense.

Argentinians must outnumber the French 5 to 1 in the stadium today. It’s stunning how the South American fans have absolutely dominated the European fans during this world cup. You would think it’s a much easier and cheaper trip for the European fan bases.

Really great match 3 to 2 France now just wow!
Yup. I have hard time getting into matches when I have no rooting interest either for or against for whatever reason I can come up with. That was the case with France/Argentina today but it's been fun even without rooting one way or the other.

Mbappe with another one. He's having the game of his life today.
