Is this World Cup setting a record for stoppage time goals? Seems like there are a lot of them.

I'm not a big fan of the way FOX shows the 'live' group standings while a match is still in progress. It's technically incorrect to project the point totals with a match (or matches) in progress, while the goal differential is real-time but not yet final. It's just a premature and a somewhat inconsistent method from the way we're used to knowing the tallies going in at the start of a match, and since we're not talking about complex math here, to just track until the final whistle and then post updated standings/points/GD as matches go final.

It also sucks that they talk about concurrent matches. I DVR everything and have to turn off the sound and avoid looking at the upper left-hand corner so I don't hear all about the other match I haven't watched yet.
Agree- can't stand that. Especially since Iran almost threw everything into chaos yesterday in the span of 2-3 minutes. Not sure what purpose it serves.
There are over 50,000 Argentinian fans in that stadium right now. That it’s simply amazing and they have been singing nonstop the entire game.

The live group standings are useful for what they are - the standings of the current results hold. I like them as it keeps me from having to do the calculation in my head. Adds to the drama as well.
Your missing he point if you try to go silent on the concurrent game. Having the final games played at the same time keeps all 4 teams playing for their own interest. No way the television network ignores this added drama.
Doesn't the Premiere League do the same thing on the final week of games?
I'm with you and it doesn't bother me and frankly I'd want to know what going on real time as well. I flip back and forth if there's real drama. I mean it's hard to avoid it frankly from a broadcast perspective and kind of no way around it.

I don't need artificial drama. I have the actual drama of watching all the games. What the network's are doing is ruining the drama that would take place while actually watching the other game(s).
If people want to know what's happening with other games, they can ask their damn phones. I want the choice to not know; I don't want the ESPN to choose for me.
That's great for you. It sucks for those of us who want to watch the games without flipping back and forth and without knowing the result before we watch it.
It's all about choice and ESPN isn't allowing us the choice to not have the other game(s) ruined for us.
There are only four teams involved and everyone knows the scenarios going in. It’s just a crappy gimmick. They had Germany eliminated 20 minutes into their game vs. Sweden. That’s ridiculous. It’s unnecessary.
The standings are what they are until the game is over. We keep catering to this ADD generation when they don’t give a crap anyway. I’m not a huge ESPN fan but this coverage sucks compared to what they did. Are the Spanish language stations using this BS gimmick? I don’t recall seeing it.
Wow, is that a real problem for anyone? Seriously? You do know that most people, like the Olympics haven't a clue. They can't just cater to those in the know. The info isn't for the well informed, it' for the marginal fan that isn't following like most of us watching every game. Get over it.
Funny thing is, from my POV if I was a marginal fan (I'm actually not particularly hardcore either so perhaps somewhere in between), it'd be more confusing to me to see the standings on the screen changing more frequently than when the results of matches are final.
It' actual time standings. No one should be confused by that. Diehards and once in 4 year watchers have figured it out, nothing confusing about it. Like golf in round scores. Not over until everyone is in the clubhouse.
Yeah. I'm another vote for "let the viewer do the math if they want."
It's Fox but ESPN did the same thing when they had it. Any network would and it won't just be graphics, they will talk about it. I mean I don't watch NFL much anymore but there too same thing where they're scrolling through all the scores of other games and that doesn't even have any sort of drama/playoff type atmosphere that would actually merit discussion, etc...
It's difficult to do what you want and watch simultaneous games in full without interruption by either graphics/commentary. It just can't be ignored by the broadcaster, it's not practical.

I don't remember in the past and I haven't watched the spanish broadcasts this year but I'd be surprised if they didn't discuss or show some of score update in game of simultaneous games especially if there's something riding on both the games.
I just understand that anyone thinks this ruining your experience in watching the World Cup. Great matches so far, extra time or last minute goals. Unless it' Doc calling the NHL playoffs these people are doing marginal fans a solid. I'm amazed by the crybabies about this.

Put a towel or something over that corner. I don't think it will cut off much of the picture. More than your issue, I haven't been a fan of some of the broadcasters myself but I can't mute. They didn't have Germany eliminated, the live standings are merely saying what the end result would be if the current game scores remain unchanged. Like someone said, not unlike the leaderboard at a golf tournament.
So you want Fox to not talk about a game being played live (and televised on their other channel) so you can watch it on your DVR without knowing the result? I think it's you that is manufacturing drama while the network is letting it play out in real time.
Fox Sports Go has 360 coverage with no commentary at all. Also if you are one of those that corrects someone who says a team won 2-nothing and you are fast to correct them by saying 2-nill than you are a jerk. One of the reasons why this sport isnt popular in the US. Trying to embarrassing people is a d!co move.
Interesting that the 2026 World Cup will have 16 3-team groups so the third game in each group will be played with the 2 teams knowing what they need to do to advance. So editorializing, I’d say the 2 pre-tournament higher ranked teams in each group should play last to avoid collusion among two “lesser” teams being used to oust a top 16 ranked team.
I know I'm late to the party, but I scrupulously avoided all media today and just finished watching that amazing Argentina-Nigeria match. Messi's goal might just be the most skillful goal of the WC so far, bringing that long pass down with a touch from the thigh, then a touch from the foot, with both touches executed perfectly, without him slowing down at all, which was critical with a defender just behind him. And, of course the perfect finish with his off-foot. Wow. And he just missd that direct kick, where the keeper made an outrageous save. So dramatic, then, to see if they'd be able to score the winner and that was a cracker of a goal, too. Also watched France-Denmark - snoozefest.
I got pretty caught up in the Argentina - Nigeria game. I wanted to see Argentina do well and they did look much better. Still some odd moments of inattentiveness by a couple players. But so much better than their earlier games.
And yeah, Messi's goal was a thing of beauty. The pass from Banega to Messi for that goal was even more beautiful.
You're reading too much into it. I just think it sucks, that's all. It's not ruining my experience or anything. Now, not having Ian Darke call any games this time around, that's another story...
Huh? They had them down 1-0 and out based on losing. Look it's not a big deal- it's just a stupid gimmick, that's all. It's annoying and I don't see any casual fans riveted to the game because of it being added.
Oh man Sweden just scored come on Germany wake up. They're capable and get chances but they still look out of sorts mostly. Defensively still shaky too. I'm rooting for them but even if they advance wonder how far they'll go if they continue like this.
Awesome! Could you imagine Mexico getting knocked out after pulling 6 their first 2 matches?? They said earlier that 25,000 Mexican fans have already purchased tickets for the next round FOR the 1st place slot’s game.
Sweden could EASILY be up 2/3-0 right now, too.
Right now Germany is out though not Mexico. Haven't been watching as much of the Sweden game.
So, Sweden now up 2-0. If Germany can win their game, Mexico will be ouo. Crazy
