Early match I will be interested in seeing is Friday, Spain vs. Portugal.

Will be interesting to see if Spain implodes with the coaching change this close to the tournament. Mexico v. Germany Sunday at 11 AM will be a good measuring stick for both sides.
Based on feedback that I read the Spain players were pissed big-time. They just went from one of the favorites to potentially not escaping the group stage. The Spain soccer federation sucks!
Interestingly, Gerard Pique, who plays for Barcelona, compared this situation to Michigan in 1989. Said they'd be fine. Of course, the manager Spain fired is going to Real Madrid. Yeah, nothing there.

Uruguay will win group A, but I bet it will come down to goal differential between Russia and Egypt for the second spot, ie. who can score the most goals against the Saudis.

Yeah, that coaching situation is crazy. Reminds me a little of when Schembechler fired Bill Frieder at UM because he took the ASU job right before the NCAA tournament. Steve Fisher and UM went on to win it all. Hmmm....

Not worried about that so much since I grew up watching the Cup without us until 1990. Maybe the most glaring absences are Italy and the Netherlands.
Tough, tough loss for Egypt today in the 89th minute, as Uruguay finally broke through on a set piece after a foul (an unnecessary one, really), and won 1-0. Egypt had played brilliantly, staying compact and well organized on defense and manufacturing a few nice chances to score, even without Salah playing. Can't wait for Spain - Portugal later today.
They went with the young guy today and he played really well, making one outstanding save on Cavani and another on Suarez. Had no chance on the header goal.
You beat me to it! Great save on Suarez in the second half. The header was amazing. Egypt played a real smart match. They almost got the point. Almost!

The Russian announcer inside the stadium sounds like he should be broadcasting Rocky 4 haha. It sounded "artificial" almost like a Russian version of those Mortal Kombat "finish him" voices.

I don't follow soccer much but it didn't sound like they're using the goal line technology in this World Cup. I feel like they have used it in either the Euro or previous cups, I don't see why they wouldn't use it, especially cause it looks like they're reviewing all goals.

Ronaldo strikes again! Although should've been stopped by the goalie. Actually Ronaldo could have 3 now, had a decent chance earlier gave it up and the guy didn't anything with it. Probably should've just shot it himself on that chance.
