Wow. Saw a bit of the first half and missed most of the 2nd but looked at the goals. Belgium is good offensively but I've said their defense eh. They didn't really challenge Japan on those 2 goals one on the counter and one from some distance. Gave them time to shoot.
You know one thing I notice about Asian teams like South Korea and Japan too is that they give up their bodies like crazy on defense. Frankly, they're probably more used to playing on the defensive that anything.
And just as I type that Belgium gets a goal. 2-1. Looked like a cross headed that ended up in the goal haha.

I'm with Meola, I don't know that that was intentional. It looked like a cross to me too. If it was intentional what placement and touch off a header.
It's aweseome. Thought I may have came in a little late with Japan up 2-0 but nope seems like I came in at a good time
Yes great reaction, but if Lukaku doesn't head it right to him he scores. Lukaku has had several great opportunities and has not scored.
Oh well Japan. Good effort but likely taken away in the last minutes. 3-2 Belgium. Offensively damn good team I tell ya.
I enjoyed it and I only really got to watch the last 25-30 minutes of it. I must be good luck for Belgium they started their scoring a little while after I started watching haha.

Not a big soccer fan but I haven't cared for their coverage either and it's not even the technical stuff like you mention. Have never liked Dellacamera, color guys eh, Lalas even though RU guy eh....but some of them were on ESPN too. I like Ian Darke myself.
The greatest thing about rooting for Belgium is the post game celebrations. Been stocking up on Belgians and Belgian styles. Fridge is full of St. Bernardus 6,8 &12s. One of those big bottles will disappear today after I finish this fabulous Cape May Brewing's Devil's Reach appropriately named for a Red Devils victory.
Ventonghen goal was awesome. Lucky? Aren't they all? It was truely indefensible though.

Japan grew noticbly tired around the 65th minute. Their work rate up till then was astonishing. They continued to work hard, but after the 65th minute, decision making was a bit off and transition defense was slowed.
I don’t know the Japanese roster, but I wonder what made their coach so slow to sub some energy onto the field. Perhaps the great chemistry on the field warranted a bit of time to see if it was truly fatigue or maybe just a lull.
Belgium’s coach made some good subs and a bit of adjustment in play on D to cover the edges a bit better.

Ok..just thought of an exciting method. Add a 2nd ball for the 2nd it and a 3rd for the third lol. How crazy funny would that be.
By the way this Switzerland versus Sweden game might be the single most boring game of the cup so far. The crowd is probably only about 20% fans of the two sides and is generally quiet otherwise. The game itself, wow, absolutely nothing exciting so far And we’re almost 40 minutes in.
I think we'll find out who is deeper, Belgium or Brazil.
After Germany's flame-out, my money is now on Brazil, who have not peaked yet, and appear to be getting stronger as the tournament goes on. Although they have some injury and yellow-card issues which might make the next round difficult.
Now you sound like Stu Holder Lol... How on earth do you know that Brazil hasn’t “peaked yet”?! I give a lot of credit to Brazil’s win, yesterday, Osario to be honest. His personnel decision making the last two games Mexico played in was ******* awful. Still not sold on Brazil, sorry, but not really sold on anyone to be honest ha ha Ha!! #hookersandblow
Doesn’t look nor sound like “Medallin” as the announcers keep claiming. Looks/sounds about dead-even to me during anthems.
I should have said "seemed" not to have peaked. Sorry.
But I say it because Brazil has, at various points in their group stage games, and their round-of-sixteen game, played at a very high level. But they have not actually played at that level for an entire half or entire game yet.
Combine that with their much improved play in the first knock-out round, where they played at a very high level for longer periods of the game, but still not the whole game, and it's a pattern I've seen many times in teams that go on to win championships.
Basically, they have yet to play their best soccer for an entire 90 minutes. But they have played brilliantly for long enough periods in this last game that it's clear that the less frequent group-stage brilliance wasn't a fluke. Thus they have the capacity to be brilliant for 90 minutes.
Doesn't mean it will happen. Just means that they give every appearance of a team that has yet to peak (or play their best game) in this tournament.

Colombia doesn't look that good to me and frankly England doesn't impress me either. The great performances from earlier in the tourney seem like a result of the competition than England's talent/skill.

I work at a Distribution Center. Lots of excitement Monday for Brazil v Mexico, some more excitement for Colombia today. And they all want to see England lose.
