I read perfectly fine and it’s readily apparent you and your buddy are triggered because a 19 year old kid (as well as many others in the past and there will be in the future) made a life decision. Get over it.

(You’re triggered that I had the audacity to have a negative take on the current landscape of this program. Get over it.).

Are you an NBA scout? Nope, so stop acting like you know what the scouts have told him. Cal’s been here for 10 years and this happens every year and posters like you get all upset like it’s never happened before.
I dont get upset because "it hasn't happened before"... I get upset because it keeps happening too frequently. Neither Keldon, Herro or even PJ are Zion or even Reddish. I understand the AD'S, KAT'S are one and done.... just dont understand the Herros of the world.

You're right. I don't expect any of them to come back anymore. I'm shocked we got IQ and Hagans back actually.

The system is broken and it's because it's broken that we'll likely never feature another super team at Kentucky.
Nah. UK will be just fine.

Happy for Tyler or any kid chasing their pro dreams and aspirations. That being said, with our recruiting and roster turnover being the way it is currently, it's going to be extremely difficult for Cal to win another title here. He very well may, but I'm starting to have my doubts.

On the bright side, I guess this basically assures that Baker stays put, along with the rest of the guards. I never thought Herro's return was the key for us next year, like most people, anyway. We should be fine at guard. This team's success will depend on the impact the freshmen will have and whether or not EJ and/or Richards become a force down low. JMO.

I knew people would get butthurt about my honest opinion. I’d love to be wrong. I’m just being honest with myself.

Clean slate optimism is the opium of this message board. I think we could cut down some nets down the road, but it's frustrating seeing all the missed opportunities mount up over the years. For some, just being in the discussion is enough. I respect that but I don't think fans should piss on UK fans who rightfully have pointed out flaws in the current structure.

On a positive note, I absolutely love Cal's present adaptation with the grad transfers. I think it's a good trend that could lead to a title in the near future.

Herro wants to get paid and be a millionaire. It doesn’t mean he still doesn’t love UK.

UK has 3 McDonald’s AAs returning next year, plus Hagans. Cant really ask for more.

I don’t sense any discord. If the Cats don’t contend next year then it will be because the frosh aren’t good enough, that there isn’t a true stud or two among them.

Well we spent the first part of this season with discord concerning quade. There was also cal alluding to it being a problem toward the end of the year. Richards thought he’d be OAD. You can’t sell that expectation any longer. What if quickly takes minutes from hagans or maxey takes them? Haggans thought he was sure fire OAD. There’s nothing to sense until they start playing games then we will see

Compute this. Cal is bringing in less talent. Instead of top tens now he’s losing late first rounders to the draft. He is still dependent upon OAD yet the trend since 2016 has been less talent each season. Things are not tending in cals favor to win another natty idk how you can conclude that. Jay Wright and billy D had guys stick around. That’s not cals mo. Unless he significantly changes he’s not winning another one. It took 3 super teams for him to get one.

Now if cal starts recruiting 2-3 grad transfers a year that will change the calculus but as it stands with his current trend it is going the wrong direction.

I’m pretty good at statistics so I know that he probably gets another if he sticks around long enough. I could literally show you the calculations, but would there be any point?

You’re pretty good at being negative so you will rail against him year after year and will usually be right. Because winning a championship is hard, and there’s usually a 90%+ chance that you’re right if you bet against one specific team.

Then when he finally gets another, you slink away, or credit it to luck, or whatever. This ain’t my first Rafter’s rodeo.

So. Let me get this straight.

Herro is obviously getting positive feed back.
He’s a phenomenal FT% shooter. He can catch and shoot exceptionally well (something the NBA highly values). Has an high basketball IQ.

But he’s “average” at best. Ok.

He’s obviously hearing different from scouts and NBA reps. You know, people that are actually paid to eat, sleep, breathe basketball.
But with good feedback and a Top 20 pick he’s supposed to return.

Tyler is actually projected higher than PJ. And people think he should stay. Yeah. Ok.

Boy. Can’t wait for the meltdown when KJ (who’s a Top 10 pick) leaves.

What is it you don’t understand about the “Herros of the world”? He’s projected as a high draft pick and could possibly work himself into a lottery pick ala Devin Booker.

I’ll have to see it to believe it. (Cal becoming a grad transfer monster.)

But you know, Reid getting drafted in the 2nd round could help. I could also see K doing it just so we didn’t get some dudes.

I'm also a little surprised he didn't wait a bit longer to gather more feedback.

No one to be mad at.. but it is getting tiring seeing these guys do just enough to get drafted. Cal has now gone into the 20's, 30's and even 40's for recruits and still loses a handful of them after one year.

Losing Herro really has me ready for 1AD to end. Let 8 or 9 of the top10 go to the draft out of highschool. Everyone wins. Players win. College basketball wins. NBA gets what it wants.

Honestly the only loser in this system, right now, is Cal and our fans. If we can barely scratch the top10 anymore, then lets move on from 1AD recruiting.

Keldon & Herro did did not look anything like pros vs Auburn & in the tourney. The Auburn guards did look like pros evidenced by the bitchslapping they gave KJ & Herro.

I’m pretty good at stats too and if he stays on the same trajectory he’s not getting another one. I don’t need a computer and an algorithm to tell me that the majority of the talent he will get has already come through the doors. 2016 marked the first year of a steep decline in talent and in a couple years that talent will go straight to the nba. If cal is to win another title it will have to be by a methodology far different than what he’s doing.

Don’t forget cal has what 25 years of coaching under his belt and 1 title. If cal wins another title I will credit it to cal and his willingness to flex away from what he’s doing now bc that’s what it will take.

Lol. Well a lot on this board think ncaa titles are a birth right of UK fans. Our history proves that to be a total delusion.

Others merely want to beat good teams we're favored against more than once every two or three years in the tournament, which is the trend since 2014 ended. That's where I stand. UK has beaten two teams in the tournament that were worth a damn since the 2014 season ended: Notre Dame in 2015 and UCLA in 2017. Every of other game against teams of substance has resulted in a tournament loss and some of them I wouldn't even consider to be "teams of substance" (Kansas State).

Duke has 3 too draft picks (2 being in the top 3) and should’ve lost two more of their tourney games. It’s called pressure. And there is nothing more stressful in sports than the one and done NCAA tournament.

Point being, even future pros will look like crap some games. Hell. Lebron looks like crap some games and he’s one of the highest paid pros around.

Cal is too successful. Next time a freshman starts to pop off, Cal should cut his minutes and tell him to stop shooting

I doubt Cal made a pitch. He probably said to go. He isn't Roy Williams.
I don't think he "pitches" staying...but it seems like, he does "pitch" leaving, if he thinks that are not going to improve significantly improve their draft position.
I think his ego wont let him "pitch" a kid to stay...

SGA choked in 2018 against Kansas State, but it didn't hurt his stock.

I get both arguments. I'm just tired of losing any player of substance that our team features. To be honest, none of our returning guys showed me anything of substance last season (IQ, Baker, Hagans, Nick, EJ). We can talk about how great it is to get those guys back, and I hope they improve, but can anyone honestly look me in the face and tell me they performed better than most of the rotation returners for most other SEC teams? Their Mickey D credentials don't mean squat at this point.

Even PJ returning last year wasn't much of an incredible moment for our fan base because we knew he was probably getting drafted in the 50s last year. He might have even went undrafted like Gabriel.

The bottom line is that we haven't returned a kid who was projected in the top 40 of the draft the year he returned since Willie Cauley Stein back in 2014. That's a long damn time ago and it's why portions of the base, while understanding the Cal is right for the job, have also turned into cynics regarding player retention.

Deferring their "dreams" for one season would give UK a real title shot and allow some of these guys to improve. Seeing that none of that matters to the players is the type of thing that hollows out a fan base's optimism over time.

Sorry, idgaf about Wisconsin. I speak for 99.% of U.K. fans when I say that. I couldn’t care less if it makes myself or any other U.K. fan insecure. We were screwed on some bad missed calls including a pivotal shot clock that of course was missed by Higgins.
Yeah, I was having so much fun that season, I’d forgotten we were preseason $$$ to hang #9. Then Higgins reminded me. The Vegas influences shining through almost made me quit watching. Now I just expect it.

Auburn had great collegiate guards. However, their measurables are awful for the next level.

Brown is a 6’2 SG, and Harper is a 5’11” PG.

Everyone that comes to Kentucky does so to go to the league.

He worked his butt off, displayed a lot of talent, and put himself in a very good position in the draft. Pretty much changing his life forever. Good for him. Had fun watching him and he represented UK well. I have no doubts he will continue to do so. Just as so many others have and still are.

Or you could take your negative view and complain when a kid comes here and reaches their dream. And I’m sure it’s a negative view because, well, you’re here. About the only time you show up.

Lol, you’re hilarious. If/when Cal wins another title you will conveniently acknowledge that he made some “necessary” adjustment, just as you suggested he should, and that was the only way he was able to pull it off.

The fact that we were within a shot of the Final Four in two of the last three years doesn’t register with your kind.

The fact that the team that won it all this year needed multiple miracle finishes? Not even a blip on your radar.

No, there’s a magic formula. You’ve got it. Cal doesn’t. If he ever gets as smart as you then maybe, just maybe, he’ll have a shot again.

If you had any idea how stupid this all sounds, you would shut up forever. But we all know better than that. You’ll just keep blasting Cal until Cal finally pulls it off...then you’ll take all the credit. [laughing]

Anyway, nice talking to you. And maybe pass the Cheetos.

It really is disheartening to deal with this every year. If we were getting FF's from it, it would be easier to accept. I don't blame the kids one bit for going if they are 1st round, it's what Cal has made coming to KY all about.

He doesn't sell them on the experience of playing for the most dominant Blue Blood of all time and trying to finish a career that could put them among some of the most elite players of all time.

No, I believe it goes like this, Cal says, you come play for me and if you play hard and show out your talent enough to get the scouts attention, we will use the Ky effect to get you drafted asap.

Can't blame the kids, it's on Cal. I will never agree with his way of doing it but I will still root for us every year to catch that lightning in a bottle.

He had a few not so good games, cough Tournament, but his A-game is elite at his age, for his size/ athleticism etc. As he matures physical, you’ll see more of that for a long time in the NBA.

Houston was decent, but they weren't particularly noteworthy. Do they even have an NBA player? Maybe Corey Davis?

2017 Wichita State was a 10 seed for a reason. Kinda surprised you're inflating them.

And loosely talking about UK's historical flameouts is fine if all you're willing to do is mitigate present failures by constantly pointing to past standards, but it does nothing to extend the current conversation regarding ways UK can actually advance farther in the tournament. Can you imagine a fortune 500 company constantly deflecting from their current marketing failures by comparing themselves to what they did in the 1980s? "Well, at least we're better now, so this year's failure doesn't really matter because it measures well with historical standards."

I'm not sure if Cal would prescribe to that type of thinking.

If I came to you and said, “You’re great at your craft. I want you to work for me. You’ll have a guaranteed contract and make at least a guaranteed 4 MILLION a year. Oh and btw there’s opportunity for bonus and there’s a company who we’re partnered with that if you become really good may make you a marketer for their stuff. That may net you a cool 100m per product line” and you told me no? Especially at 19–22 years old? I’d call you stupid. And I’d be right.

If some one came to me tomorrow and just offered me 2 million? You’d never see my happy but again. And that’s a one time buy.

It’s not like the people we have leaving suck at basketball. Sure. I’d take him back too. But to criticize Cal when at the end of the day the decision comes to the kid and their parent? Silly.

It reminds me of the scene from “My Cousin Vinny” where Vinny makes a lucid and eloquent objection. Judge even compliments him on it. “Oh. Thank you Your Honor.” “Overruled.”

Cal could give the best presentation on Earth of why they should return to UK. If his parents and himself are ready to take millionS (with an S) all they have to say is “Sorry. But we will be staying in the draft.”
