Me too. K would have brought one of Keldon/Herro back or possibly both. Cal just won’t convince these dudes. The writing is on the wall.
Are you suggesting Cal should lie to them and tell them they won’t get drafted very high and turn down millions of dollars? You’re just having a knee-jerk reaction to a 19 year old kid doing exactly what you would have done if the opportunity was afforded to you.

Because to say that one of the best coaches in the country at the best program in college basketball will definitively never win another title is just ignorant. Especially since we’ve been to the Elite 8 7 out of his 10 years here. College basketball is a game of breaks, we’ll have another 1 or 2 break our way while Cal is here I’d bet anything on it
I respect your opinion, but that was when Cal was getting the absolute cream of the crop. He hasn't been doing that lately, which I don't think is his fault.

I get the frustration but there is no guarantee that K would have convinced either to come back . Frank Jackson, Trevon Duval and Gary Trent Jr are the freshmen that left early and their stock was not as high as Herro or KJ

I know he's gone, but has keldon said anything like this? Ir is he still keeping his options open?

*sigh* *slowly banging head on desk, gradually gaining speed*

Did you really not see this coming?

If this news causes you to bang your head then you haven't been paying attention to how things work here over the last decade. From the first time I saw him projected first round I've presumed he was gone.

I agree with that as well. I do think he is starting to adapt to not getting the best of the best anymore. He’s a good enough coach to get us back to the top. So while you’re entitled to your opinion, I will respectfully disagree lol

I have felt since the season ended that KJ would be the only one of the top 3 we had a chance to get back. He may still go, but his lack of defensive output shows. I know he wants to go and hopefully he gets his dream but weakness will show in the combine imo.

You can’t offer an exception after making a definitive statement like that lol

Yeah I can
BS. Ask Trevon Duval or Gary Trent Jr. Both of them jumped ship after one year and neither had the draft stock Herro or KJ has. One went undrafted the other 2nd round

K had a similar player in Herro stay 4 years. Spare me your BS. When’s the last time K had a 4 star one and done? Cal’s had 3 of them in the last 4-5 years.

No brainer for the kid. Can't pass up being a top 20 NBA draft pick. I think he'll have a long, solid NBA career.

Also, I don't think it's a coincidence that the team Cal won a title with didn't have extreme roster turnover the year before. I'm not going to say Cal's not going to win another one but it's going to be very difficult losing so many guys that you recruit to be 2-3 year players.

Cal’s players flourish in his system for the most part more so than K’s do in his from a one and done perspective. For better or for worse.

The freshmen who have played at UK aren’t the same players they turned into in the NBA. And posters like you want juniors and seniors- you cant have it both ways. And having juniors and seniors led UK teams has been an abysmal failure as far as winning titles the 50 years before Cal got here.
I want juniors and seniors mixed with a couple one and dones. I want players who after a year or two of not being able to jump to the pros, will stay for their senior day.

3rd 4 star recruit to be a 1 and done. We recruited these kids to be the foundation for the future. Our recruiting has changed. It’s not as good, and our return is the same. But I’m havin a knee jerk reaction by saying we aren’t winning another title? K

Herro is also projected top 20. The fact that he was a 4 star is irrelevant now. History says go in these situations and most do. I wish he would come back but you blaming Cal in a negative way for Herro’s draft stock sky rocketing then him leaving is ignorant

Want to bet?
I’ll bet. Any amount of money you want. If a player is even half *** decent they bolt after a year. On top of that we have Cal’s track record of being out coached late in the tournament if we make it that far.

It’s just not going to happen. With players having one foot at UK and the other in the draft from day 1, the only way he wins again is by landing super classes. It’s clear that he can’t do that anymore.

In 10 years, we will have had 3, count em, THREE, players with any sort of legit talent that Cal recruited stay more than 2 years and that includes Richards assuming he doesn’t transfer. Well, I guess you can say 5 if you throw in Hawkins and Willis.

But that’s absolutely pathetic. That system has no chance to win a title. 2012 was a perfect storm. We land the schools best player ever and another alltimer who was drafted 2nd. The nba lockout scare pushed Jones back to us, had probably UK’s best shooter ever (Lamb), and a senior leader who was athletic/skilled and could shoot/defend. We will never have another Darius. Nobody will stay long enough. We will also never have another Davis. Out of all that junk we have a better chance of another lockout than a Miller or Davis, and the chances of a lockout are slim to none.

It’s depressing as ****.

Where did I blame Cal?

What have I said that was negative towards Cal?

I’m lost.

I'm just sick of the turnover. Would be OK if we could get another NC or at least a FF.
Just for sh!tz & giggles, I’d like to see Cal bring in a solid 3* or two. Could maybe one of them also make it OAD as well? Why not lol!

Our return is the most wins by any program since Cal arrived here.

You act like we should be shitting out a title every year.

Hate to break it to you, but these are college kids. All you can ask is that they make it to the second weekend of the tourney. After that it's a crap shoot, as evidenced by the fact that the team with the best odds rarely ever wins it.

Duke just got bounced out of the tourney with the best player in a decade. You think they're calling for K's job? Didnt they get upset by a #15 seed not that long ago? How many final fours has Roy Williams gone to since Cal took over?

Only at UK could producing 30 win seasons every year be considered a failure.

I can tell you what I got sick off. Having junior and senior teams of top 10 recruiting classes year after year, decade after decade never winning titles. And losing to teams like UAB and Middle Tennessee State in the first weekend sometimes.

By saying he won’t convince these kids to stay. Like you know what Cal is telling each individual player. Herro made the right decision. It sucks. But is what it is

I'd trade some of the talent for some of Cal's early UMASS coaching. The bastard can coach , I'd just like to see him do more of it instead of relying on talent.

Ok let’s bet. I’m already way ahead in our previous Jamal Murray vs Malik Newman Argument we were a year ago. Might as well add another to the list. I’ll admit as to not reading your post as it is probably the same negative propaganda you like to regurgitate on here every few weeks.

Yeah you are having a knee jerk reaction.
It’s none of your business what these kids do with their lives. We don’t OWN them. And what if they did come back and got hurt? Would you help take care of him, give him job, donate money to him? Hell no you wouldn’t, so stop acting like these kids owe you anything.

Without top 3-5 recruits, we needed kids like Herro to come back. Look at the Final-4 this year people. How many one and dones? Now, that’s not to say You can’t win with one and dones. But I firmly believe you need to right combination of both to win at Kentucky, because we’ll never start more than 1 senior with Cal here. And I still don’t want any other coach. He’s our best option for now.

Cal ain’t winning another title here. We’ll field good teams, but he ain’t winning a title playing second fiddle to Duke in recruiting and managing the exact same roster turnover.

What chance would you have honestly given TT of getting to the title game after losing 6 of their top 8 players last year? Declarative statements are usually just opinions. Nobody can tell what is going to happen.

4 years @ Wisky or 1 year @ UK

That was a no brainer

The future is not as certain
This is what pisses me off. If he goes to Wisconsin then UW gets 3-4 years of him putting up big numbers and he probably ends up around a 2,000 point scorer. But instead he comes here and all of a sudden there’s a magical nba wand sticking out of his *** that makes him leave after one year putting up pretty good points but on very average at best shooting percentages.
