Pretty close to where I am too.

I'm not at all confident he is willing / able to change and adapt to today's game, but he has long been an innovator (for better or worse) and deserves every chance to do so.

At the same time, if Texas comes along and plucks him away tomorrow, so be it.

As a long time huge Cal fan, I can't believe I just said that, but here we are.
Who is on your short list?

You couldn’t pay me enough to deal with some of the fans even though the great fans outnumber the loud, obnoxious and entitled, it still would be to much to take on thinking you have to keep people happy instead of doing what you envision and managing your team.
OMG. So you wouldn't take $9M a year because some fan tweets something that hurts your feelings? Lol.

You do realize that Cal does not engage with any fan that he doesn't want to engage right?

Only Cal's inner circle actually have access to Cal's world and that doesn't include Joe Fan.

Now, it is obvious that Cal or someone close to him chooses to read fans comments on social media, so if that is what is causing him to be butthurt at the fans, that's on him.

I am sure that Mitch is hearing more than Cal and not just from us nobodies. Those elite donors who make the wheels turn for all UK athletics are not happy with the current state of the program and they are not posting their concerns on social media.

Cal can't lash out at those folks so he takes his frustration out on the little people who have no way to respond other than places like this.

I don't think you understand. If Cal leaves you're not getting Coach K, Brad Steven's etc. You're going to go backwards. All I can say is I told you so when it happens.
We just went 9-16, nine wins at Kentucky. Explain to me how much worse ANYBODY we hire could be, even the 2 drunks we had coaching us Sutton and Gillespie never had a season this bad. Tubby who we literally ran out of town never lost more than 12-13 games. It is not 2012 ,it’s 2021 and the 2012 Cal is not the 2021 Cal. We need a change if it turns out badly it can’t be any worse than it is right now. Are you trying to say an Oates or a Beard could only win 8 games a season here.

Cal had a good run... It was fun. However since 2015 it just hasn't been as fun nor the same as his first 5 years.

I'm cool with moving onto a more collegiate coach.

I think 2015 broke the entire fanbase. It is what it is.
Who’s on your list?

I don’t believe that the “ kitchen sink” Texas would offer Cal would be anywhere close to what he makes here. Plus I promise you Texas would NEVER pay a basketball coach more than it pays its football coach, anyone who thinks that knows nothing about Texas football. Just not happening. Wether Cal would bolt for a considerable pay cut is a different question. My take is his ego would not allow it but time will tell

Hope it all comes true but Beard to Ky. We can do better than that.
Beard's teams flop more than duke. I myself don't like that kind of basketball. Then when other teams flop on his team he throws a temper tantrum, like a little kid. Kentucky can do better than that. I guess Beard learned throw those temper tantrums form sorry *** bobby knight.

You could not pay me enough money to put up with this unrealistic, narrcistic fanbase. In fact if I were him, I'd go ahead & have as bad a season as possible next year & commit some violations while I was at it. Then retire & laugh.
#ijoke
Well, you come on here every single day to ***** and moan about the fans for free. And could Cal really have a worse year than last year?
Grace, my ***.

But you come here every day and get paid nothing. Come off it. If you can't handle some fans, deservedly so, giving you hell about having the worst season in program history, then your aren't worth 9 million. 9 million. You know how much that is? Think about it. Or were you just saying that for dramatic effect?

I totally understand. I have been around a long yimw. If Cal leaves UK will be fine. We have been every time a coach left. You Cal nut huggers are the ones who don’t understand.

I’m telling right now 9 million isn’t near enough to put up with this stuff and I’m sure every fan base has them so it’s not just UK.
I will say this, when Calipari does leave it’s going to be a very interesting coaching search.

Seems like it's ok for Cal to throw barbs at the ignorant rednecks from Possum Trot, but the fans can't show their disgust. Looks like a double standard.

You're just bring stupid by looking at this one year & concluding it means Cal sucks. I mean how in the world do you guys not understand when there is a very abnormal, uncharacteristic year for a Cal team that maybe there's a reason.

Hmmm...wonder what might have contributed to such a year? Were there some unusual circumstances? Help me out...I'm not smart enough to figure it out. Oh & maybe those same circumstances contributed to Duke, MSU, & some others having very uncharacteristic seasons as well.

But no...that's too simple right? The real reason is that Cal, Coach K, & Tom Izzo just suck all of a sudden. The game passed them by.

Funny the 68 teams that MADE the NCAA tournament had to play under the same circumstances UK did, wonder why they won more than 9 games. They had the same Covid restrictions we did yet they managed to succeed and proceed. Last I checked Izzy MADE the tourney this year, Duke didn’t but then they adopted the same bankrupt one and done system Cal runs with similar results. I never said Cal “ sucked” what I said is UK needs a change, and that just about any competent coach in America can win more than 9 games at a place like Kentucky. If you can’t see that we are in the outhouse rather than the penthouse Indon’t know what to tell you.

Isn't it weird that his last press conference he listed a handful of changes he wanted to make that are the same our so-called awful fans have been clamoring for over the past 3-4 years?

Here's the thing, rational people don't limit their assessment to most recent few years. The guy can flat out coach even if the hilljacks don't want to acknowledge it because he doesn't pander to you and make you feel like your opinion matters.
Hilljacks? You do a lot of name calling on the message board. I doubt you'd be so bold in person.

Most of you sure don't know Coach Cal very well and how much he hates his first losing season if you look at his overall head coach record this was his first bad season.

Coach Cal is not a Head Coach that has this 1 bad season with so many factors in it and then run to coach at another school. Coach Cal would not leave a school like Kentucky and especially how high Cal talks about Kentucky 24x7. Coach Cal talks how great Kentucky is, the players, recruiting here, the fanbase, and how big UK is to Coach Cal. Coach Cal would make sure and return and turn this around to where it was before the last 2 seasons due to Covid-19 and get back to the Final Four and Winning it All. Coach Cal is not the type of person, head coach, etc. to go 9-16 and then try and run to another school because he doesn't like how the fanbase treats him.

Cal is tough and will comeback next season and turn this around and get back to UK making that deep run in the NCAA Tourney and getting to the Final Four and winning another Championship at Kentucky. Cal had many opportunities to leave UK just like when UCLA came knocking and he continues to say he has the best coaching job and the best basketball team & Fans in the Country. Cal will be back next year and he will get this turned around and back to winning 30+ games a season, deep run in tourney and getting back to Final Four and the best School to do that at is at KENTUCKY Basketball!!

That is quite the coincidence. But fan-haters like kl40504/kybass, jace whatever, gracie, sk73, and all the others say that we don't know what we're talking about.

cal worked for years for a job @ kentucky. He knows this the destination, why go down a few rungs to a school with a aging stadium, little to no care about basketball, and play second fiddle to football?

2015 showed Cal will never win another title and he lost a lot of support after.
