Texas Going After Calipari?

Cal loves to leave his programs in much worse shape than when he started so the timing seems about right.
Memphis was 23-8 the year after he left. Doesnt seem so bad considering they hired a 32 year old rookie coach. Cal was 33-4 his last year there.

Cal you can leave in good graces if you just GO. Just be gone GO. You divided the fan base past the point of no return and the only way we come back together is to start over, without you. Please do the right thing and get out of Lexington. GO

The mutual respect between many fans and Calipari has ended. Just GO Barney make him GO
Cal did not divide the fan base. There has always been division. But it has been just over the last 20 years that we know the division lines more accurately. We can identify each other by the fake names on a message board.

Cal fixing the mess he has created is my entire short list.

It's the only realistic option -- at least at this point.

He has been an innovator in the past. We all need to hope he can do it again.
That is the smart answer and I have every confidence that he can do so again

Depends on how you look at it. Cal clearly tried to put the fans in their place as he sees it. Cal thinks he is playing 3 level chess while the fan base is learning checkers. Some fans finally grew tired of his attitude while others stuck with Cal, if that isn't dividing a fan base i don't know what else it might be. We are in the midst of the Tubby wars 2.0.. I was on the other side of the fence at that time but I was wrong. I won't get fooled again it is time for him to go. The shelf life of a coach at UK is now about 10 years.

I wish I thought Cal could fix things here but I am convinced he can't, we have to move on. I hope Cal takes the Texas job if it is a real possibility otherwise we will be stuck in limbo with him for another year or two.

JMO, but if Calipari were to jump to Texas, it would be a terrible look for him. Just finishing a 9-16 season and catching some guff from fans because of it. Then, bolting to a lower tier program to escape the heat without fixing the mess HE created? That's a punk move and I can't believe his ego would allow that.
Not arguing he shouldn't do it, just stating that the optics would be really bad.
Well like I said in another thread then we will know what UMASS and Memphis felt like after he left there programs!

This confuses me, because maybe I havent heard everything.. but aside from some shade at press conferences.. how did he try and "put fans in their place"?

To me.. the ornery part of our fanbase lost their **** this year, raved and ranyed every day for months, and years past when we lost games.. and he finally threw it back at them.

I dont see that as putting fans in their place unless I'm missing something he said?

Cal had a year long string of comments which seemed to disparage, diminish and blame fans for any number of things. If a program doesn't have fans it can't maintain status as a "blue blood" It seems to me Cal underestimates how important a fan base is to a program.. The media has said for years that the UK fans are some of the most knowledgeable in college basketball, Cal seems to think the opposite

I don't know if I agree with him on blaming fans for our losses.. but they 100% aren't innocent in this either. Doesn't matter if they're the smartest fanbase in college. The forums here have been taken up by media outlets before, shared to hundreds of our Rivals forums.. Disinformation has been spread often. I'm fine if Cal takes up against the fringe fans. I mean, if you can dish it all year, you shouldn't be surprised if the coach fires back at some point.

The media has said just that on many occasions. They , the media, witness the fan behavior and interaction during game time. I have been to many games and it is a good experience. Fans are respectful and know when there is a good play or a bad call. On this board , not so much.

I don’t believe that the “ kitchen sink” Texas would offer Cal would be anywhere close to what he makes here. Plus I promise you Texas would NEVER pay a basketball coach more than it pays its football coach, anyone who thinks that knows nothing about Texas football. Just not happening. Wether Cal would bolt for a considerable pay cut is a different question. My take is his ego would not allow it but time will tell
Florida paid its b-ball coach more than the football coach

Fair enough, after a season like this past one there is plenty of blame to go around.

Define fringe.

The 10% or so that want Cal gone, no matter what. Morg, KYFANINNC.. I think you're pretty close to this grouping, quite honestly. There is no reasoning with them. If Cal were to get back to a Final 4 next year, they'd cheer through gritted teeth, pissed that Cal just bought himself another 3-4 years.

Anyone who wants a coach gone, where one of the main reasons is his politics. The types who bump the "I want Cal gone "thread several times a day. The fans that, IMO, would rather see Kentucky suffer if it means sticking it to Cal.

Not upset one bit that Cal took a few stances against them in press-conferences. I think calling out that fringe portion of the fanbase was well deserved. And no, I don't think they give this program a good look. I think they will hinder the hiring process, and we're not going to get the coach we want to replace Cal.

.. or maybe I'm wrong, and we get the guy we want, and he makes Cal an after thought. Can't wait to see how it plays out.

This is a place, among other things, to vent a little. Some go to far. Sure. But to act as if everyne on here or a majority here are the cause for Sallis or any other recruit to go elsewhere is ludicrous.
This is a fan board. I don't hink most on here have such a low IQ to do such a thing as contact a player or a recruit. Some knuckledraggers might. Every fanbase has those.. Pretty sure players and recruits know those are not the norm nor a representation of the whole fanbase.
Twitter is a cesspool from all points and opinions. Anyone who contacts Cal, his family, or a recruit or player to say awful things is a loser of the highest degree.
Tucker is a slug for implying UK lost a recruit because of the fans. He's just doing it to draw interest to his woke employer. Pure douche.

It does seem like the racial stuff from Tucker was overblown.. but I still don't know why we can trust *this* twitter course but not *that* Twitter source.. Is it possible that both had SOME factor? Maybe not..

Also, I deal with the "fringe" fans for my Rockets and my Jets..

10%. Wow. I think you overestimate that number like you do your opinion on some things.
You seem to think labeling people like that makes you above the fray and one of the enlightened ones. It doesn't. Makes you the same with a different horse you ride.
I have said numerous times that I want Cal to change. That a motivated and hungry Cal has no peer. I just do not think he will change. This off season seems to be going like so many before it. That is why I would rather he leave.

If you knew as much as you think you do, you could see the difference, but you just lump everyone together that has a opinon opposite of yours.

That you approve of fans being belittled by Cal is typical of those like you that think they are the higher form of the specie.

Tucker and Matt jones types. YOU are wrong. UK survived before Cal, and will survive after him. Hard for you to accept I'm sure.

I really don't care how you label me. Won't change one thing about me or make me see things any different. I thought you were more even keeled and able to have adult conversations and discuss with those of opposing views. YOu're not. You're more like those you don't like than you think you are.

How was this not an adult convo? Because I think you're firmly planted on one end of the spectrum, not only as far as Cal is concerned, but what your beliefs and needs are for the program?

I thought that was a pretty civil discussion. Me calling you "fringe".. it's not like I'm saying immature things or calling you names.

I've been pretty fluid this whole year, if I do say so. I am in Cal's camp, but I've said that can change quick. I just wasn't going to jump off the ship, because what, IMO, was an isolated bad season.

I guess I mis-interpeted your intent. My mistake.

I consider a bad season the '13 season. The NIT season. This season was way beyond bad in so many areas. I just see it as a culmination of the way things have been going since '15.

'16 was a mediocre season. '18 was that as well. Both were borderline below mediocre imo. Foretelling of the roster issues that are still continuing.

I have been a Cal defender. Just not one anymore. I see things and hear things that I do not like or will support. Regardless who the coach is for UK.

The stuff toward fans is a big one. The arrogance when you're sitting on a historical bad season is a bad look. The politics stuff is absurd and should have never been brought into play. does nothing but cause division. He knew but didn't stop it.

Cal isn’t going anywhere. Leaving after a season like this would seem cowardly and admitting he’s got no clue how to right the ship. He’s always preaching toughness and grinding it out. Let’s see him practice what he preaches.

I do not think it as ludicrous as you and others might think. Sallis is just one player but most of all the top guys play against and with each other in AAU and HS events on a regular basis. Friendships are made , strong friendships. They talk , text etc on a regular basis. If I were a friend of BJ Boston or Clarke or even Brooks and was made aware of the dislike and conspiracy theories displayed toward our own players and then, actually see it displayed daily on a message board, I might look elsewhere. You and others seem to think that UK is the only place to be. Not so. All of these kids have great schools to choose from. You are one of the worst posters on here. So I think you are stupid to think you are posting in a vacuum.

For the UT job, Cal would demand $11-12 million per year plus a boatload of benefits, including a huge mansion in Austin's millionaire row.
