Offer him a double lifetime contract.
Coach K sure has it.offer him Immortality
Coach K sure has it.
I don't agree with that.I don’t agree with this
Yes. Far and away the wealthiest athletic program in the country.Does Texas have enough money for Cal and Sark?
Yes.you mean this poll? Cal lost 193-73.
Anyone that disagrees with you gets labeled with a derogatory name. You need to get some books on manners or something. Here's the thing, rational people don't limit their assessment to most recent few years. The guy can flat out coach even if the hilljacks don't want to acknowledge it because he doesn't pander to you and make you feel like your opinion matters.
Looking back now, it appears the real winners were UCLA and John Calipari. Of course, he stood to win big either way. But, I seriously doubt UCLA would have come knocking with the supposed $10 million per year offer following a season like UK just went through. And I doubt UK would have offered the "lifetime contract" after this season either. While nobody owes UK anything if Cal leaves, the buyout itself makes it less likely that Cal leaves. Most think this was a terrible contract, and maybe it was, but if the rumor of UCLA offerring Cal 10 mil/yr is true, then we kept him for a lot less. Cal got 8 mil this year (obviously overpaid this year), and is scheduled to get a total of 8.5 mil the next 4 years, then 9 mil for the 4 years after that if he keeps coaching. The buyout the university must pay to fire him is 75% of the remaining money on the contract if he remains the coach. If he elects to step down from coaching after 2024, then he came remain with the university as a special assistant, which would decrease his salary to 1 mil/yr. However, if he steps down to that position, then the buyout moves to 100%, or 1 mil/yr until 2029. Contrary to what I have heard, I can find no where in the contract where Cal would receive anything past 2029, ie 1 mil/yr for life. The contract states that the terms, without being extended end in 2029, regardless of what position he is in.
Now for why the buyout helps UK to retain him. Another school could come after Cal, and offer him big money, but are unlikely to offer that kind of buyout, or guaranteed money. Even a school offering Cal 10 mil/yr, but little buyout is probably not going to lure him away, because if he is fired, he won't get as much money. If the UCLA rumors are true, then the buyout is what was needed to retain Cal without matching the 10 mil/yr. In fact, unless the contract is amended, Cal will never earn 10 mil/yr at UK.
I would welcome him surprising me by taking the job. However, I don't believe he is wanted by anyone that could pay him as well as we have over paid.Wouldn't surprise me if Cal doesn't take it and run.
But as we have learned he won't play the in state talent. Something about taking hearts and so forth.Calipari would likely put together some great teams recruiting the in state Texas talent.

why dont you just go by yourself and we will just keep Cal hereI’ll drive him
We can only hope. Hell I would help pack up his house.Im not worried at all, Cal has the best job in America.

Why?Is he not getting paid enough?
The best job in America deserves the best coach in America and that isn't Cal.Im not worried at all, Cal has the best job in America.
You can take that hilljack comment and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Here's the thing, rational people don't limit their assessment to most recent few years. I suppose I agree. Dep what would you call a successful season for Cal to stay? I say 25-30 wins and no less than elite 8.Pretty close to where I am too.
I'm not at all confident he is willing / able to change and adapt to today's game, but he has long been an innovator (for better or worse) and deserves every chance to do so.
At the same time, if Texas comes along and plucks him away tomorrow, so be it.
As a long time huge Cal fan, I can't believe I just said that, but here we are.
You are correct in your contract info. He does not get $1 million every year for life like many on here post. It’s a 10 year contract that expires in 2029 whether he is still coaching or has moved into the administrative role. While nobody owes UK anything if Cal leaves, the buyout itself makes it less likely that Cal leaves. Most think this was a terrible contract, and maybe it was, but if the rumor of UCLA offerring Cal 10 mil/yr is true, then we kept him for a lot less. I'm looking at the overall picture more than just the W/L record next year.I suppose I agree. Dep what would you call a successful season for Cal to stay? I say 25-30 wins and no less than elite 8.
Some people aren’t thin skinned pansies. You couldn’t pay me enough to deal with some of the fans even though the great fans outnumber the loud, obnoxious and entitled, it still would be to much to take on thinking you have to keep people happy instead of doing what you envision and managing your team.
Twitter- Coach Rumors has Shaka to Marquette- CAL to Texas- Beard to KY.
That is true but if you are at Macy's why would you go to Wal-Mart?Cal has EARNED the right to shop around , it wasnt GIVEN .
Sure Cal is worth it.I agree but I mean... Is Calipari worth a $52 million buyout plus...what? $10-$12 million a year? This Calipari ? The last 6 seasons Calipari?
While you are dissing the fans, you won't ever have to worry about someone trying to pay you enough. So if that is your only worry, you really don't have any worries. You couldn’t pay me enough to deal with some of the fans even though the great fans outnumber the loud, obnoxious and entitled, it still would be to much to take on thinking you have to keep people happy instead of doing what you envision and managing your team.
The bigger question is would Cal's big ego allow him to play second fiddle to football?Less pressure at Texas that's for sure. Football is king, basketball just takes up the space on the sports section until spring football.
