GREAT ACTOR !!! Sad to hear this.
When you lose a Hackman and a Duvall so close together....man. Two of the best that may never be replaced.
So many great movies his whole career. Onevof his last big films was Open Range and one of my favorites with him. Just a truly great actor thru 5 decades!

Man what a bummer. You know its coming along with Clint eventually but I sure hate losing legends. Open Range was phenomenal.
The Apostle was virtuoso writing. Should have won the Oscar that year for best actor, and finished second to Nicholson's forgettable role in As Good As It Gets. Duvall told Jack before the Oscars that he would win because it was "political." Can't forget what he did in Lonesome Dove or Sling Blade either. He was my favorite actor of all time and the only actor I wanted to meet.

Some people call it a sling blade, I call it a Kaiser blade.
Sling Blade and The Apostle were probably as close as you can get to perfect writing, character development, and realism. Incredible films.
Makes me sad that we don't see films (or actors) like this anymore.
