Bevin said in a debate against Conway that he would cheer for UK over UL. Conway said that he would cheer for both.

http://kentuckysportsradio.com/main...say-theyd-cheer-for-kentucky-over-louisville/

Independent Drew Curtis simply said “Kentucky,” while Republican Matt Bevin, who picked Rick Pitino over John Calipari during KSR’s GOP Gubernatorial Debate in May, went the safe route this time around and said the Cats.

“I learned my lesson last time in trying to be diplomatic,” Bevin said. “I’d pick Kentucky.”

There are other reasons why Bevin might like Pitino over Cal in a political setting.... I think Pitino is conservative and of course we can assume Cal is more liberal. And frankly we have more than a few of our own Stockholm Syndrome fans who still love Pitino.

Personally I do not think Bevin is a sports fan enough to care one way or another.

You think Cal is liberal? I know a ton of Catholic people and not a single one of them is liberal. Just saying.

When it comes the Louisville Cardinals, i don't even bother to wonder what is going on there anymore. That school has turned into such a joke. If you were a rival fan of ul, i don't know if you could do a better job at parody than the cards continue to do year after year. It's gold. I don't even know if they have a sport at this moment that something shady hasn't or isn't going on. After everything Rick put the school through for them to stick with him as headcoach tells me all i need to know about UL and their future.

I know several tons who are not.

I remember when Pitino introduced Bill Clinton during a stump speech in 1996 and people came unglued. If he is conservative, it's come with his hair plugs.

So what can we expect moving toward?

I'm always under the impression in the end nothing is going to happen really.

Pitino is definitely not a Conservative.

I've heard him say things over the recent past that makes me think he is. "Dog whistle" things. But certainly as a coach who coaches primarily african americans...he couldn't be a fire breathing right-winger. Recruiting already is bad. No way of knowing but I think he is more to the right than Cal.

Not aware of the legality of this move - I assume the entire Board serves at the pleasure and discretion of the governor, and that he can fie them all at once if he decides to do so. Still, knowing the egos typically present on this kind of board - and especially given the politicized nature/persona of the Bevin administration to date - won't surprise me in the least if some of these board members threaten legal action. Even if it's likely fruitless....
The dreaded self-quote. But WDRB has an answer, or at least a hint - this move is likely to encounter legal challenge:

"The move immediately raised legal questions. Under Kentucky law, the board must have 17 members appointed by the governor -- in contrast with the 10 that would be installed under the executive order.

State law also says board members can be removed "by the Governor for cause" after being given a hearing with an attorney before the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.

Terry Sebastian, a spokesman for Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear, said Friday morning that Beshear won't have a comment at this time because "we haven’t seen any of the information."

But former Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, whom Bevin beat in the governor's race last November, told WDRB he believes Bevin "is on shaky legal ground. By executive order, a governor cannot change what’s in the statute."

Conway said boards of trustees are appointed under state law and "governors can do executive orders, but those orders cannot trump state law."

Louisville attorney Joe Dunman told WDRB News the Bevin's plan to "reduce the U of L board of trustees from 20 to 13 members appears to conflict with state law."

The Trustees were supposed to make an announcement at 2:30 - haven't read anything yet, my guess is they'll challenge it.

So, is Ramsey still a part of the UofL Foundation?
I see that Emily Bingham and Craig Greenberg, two current trustees, did meet with the press today. Here's the last quote Greenberg gave - so I assume the answer to your question is yes.

"If Gov. Bevin shares these goals, tomorrow he should also demand reform of the board of directors of the University of Louisville foundation and ensure that it too also has a new president. Without a new team and a new level of transparency at the foundation, the governor's actions today are for naught."

Jurich deserves a standing ovation for this...

I mean all that has gone down from the cheerleader, to Hurtt and his past with acquiring talent, to a brothel being run out of a dorm...and he comes out unscathed...wow...he may be crooked, but he is masterfully crooked...

whenever anything goes down with an athletics program the coach and athletic admin are always scrutinized at least, if not punished...just look at baylor right now...and in the past USC, Penn St, Miami, etc...

but some how in the age of everything little thing being scrutinized the UL mess overall is a non issue...it had it's little run but nothing came of it...

in the age of feminism and female empowerment and sticking up for the mistreatment of females on campus no one seems to be interested in women being passed around like a peace pipe by a major college sports program...

of all the mouth pieces espn has who like to crusade for issues...no one picked up the banner and relentlessly rallied against this?

Briles is held responsible for Baylor players beating women, but T and P are not responsible for UL's shennanigans?

no doubt this was the plan all along and TJ had his hand in orchestrating it...this was the deal made with the NCAA...Ramsey and some board members fall on the sword, he and P stay with out major consequences...

Well done Tommy boy, well done...

Thanks. Interesting.

To me, the BOT being cleaned out is only worth applauding if it was done with the belief that it was complicit in the illegal activities of the Foundation or the Athletic Department. Whether that be directly involved or showing negligence in protecting the University from this behavior.

Also, as sports fans, one interesting element to look for is whether or not this new President ends the decades long practice of their football program taking in sketchy characters who have been booted from other programs.

I think if they were pinned down by the media, both coaches would say they are Libs. Being a conservative would not play well with recruits since everyone knows we are all racists gun toting homophobes.

But I really could not care less. Just coach and win games. That's what they are paid to do. And that's what Cal does well.

And you can count on the Beshears to file something and go nuts over this. Don't really care what pretty boy Conway thinks since he was too weak to even beat Bevin to begin with.

Could also be that they simply are liberals. Regardless, there is a reason why neither want any parts of being out as supportive of either ideology.

Conway might be a jackass, but the law is the law and I don't think strength nor weakness has anything to do with interpreting what is actually legal.

I wonder if Louisville fans will admit just how corrupt their University is now when they spout that most profitable bull. So damn profitable the Government had to fire your board of trustees and your president.
If you're looking for any kind of change in their mindset or the mindless babbling that is typical of their rantings, whether they be spoken or written, I can assure you that hell will truly freeze over first then UNC will be held accountable shortly thereafter; in other words, it ain't happening!

Uh wut?
Are you saying a staunch conservatives have a dislike for athletes of color? If that's what you're saying and what you really think then, it might be single most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. The inference that conservatives either dislike or can't have any affinity for people of color sounds like something straight off of a liberal talking points memo.

Actually, it sounds straight out of the current Republican Presidential nominee's talking points memo.

In all seriousness, the entire point Lecter was making is that there aren't many African Americans who are Republican.

I think Cal and Pitino are probably middle of the road. They both make millions, and work their butts off to do so. That tends to make people conservative. On the other hand, they both have to deal with young people on a regular basis, which makes people liberal. Look at John Wooden, who was once described as "so square he's divisible by four", and yet he was very supportive of his players being active in the 60s protest culture.

And Gov. Bevin is a graduate of Washington and Lee. A fantastic university academically. He is not wrapped up into UofL athletics. UK athletics for that matter. Gov. Bevin intends a new start that positions UofL to be an academic institution, not at the expense of its reputation tarnishing by athletics.
You are a good poster, but Bevin will do whatever the people who paid his campaign expenses tell him to do.

Don't confuse that ******* as Republican or Conservative. Most of us don't claim him as either. Caused me to leave the party after 40 years, but I digress.
