Kong why didn’t you start the post, I hate Matt Rhule or any coach that doesn’t meet your approval, just a reminder you wanted Fred fired two or three years ago

TL;DR "Old man yells at clouds to get off his lawn"

I’ll be honest — I’ve completely changed my mind on NIL.

At first it felt like something that could help Nebraska compete again. Instead, it just turned into the same thing as always — the biggest programs spending more, and now we’re paying more for basically the same results.

What surprised me more is how much it’s changed the feel of college football. I always preferred it over the NFL because of the traditions, continuity, and connection to the program. Now it feels like a minor league version of pro football — constant turnover, bidding wars, no real attachment to players.

Then you add in TV networks and conferences clearly prioritizing money over the fan experience — weird kickoff times, nonstop realignment — and the product just feels worse.

And the rules? They seem to change constantly, and half the time they’re applied inconsistently. It’s getting harder to even follow what’s going on.

Even things like gambling becoming more visible around the sport just add to that feeling that everything is getting more commercialized. It’s probably inevitable, but it does change how the whole thing feels as a fan.

Maybe this is just the direction of the sport, but for me it’s losing what made it special. I’m honestly just a lot less interested than I used to be.

NIL has made "those programs" totally lame.

Bama is struggling to even make a 12 team playoff now.
Clemson? Lame
Miami could not do anything for the last 15 years and now did something.
TT???
Tulane???

NIL has taken away everything we bitched about in the past...The only problem now is the NU is not playing the LEGAL game.

How has your philosophy changed or what could you have addressed earlier to get results? (question something to that effect).

MR: when I got here I could have just told all the players to leave and started over with a new roster. I would never do that but it would have been faster - but Nebraskans are passionate about it being done the right way.

MR: I could have told everyone the program was the absolute bottom in all areas that we came into … I could have said that but I didn’t (has been saying this since year 3 didn’t work out).

MR: Everyone always talks about Matt Rhule year 3, year 3, I mean I’ve never said that (he has) but everyone else did.

This was a tough interview to get through.

NIL talk is getting so old…

MR: Why can’t we be number 1 in NIL and resources, we have a rich state and a lot of money flowing through. Nebraska was first for turf, Jumbotrons, training tables and science, why can’t we be first in NIL and be the innovators?

I haven’t developed anyone … I’ve turned over my staff 2-3 times in 3 years … I can’t beat Iowa or Minnesota … why are you not giving me all of your hard-earned money … you are the problem, rich Nebraska guy.

Feels pretty good to have a head football coach who is the envy of all programs so much so that they are willing to add millions of dollars to their NIL budgets just to try to keep up with him.

Feels a lot like all the underrated recruits that, once Rhule offers them, they start getting tons more offers and stars added because he's such an elite talent evaluator.

And I'm so glad he started that statement reiterating that he always tells the truth and doesn't believe in coach speak. Just makes me feel even better all the way around to know what he's saying is fact.

Would love Vigen at NU. But history says the admin will have there thumb up there *** keeps Rhule one more year and someone else snatches Vigen him up.
Ferentz retires after this year, we keep proven LOSER and moron Rhule, Iowa hires Vigen, improves immediately and wins the Big Ten title in his 2nd year. You all know this is coming lol

LOL Holy cope. Just quit making excuses and accept that Matt Rhule is an average to bad coach. His record spells that out perfectly.

Yeah I agree I see that playing out exactly like that. Iowa urges KKK to move in and retire and snatch Vigen while NU worthless admin continues to play blind checkers

The NIL thing is an excuse. And a poor one at that. IF his staff would have or could have either recruited a LOT better or been a LOT better at developing talent ( or both ) then you would not need to sign 17 portal guys. You could take what you have and load up on 4-6 TOP players and be all set. The mere fact that you need that many portal adds shows you exactly where the issues are. Until this is fixed, nothing gets better.

And I still do not think there is any way Dannen fires Ruhle with a 50+ million dollar buyout after this next season, putting even more light on the idiotic extension he offered Matt. Those two are joined at the hip now.

There’s no way I’d buy Rhule out. Ride it out. Don’t be paying for two or three coaches at the same time. Nebraska has thrown good money after bad for a long time. We haven’t been competitive for a long time. Indiana wasnt competitive for a long time. Then they hit the lottery. When Rhule is one and done, the AD needs to find a new coach. Pay him the big money, but don’t hamstring everything because you are still paying the ex coach big money.

It was neat to see the tournament run but we were basically .500 the last 1/3 of the season. Only made the sweet 16, lost to Iowa, and lost partially because coach couldn't get 5 guys on the court in crunch time. The "special" nature of the season is mostly to do with us being the worst program in the history of the NCAA. So, don't take a victory dance because we barely made the top 20. Fred should have been fired, but there is a probability that in any one season, with a lot of experience, stability that a team will play a soft schedule, go 20-0, and then ride that to a decent seed, which gives favorable matchups in the first few rounds. But all of those teams fall back to earth eventually.

Nebraska gets plenty of $$$ from the B1G.
That's why they joined the conference.

When boosters have had enough, MR is toast. Just hasn't happened yet.

I'd like to see Holgorsen get half a season as HC.

He has always been a much better coach than Rhule

We're not at a place to make fun of who they might hypothetically hire since they have owned us for a decade.

They'll probably hire Polasek who isn't far behind Vigen and would be a great hire for them.

We better hope they're not smart enough to do that

Rich people got rich and stay rich because they value money and do not want to send it into a loser program. They know a crap investment when they see one. They can also see through the bullsh$t lies of a snake oil salesman. Sorry Matt but unless you manage to put a quality product on the field this year you are toast. Who even listens to him anymore?
Being rich and becoming rich are two different things. There are WAY too many people with WAY too much money. There are billions of dollars of private money being wasted every year to win college football games, money that is donated with no promise of % return. Giving millions to win a few more football games is literally the worst investment possible but big donor after big donor does it because they are already rich and far beyond going poor.

I wonder how Ravi and Damon will defend this. Damon will feed listeners a word casserole mixed with "you don't understand this like I do" and "Coach Rhule and I understand this like no other". Ravi will use his YMCA coaching experience as his soapbox.
These guys are trying all the can to make hype around a pile of 💩. Without the hype their ratings drop. To stupid to see they will lose credibility when Matt’s shown the door.

Exactly. So many people don't understand this because they can't fathom what it's like to have that kind of wealth. Let's just use the Mark Cuban with Indiana situation that's been discussed in another thread...

Undisclosed actual amounts, but for hypothetical reasons, let's say that we spent $20M on total NIL and Cuban spent that just on his own (to add to their normal NIL bringing their total much higher than ours). Mark Cuban's current net worth is reported to be $6B. For him to donate $20M, here's what that looks like to a regular schlub...

Your net worth = $500,000 ------ Equivalent donation = $1,666.66

This is sad and I hope not true but his body of work at Nebraska makes a strong case for it. This will be a make or break year for a lot of people - Dana included.
Anyone who’s agreed to work or play for Rhule has sucked with very few exceptions

Trae Taylor is going to suck, too. Kid’s a weirdo.

We need a completely fresh start. Yesterday.

I am shocked it even came out to 1,666. But it does a great job showing just how rich some people are!

He's too online at the minimum, getting into arguments with internet randos and Wilson Dittman.
