I’m glad we lost because we deserved to lose. Pike is a total hypocrite too about “earning minutes”. The coaching was putrid
I’m giving credit and I’m celebrating, but it proves my point even more that we rolled out that crap in all those early games when we are obviously capable of so much more
How can you celebrate? Beyond being a fair weather fan, you’re still doubling down on your nonsense. Incapable of admitting what an absolute moron (not to mention awful supporter of RU athletics) you are. Admit it - you’re the embarrassment - you and the rest of the know nothing loudmouths who want bury our coach. That fact you think this proves your point only shows how delusional you are. 2020 Made the tourney. 2021 Made the tourney. 2022 Beat the number one team. But yeah, he’s the embarrassment.

I do think it’s fair to say Pike is feeling some heat/weight of expectations - I don’t recall seeing him so animated on the sideline as I did last night.

The calls for his head have been ridiculous. He’s earned a down year and even with a struggling team now showed his crew could knock off a number one.

I look forward to pre-season previews from coaches, and I’m going to have a hard time paying attention to anything Pike says going into future seasons (Purdue win or not, the front court is a major area of concern and was promoted pre-season as a big time strength). However- Just because I’m disappointed that I won’t look forward to season previews from Pike anymore, doesn’t mean I’ve changed my opinion of him as a coach. Not a Pike hater - very happy with him leading the charge at RU over all.

You’re the moron who said Pike was an embarrassment. How would you define fair weather fan? Let me try - someone who knows nothing about basketball X’s and O’s nor the inner workings of a team calls the most successful coach of the last 40 years an embarrassment 6 games removed from the round of 32. Calls for his firing. Then thinks that beating the number one team only further proves his point. You’re either a fair weather fan, or a mental defective. Either way works for me, you absolute embarrassment.

Please quote the message in any thread where I called for his firing. I’ll wait. Idiots like you amuse me. Lmao

You said, moron, and I quote “He can survive having a bad team, but embarrassment like this is not acceptable.” What did you mean if not that he should go? And no matter how many “lols” or “lmao” you write like a 12 year old girl, you aren’t amused - you know you’re hurt that you’ve been shown, in short order, what an absolute moron and awful fan you are.

I never said that. Please go ahead and use the quote feature tool where I said that. You need to release all that anger and the name calling, it isn’t healthy.

Disappointing start? Yes. Embarrassment? Not even close. If he makes the tournament 7 out of the next 10 years will you be happy? I'll sign up for that right now. Sometimes you swing and miss on recruits/filling out a roster and sometimes you hit it on the money. It's unrealistic to think we'll be a tournament team every year. I still think the team is experienced enough to be a bubble team and I'll let the season play out and let the coaches figure out how to fix this.
After last night's win, I still think my original thoughts were accurate. He's the right man for the job that made a mistake in the lack of a 2nd big behind Cliff this year. If we have that big, we're probably sitting at 8-1. With that being said, he did go after Harrar who is averaging 10/10 at Penn St., and had to settle for Agee. Adding a player like Woolfolk will give the possibility of a bigger lineup as a traditional 4 + the Braden Moore talk means they understand how important it is to bring in another 6'10+ kid who is a true Center. Let the process play out and whether it is another tournament, NIT, or nothing, Pike deserves all the support heading into next year. Is he exempt from warranted criticism? No. He definitely has to improve in certain areas, but to call for his head after proving you can win in Piscataway for the first time in 30 years means we have to be patient on his down years because we know better years are ahead.

Can someone learn at the age of 54? I hope Pike could learn how to recruit and coach offense someday.

Yes this is very true but it’s just frustrating because if he could’ve recruited his *** off with those two big years he wouldn’t even be in this tough situation.

This comment is so stupid that it does not deserve a response but I will.

I am curious to know what you said after the Purdue, Michigan, and Iowa games about Pikiell.

My guess is that you are a hypocrite too.

As a Rutgers fan I have never ever said "I'm glad we lost".

Do you still want Coach Jordan back. This way you could say "we lost" all the time and not have to wish for it.

It's hilarious to me that posters here call the Hall a low major when Rutgers has been literally a dumpster fire for decades. Some here have an over inflated image of their team and just are plain delusional. Let me get the salt shaker for you.

Pike did not pursue kids hard enough and now the teams success is screwed. Back to bottom feeder Rutgers. The future is bleak
Seton Hall will always be beneath us.

If you truely had any self conviction for calling Pike an "embarassment" you would bump this thread after both wins or losses.

Pretty true at this point. Can't blow outa depleted Minny team

Maybe my standard of calling someone an "embarassment" is old school. I generally reserve that classification for people who intentionally steal, lie and cheat etc. To me its ok to criticize Pike for his decisions and strategies etc........but really can't relate to anyone calling anyone an "embarassment" just because coaching decisions might not have worked out or players did not hit shots etc. .

His decisions and strategies worked against Iowa and Purdue.

I mean even if you allow just really bad coaching to be an "embarrassment"... we are 11-7 (5-3). It's not where we hoped to be but "embarrassment" is just ludicrously overblown.

Bannon, Rice, Hill and Eddie all embarrassed us at certain points - Pike makes me proud. Anybody against him has zero perspective as a Rutgers fan, and cannot be taken seriously.

He certainly is a stand up guy and great representative of the school. He’s at the top of that group in this respect. He’s certainly not an embarrassment but he’s probably middle of this pack as a game coach (Hill and Eddie were worse) and near the bottom as a recruiter, however.

Can any of you people who make these asinine statements explain how if he is (1) near the bottom as a recruiter AND (2) in the middle as a gameday coach that he has far better results than any of them?

Sure.
1. Recruiting. He started out strong and has a knack for under the radar guys. His team has made the tournament and he failed to capitalize on it by bringing in his three weakest classes in a row. He is in arguably the best conference but can’t seem to leverage it. His top recruit, a four star either isn’t all that or he has no idea what to do with him. Our last two classes including next years are ranked No higher than 12th in the B1G. Next years class is an absolute joke so far. He did nothing n the portal except land a kid who fell into his lap and he isnt living up to expectations either.

2. Coaching….just yesterday alone and not even mentioning the ridiculous OOC losses. He took his self proclaimed best team he ever had and lost to a team without three on their top players playing largely because he can’t motivate them. We Lost this game in the first 5 minutes in my opinion and he let them continue without any accountability. We had arguably 7 of the best 8 players that played yesterday and still lost. He never even tried to change the tempo and we were dumbfounded yet again against a zone. I’m not sure if we ever broke out one of our 27 out of bounds plays since we were lucky to even inbound the ball on many occasions. Also, the 2nd half of his “best center tandom by far”, doesn’t even play because he greatly misjudged his talent.

as far as his getting to the tournament, he capitalized on his early recruiting success which no longer exists.

You can't possibly agree with all of that, especially the first sentence about being glad we lost, can you? I agree Pike didn't coach well tonight (Caleb with way too many minutes and not sitting Cliff for a few after his 3rd foul), but c'mon, he had 2 NCAA teams in a row after 30 years of nada. I think he should get just a little slack, even if we take a step back this year, which it looks like we will.

I just find it absolutely ******* absurd to be honest. If you had given people the chance, in April 2016, to sign up for two tournament teams in 2019/20 and 2020/21 and a down year in 2021/22 where we are still above .500 in conference at the end of January there would’ve been a ******* stampede to grab the pen. People would’ve been getting trampled out there like there is a particularly good Black Friday sale at Walmart.

Forget tournaments, we went 15 years without a winning record and literally just watched our football program implode after losing a coach who “couldn’t get us to the next level.” I’m not going back to watching either of those play out again.
