Unlike elite BB schools like duke ,NC, Kentucky etc. who always get 5 star recruits. Recruiting is tricky. A lot has to do with luck and getting 3 star recruits and hope they get better and you can coach them up . Fortunately unlike football if you can get 1 or 2 players a yr. you can build a solid program . New big practice facilities are a plus but who knows what goes on in a 17/18 yr. old kids mind. Plus you have to deal with parents ,AAU coaches and handlers . Its a brutal process if your not a elite BB school .
See that’s the thing. A REaLLY good coach would know what he is up against and how he can combat the deficiencies created in This world.
If you don’t have the talent to compete find an alternative style to be as competitive as possible. STOP pretending you have the talent and running the same schemes thinking the talent would lead them to the same results.
I think Pike is a bit stubborn in making adjustments whether that’s players or schemes

Why does SHU consistently outrecruit us even when we're better? I truly do not get it. No offense to them but it's a commuter school with poor academics and an ugly campus. Smh
Seton Hall has the advantage for talent because they can recruit better basketball players who are also thugs and violent, dumb, and don’t take school seriously. Rutgers cannot do that obviously because the school part is taken seriously. Seton Hall gets hype every preseason and starts the year off strong often because of this raw talent they get. But arrests, team infighting, players disrespect coach, etc. takes its toll as the year goes on and is part of the reason why they can never make it past the first round of the NCAA tournament. It’s the risk you take

Two bs lines from coach:

"I want under-recruited kids that will embrace the challenge " Wrong-It is not what you "want," mabe it's what you can get . I want highly recruited and talented kids who embrace the challenge."

"I love wins where you really have to grind it out" Not with the opposition we've been playing-, you don't. You like what I likeI:20 pt halftime and 30 pointers for the game. Not OTers against , , , what was that school gain?

It’s not complicated. Recruiting is a weak point for Pike. But he’s coached his way through it so far by churning out hard defending and rebounding teams. It could go a few ways from here. So let’s see. Calling him an embarrassment is childish and makes you look, frankly, like a dummy.

Lol. What a loser mentality. It sure is a reflection of your basketball program. COPE.

we have some of the worst bandwagon fans ever and some of the ones most likely you wouldn't want to share a foxhole
There are posters in this thread and some on this site everyday who pretend to be Rutgers fans, but are actually fans of other schools. Some even use Rutgers references in their names.

Like who, so we know?
I’m curious who these non-Rutgers fans are

So taking stock of the bandwagon fans opinions on this board. Pike can neither recruit nor coach and that we should go back to guys like waters and Bannon.

We don’t have a legitimate back up center to give Cliff a blow or give us minutes when he’s in foul trouble.

We don’t have a low dribble, quick guard with a good handle most D-3 are able to find and have.
Whatever that is, it is.
The fact Jones doesn’t know where to go on offense is weird

I could be way off base, BUT I've got an interesting inquiry, WHO is the leader of the bench or the second team? It is kind of important role which they have shown they don't have through 4 games.

2016-17 Pike had Nigel Johnson, who was there a year, or Mike Williams, 2 year starter, off the bench, started Thiam and EO at points.
2017-18 He started Doucoure and Baker, so there would be experience like Williams, Sa, Doorson off the bench,
2018-19 Mathis, RHJ, 2019-20, 2020-21, there was playing experience of 1 or more years in the program off the bench the last 2 years and why they were so good, with 9 man and 8 man rotations.

Going into 2021-22, Hyatt 0 minutes for Rutgers, Agee 0 minutes for Rutgers, Miller 0 minutes, Nathan 29 minutes at Rutgers, Reiber 76, Palmquist 60, Mag 70, Jones 11.
8 players, 247 minutes in a Rutgers uniform

It goes against everything he did in the first 5 years as a coach here, he started enough freshman to minimize the damage between 1st and 2nd by putting more experience with less inexperience for the 1st and 2nd teams. This year was a big imbalanced between starters and bench. It is also why I was calling in June or July when we finalized our 13, one the experienced 5 needed to come off the bench as a Rutgers "leader" of the bench or 2nd team. Hyatt and Agee have experience but not Rutgers bench experience, the other 6 players are all still too young and potentially talented. It has to start against Lafayette to make the corrections now.

Got it. So sounds like you agree with the OP and the bandwagon fans here who are saying Pike is an embarrassment and needs to go.

It’s time……

What do people think about the teaching of critical race theory in public schools?
Hey Greene you're better than this! Knock off the politics. Oh and btw, CRT is NOT taught ANYWHERE!!!! It was a theory conceived by law school scholars.

Keep it to basketball please.

a rutgers coach with no scandals and an NCAA tournament appearance is embarrassing because of one road loss to depaul? that’s crazy thinking
It’s F’d in the head. I want a statue of Pike right near the entrance to the RAC (sorry Jersey Mike)

Disappointing start? Yes. Embarrassment? Not even close. If he makes the tournament 7 out of the next 10 years will you be happy? I'll sign up for that right now. Sometimes you swing and miss on recruits/filling out a roster and sometimes you hit it on the money. It's unrealistic to think we'll be a tournament team every year. I still think the team is experienced enough to be a bubble team and I'll let the season play out and let the coaches figure out how to fix this.

A. Talking about firing Pike is ludicrous at stage.
B. It is not ludicrous to question recruiting and recognizing that in a few years it could put Pike in a bad position.
C. It is also not ludicrous to suggest that improvements need to be diagnosed in this area. Is Pike a bad closer? Are the assistants unable to get us in the door? What is it?

And we got to two NCAA tourneys
I know the bar was buried here and people will think pointing to that when comparing it to eddie jordan is like winning a natty. Making the first weekend of the ncaa tourney should be an expectation at this point, not an accomplishment. Again, high floor, super low ceiling. Defense doesnt win championships

I wish we had made the Sweet 16 last year...it would have at least silenced idiotic threads like this.
Making it to the sweet 16 with our draw and several elite level players was doable, could have done elite 8 for that matter
