The only real starters by then were Gilliam, Hodges, the Duke and Podres -- the bulk of the Brooklyn stars and starters got old in the mid 50s. The '59 champions was a mix but was an LA team.

I would love to get to Dodger Stadium for a game. However I think my grandmother would haunt me. She probably went to her grave pissed that they moved from Brooklyn.

Sure they are. Seen around the country. In case you haven't noticed there is a lot more "networks" these days. The days of the big three have been over for years.

If you take that up to and including 1930, the Athletics and Red Sox each had 5 World Series titles (A's 1929 and 1930). Was another 42 years before either team won again (A's 72, 73, 74 and 89) and of course the sox didn't win again until 2004 (2007 & 2013). So, with a win this year, the sox can tie the A's at 9 titles.
Braves are the only team to win titles in 3 cities: Boston 1914, Milwaukee 1957 and Atlanta 1995. Of course, the only other team to be in 3 cities is Oakland.

At least the Series games start at 8; the starting time used to be 8:37. The 8 time is the earliest that the networks can do it, because 7-7:30 belongs to the stations, and the network wants a half-hour intro show. I'd much prefer a daytime World Series both so I can see it and because the late October weather is generally much better in the day.

Its about the bottom line.

MLB wants the most money from broadcast rights to the series. To get that they give control of times to the winning bidder... essentially. And the networks want the biggest audiences with the most lucrative ad times... PRIMETIME.

End result: Where kids used to get out of school to watch/listen to games.. or even listened to radio of the games while IN school... today, the games are at night and no one cares.. relatively speaking.

At best you get a wide audience of people asking "who won last night?" when they get to work.

The late finish didn't help TV numbers:

"Despite high expectations, World Series Game 1 ratings posted a slight decline in the metered markets.

Tuesday’s Dodgers-Red Sox World Series Game 1 delivered a 10.0 overnight rating on FOX, down 2% from Astros-Dodgers last year (10.2) and down 21% from Cubs-Indians in 2016 (12.6).

The 10.0 is the lowest for Game 1 of the World Series in four years, since Giants-Royals in 2014 (8.0).

Compared to the last time the Red Sox were in the World Series, against St. Louis in 2013, overnights increased 6% from a 9.4.

...

However, there are indications that the game’s late finish negatively impacted the numbers. From 8-11 PM, Game 1 overnights were on par with last year at a 10.2. The tune-out as the game lingered past Midnight pulled the numbers downward.

Game 1 drew a 35.1 rating in Boston, down 12% from 2013 (39.7). The Red Sox’ World Series openers in 2004 and 2007 both topped a 50 rating in the market. In Los Angeles, Game 1 had a 24.8 — up 2% from a 24.2 last year."

So the networks want the biggest audience and no one cares. Looks like someone has made a miscalculation. That, or we are guilty of East Coast bias (a phenomenon of which I am ordinarily a big fan).

maybe Fox could shorten the intro show so that the game can start earlier. Keep in mind that even an 8 p.m. start means it is still light in Los Angeles when the game starts, so the pitchers are at an advantage as shadows spread over the field.

It's all about advertising money. When can they sell the ads for the most money. If MLB gave a damn they could dictate exactly when then games would be played and how much advertising would be aired. The Masters has done it for years. But MLB wants nothing but the most money it can possibly get. This is MLB's doing.

I remember when I was a kid, the Yankees played the San Francisco Giants in the 1962 World Series. There was actually talk of starting the S.F. games at 11 a.m. local time so that they would appear at 2 p.m. on the East Coast. This kind of manipulation has been going on for a long time -- which doesn't mean it's good!

Isn't it horrible when teams buy their way into a World Series?What was the old line I'd hear from so many Yankee fans," Who cares how much George spends, as long as we win,you Mets fans are just jealous your owner won't spend".

Advertisers want the 18-49 demographic. They don't care if kids watch. Nor do they care about the future of the sport. If people stop watching baseball, they'll just channel their dollars elsewhere.

Yes. And it feels so good to say that line and prove you wrong. As a Met fan you defend the highest bankroll in baseball because they aren't the Yankees. But you are still stuck with the worst ownership in baseball because they are cheap. Just like Rutgers.
Your only enjoyment is trying to mock the best sports franchise in the world.

Off off topic. Ian Kinzler and Jack White best buds. White looks like a fish out of water in the stands but he showed up to support his buddy. Jack is a 1 man army.

So are you saying that it's OK when the Yankees spend a ton and win, but not when others do? Was there ever a time when the YANKEES WERE FAR AND AWAY THE HIGHEST SPENDING TEAM IN BASEBALL?

I was just reacting to this,I don't think their "little guys", I know they spend a lot also, but do find it extremely funny that a Yankee fan would belittle their
accomplishment based on payroll, you guys, of all fans,lmao!!!

JD will be in right. JBJ in center. Mookie at 2nd or JBJ out and Mookie in center. But I think they really want JBJ’s glove in center, so Betts plays 2nd. He played 2nd up until he got to the majors.

Being an actual Red Sox fan, having the MLB package and watching probably 130+
Red Sox games this year, I would be stunned if Betts plays 2nd base. I do know that
he is a 2nd baseman by trade. In the interleague games I watched this year, Benintendi
who is a center fielder by trade, moved over to center field, Betts stayed in right and JD
played left field.

Yankees had highest payroll in baseball 15 of the last 20 years.

Before this year, the last time red sox had highest payroll in baseball was around 1991-1993.

In LA, I believe Mookie Betts will be at 2nd base, and jd Martinez in right field. Maybe not every game but probably game 3 at least.

Sox fan too with the MLB package and Betts has already played 2nd base this year. I’m not a big fan of putting Betts at 2nd base but JBJ in center is really important and JDs bat is critical and Beni should definitely start against the RH Buehler. It’s definitely a tough decision for Cora but he seems to be making all the right decisions. Will be interesting to see what he does in game 3

But Whitebus belittled them by saying they bought themselves a World Series this season, but would defend the Yankees to the hilt if someone said that about the Yankees, I don't get the blindness to it.
