I seriously doubt we ever had a chance. Isn't his father a doctor with the Mayo Clinic? I doubt seriously he has dreams of being a one and done and certainly he does not have to fight generational poverty. Duke would be the perfect school for him. He will play for them multiple years and there will not be any pressure to leave early.

Another factor is the fact Duke and their fans are much more accepting of white players. A white player at UK will be ridiculed by a portion of the fan base and compared to Rex Chapman. Who needs that?

Really the race card:flush:

think Skal could have been one but for some reason, he was made to be a back to the basket player here, think thats why were missing on so many of the top bigs lately, in todays game most want to play facing the basket.
Cal had just succeeded in toughening AD and NN up and thought he could do the same with Skal, he was just too soft.

Bigs are stepping out more now though because of the rules more than any other reason. You can't get touched on the perimeter and you can get shoved with both hands on the block.

I wish that Cal had been able to take that visit! People who say he couldn't play at UK because he is weak, do you think he has to stay "weak". We can always use a player who can shoot the ball, from anywhere on the floor, which it appears Hurt can. All EJ needs is playing time to become a very valuable player on next year's team. But having Hurt along with Sestina would have made practices more competitive at that position. Even if we don't get any more players we will still have a very good team next season.

Can the posters who get into a pissing contest about betting quite taking up so much space on the board just quite. No one cares about that. Most of us just want to talk basketball and recruiting. And can use names instead of initials.

Yep. And the one where you said "winning means nothing if you don't get paid."

And you talked about me being "disgruntled "? Bro, he seem to be really mad. First off, Hurt's dad canceled the visit, not Cal. Those are extenuating circumstances. No different than Cal not making the visit because his car broke down on the way. Kinda throws a wrench in the bet dont ya think? Well, you probably dont think so but any halfway logical person would. Still doesnt change the fact that you were wrong.

What am I disgruntled about? I just want to collect my winnings from our bet you seem to be avoiding now. Where is my $1,500?

No, the bet was thay Cal would meet with Hurt again before his decision. There were no circumstances regarding if he missed it. It was straight up he would either meet him or he wouldn't. When you bet sports the bookies don't nulify because a player gets hurt-fouled out-has a bad game. If you net horses they don't give you your money back because the horse breaks down. You bet, you lost. Now you owe me $1,500. Do you have the integrity and honor to pay up? Doubtful.

I never said Cal cancelled it, but I did tell you we stopped we recruiting him 2 weeks ago, which was true. This visit was cancelled when Hurt's dad told Cal his son had given his verbal to Duke. That is 100% true. After Hurt announces, you will find this to be accurate when he outlines his process and how it played out.

What was I wrong about?

First off, you're not a bookie. Second, if the horse is scratched, you cant bet it or you get your money back. If a fighter gets hurt and cant fight, you get your money back. Its called extenuating circumstances. Using the example of a horse falling during the race is ridiculous. Hurt's father canceling the visit is just that. If Cal would've canceled, you would have a complaint.

You said that we were not recruiting him. Why did Cal schedule a visit with him if we were not recruiting him? Can you explain that?

I said we weren't recruiting him for the last 2 weeks, it had been about 9 - 10 days at the time I first posted it. And we haven't been. The visit was schedule beforehand.

Hurt made a silent verbal to Duke after learning Jones was coming back. The was decided a couple of days before Jones posted the cryptic tweet about coming back with a ? at the end. Jones and Hurt are close, Duke has three forwards leaving; it made sense to go there.

The Hurts were honest with UK and Cal and that is how it ended. That same weekend Hurt's decision date became public. The meeting was decided against then, not yesterday. That is why I was so confident in betting you.

So, where is my money? Can you explain that?

Never claimed to be.

If the horse enters the gate you don't get a refund. Once the bet is made you're stuck with it. You made a bet, now you are stuck with. If the jockey falls off, do you get a refund? If the horse dies, do you get a refund? If the horse just decides to stop do you get a refund? If the horse gets blocked out by other horses, do you get a refund? If the horse gets bumped out of the starting gate, do you get a refund? If you don't like the outcome, do you get a refund.

If the fighter gets hurt during the fight you don't get a refund. If the fight never takes place then the bet can't technically be made or honored. You're not making an if/or bet. Same with this. It wasn't an agreement of who cancels or when. Your literal bet was
How much you want to bet that Cal goes and visits Hurt before his decision?
Followed by
Ok so, we are on for a G, right? You said a grand, right? Ill go $1500 if you are that confident. We can do Venmo or Paypal, your choice.

To which I agreed and said.
How about $2,000? I like easy money.

Since you seem to know what to do, go ahead and set something up on whichever site you prefer. Send me a link showing you have in fact created and funded it and I will match it.
To which I agreed and told you to setup since you mentioned your preferred methods.

Notice, there are not if/and/or conditions. It's a straight up Cal will meet Hurt before his decision, which clearly he is not. You did not specify who could and could not cancel to appease your bet. You lost. If the meeting happened last minute you would be here claiming victory and wanting your money. I agreed to the bet you made and won fair and square. Now you have to pay up. That is how bets work. We don't change the bet afterwards or renege on it. Are you going to do the honorable thing and show you have integrity? Or will you continue to deploy juvenile tactics and demonstrate for us all that your word and integrity mean nothing?

You trying to say his dad cancelling the visit is what is ridiculous. What does it matter if or why it wad cancelled when the bet was that they would meet before the announcement. Obviously they are not and you lost. Where's my money?

I have answered this like 4 times for you now. This visit was planned a few weeks ago when we were still recruiting him. Those plans changed when he gave his verbal to Duke 2 weeks ago. Explained.

So where is my $1,500? Care to explain that?

Can we somehow land McDaniels?
Not likely. Same reason Hurt is unlikely. Too much talent (not top end) at their respective positions. Sometimes it pays to wait to commit, sometimes it doesn’t. Not to knock the young man, but Sestina was Plan C.

Not sure why this is that big of a deal: Hurt was always a long shot. And he's looking for clear playing time. It makes perfect sense that he's favoring Kansas or Duke..

Guys, we're pretty much all set for next year. It would be hard to add another player that wouldn't negatively affect someone else on the team.

Roll with what we got. Honestly, if I were Cal I'd pull the offer. We know we aren't getting him, stop wasting time on him and don't let him use us for attention.

And I was responding to the person winning a money bet. Winning a money bet doesn't mean much if you don't get paid. Get it.
I know! It was me you were responding to. Yet, you still said "winning only matters if you get paid." There was no limit to betting in your statement, just that winning only matters if you get paid. However, what if the bet isn't a payment?

How much have you had to drink today? I hope something because at least you would have an excuse.

Why do I need to be excused for your inability to properly articulate yourself?

You're in arguments with like 10 people in varying threads having to result to ad hominems attacks because of the same inability. At a certain point you should realize the problem is you.

He's a very good player, but his style of play doesn't mesh with the team Coach Cal has built for next year. Good luck to him unless he's playing Kentucky.

We currently have Montgomery, Whitney, Sestina, and Brooks occupying the 3/4 spots. Why in the world would Hurt or McDaniels come here?

Sestina and Brooks were our Hurt and McDaniels replacements you dummies, how is that hard to see?

Sestina is a nice role player off the bench.People building him up to be as good as RT are in for a big letdown.

Couldn’t disagree more, I actually think he’s going to be every bit as important as Reid Travis was and he’ll bring more to the table than Matthew Hurt would in 1 season. His shooting numbers are undeniable and proven at the college level, so is his size and experience. A senior who averaged 16 & 8 in the Patriot League can average 12 & 6 in the SEC, which would equate to Reid Travis numbers. Only difference is Sestina is going to hit close to 40% of his 3s and close to 85% of his free throws.

All Conference 5th year Seniors are better adds to college basketball teams than fringe Top 10 recruits who are a couple years away from going into their game. I don’t care what league the guy plays in, he’s physically and mentally more prepared to contribute at Kentucky right away over any other freshman still on the board.
