Couldn’t disagree more, I actually think he’s going to be every bit as important as Reid Travis was and he’ll bring more to the table than Matthew Hurt would in 1 season. His shooting numbers are undeniable and proven at the college level, so is his size and experience. A senior who averaged 16 & 8 in the Patriot League can average 12 & 6 in the SEC, which would equate to Reid Travis numbers. Only difference is Sestina is going to hit close to 40% of his 3s and close to 85% of his free throws.

All Conference 5th year Seniors are better adds to college basketball teams than fringe Top 10 recruits who are a couple years away from going into their game. I don’t care what league the guy plays in, he’s physically and mentally more prepared to contribute at Kentucky right away over any other freshman still on the board.

I struggle with buying it.

Travis averaged nearly 20 and 10 in the Pac 12. Then comes to UK and gets you 11 and 7.
Some of that is having to share and having better talent around you.
Some of that is better competition in the SEC that in the PAC 12.

Sestina having success in the Patriot League doesn't impress me as much as 20 and 10 in the PAC 12. He may come in and be fine.

But I don't think he's for sure going to be as good as Reid. I think he comes off the bench behind EJ.

I think Hurt's offensive abilities get him the starting nod if he's here.

I think a lot of people have hit that point where were deciding a recruit we missed on isn't that good anyways.

Reid couldn’t score outside of 5 feet, Sestina’s ability to stretch the floor is going to get him plenty of PT on a team severely lacking in skilled big men.

Some are expecting way too much out of Sestina. He's a nice player but expecting 12 and 6 out of him at UK is way too much.

I don't think that's too much to ask for. Cal wouldn't have brought him in if he has no chance to make a decent impact, which in turn helps Sestina out.

Cal said he wouldn't bring in a transfer just to have him sit on the bench. So evidently Cal believes he will produce at our level.

Well I think Cal pretty much had to get a grad transfer after losing out on all his big men choices.I very much doubt that Sestina was his top target.

Sure, but "plenty of PT" may be 12-15 minutes.

Reid started because he was our best rebounder and one of our best interior defenders.

I actually think Brooks was a better get than Hurt. Brooks is smooth and does everything well. He has a smooth jumper and goes to the rim hard. I can imagine a tough lineup for other teams with Ashton, Maxey, Brooks, Whitney and EJ. I think Brooks will play well above his ranking similar to Shai and Herro.

Brooks has a high motor and great work ethic. He comes in with a chip on his shoulder after being snubbed by the McD's AA game.

Some notable guys who came in ranked around the same place as Brooks (top 25-30-ish) who have played for Cal:

Bledsoe
Lamb
Booker
SGA
Herro

Cal seems to get his money's worth out of guys like this who are very talented, but overlooked and have to work harder to get on the floor.

Why do I need to be excused for your inability to properly articulate yourself?

You're in arguments with like 10 people in varying threads having to result to ad hominems attacks because of the same inability. At a certain point you should realize the problem is you.
Funny

Brooks is highly under rated. He got a low rating because he's the 2nd best player on his high school team. Never mind the best player on his team should be the #1 pick next draft. Brooks to me is another Grant Hill, although not quite the same athleticism Hill had.

I’ll be very surprised.
I’d guess more in the 18-22 range. I do think he’ll be a valuable addition. He can score inside and out, but he’s not terribly athletic or quick, and he’ll have trouble guarding guys who can drive. I’m hoping he can give us something like 9 & 5 a game and anything beyond that would be gravy.

This board is funny , if he came here we would line up proclaiming him as the next Larry Bird ,... he goes to Kansas or Duke and " He's so slow he would never fit in Cal's system " He cant guard here at UK , He flat out sucks etc etc etc ... Or a real winner. " Poor man's K Wiltjer "

I mean he is very slow

9 and 5 is reasonable. He needed 28 minutes/game to get his 16 and 9 at Bucknell, which is good production, but he's not going to play 28 minutes here and he's certainly not going to his team's #1 or #2 option like he was there.

He was taking 11 shots per game at Bucknell. He would be lucky to get 7 shots a game at UK.

I think the scoring and rebounding numbers look something like this:

Maxey - 13ppg, 3rpg
Whitney - 12ppg, 5rpg
Hagans - 10ppg, 3rpg
Montgomery - 10ppg, 7rpg
Sestina - 9ppg, 6rpg
Quickley - 7ppg, 2rpg
Brooks - 7ppg, 4rpg
Richards - 6ppg, 6rpg
rest of team - 3ppg, 2rpg

The team will likely have good balance but probably no star power.

I really think he was brought in to play a Wiltjer type role. Stretch the floor and draw a defender. He is stout enough that he should be more productive near the basket as well, which will keep the D more honest. Plus he gives you 5 more fouls to play with and he is a good FT shooter.

Richards and Montgomery will play the bulk of the 4 and 5, with Brooks at the 4 some as well. Once those first 2 settle in and aren't constantly worried about getting pulled, I think we will see major leaps from both players.

If Nick and EJ take that step forward, we'll be toward the front of the pack as far as title contention.

Wanna come pick it up? :boxing:
Sure, but we both know you aren't man enough to show up if you aren't even man enough to admit defeat and pay up. Obviously you weren't raised with honesty, integrity, honor or morals. You would be the type of loser that would show up with a gun because you can't fight like a man. I imagine that is how you were raised.

Listen asshat, I get that you were having some fun with this but you're starting to cross the line. You know absolutely nothing about me. I come from a long line of servicemen who fought for your very right to be on this message board. So, you would be wise to shut your trap about the honor and integrity. You obviously have a few screws loose or you like to drink early in the day, not sure which.

So, we can easily set this up if you are serious.

Are you really that mad over a message board "bet"?

I know you are the type to make a bet and then run from it. I know you are the type of guy who lies, has no honor, no integrity. I know you already wrote one check your *** can't cash and now you are about to write a second. If you want to meet up and have me publicly humiliate you that is fine, we can do that; just name a time and place!

I highly doubt anything you just said about your family is true, and if it is, clearly that did not distill that same level of integrity, honesty and honor in you.

You jumped on a message board attacking someone who was posting something you did not want to hear or agree with. Then you continued it and made a bet you obviously weren't prepared or equipped to honor. Not just once, but twice. Then after that, you couldn't even demonstrate the ability to just come admit you were wrong and own up to it.

So let me know what you would like to do. I backed up what I said the first time around, I am more than okay doing it again! However, if we are meeting up to settle this, make sure to bring my $1,500. If I am going to jail for beating a child, I am at least going to have bail money on hand.

Yea, I really appear like the angry one and "tough guy behind a keyboard" when you are calling people names, requesting we meet up, which we both know you never will and is why you want to "email" about it now (notice I am willing to discuss it here in front of everyone) and telling me I am starting to cross a line. You mean your disgruntled line?
