FWIW, this is the last game this year where we'll be a solid underdog. We're likely a small underdog or coin flip at Washington, and then a TD+ favorite over the rest (and multiple TD favorite against Rutgers)...and @Grant Green can keep me honest on those numbers if he'd like. These types of comments are the same thing we heard in 2020 when people predicted we wouldn't win a game, or last year when people predicted we'd lose out. We've had some bad results, but it's not like we're suddenly on a collision course with a winless Big Ten season as some seem to believe. Something less than 7-5 at this point would be a pretty big failure.

I didn't say we wouldn't win another game, but 6-6 wouldn't be a shock as neither would 8-4 or 7-5 at this point. This isn't a strong team and the beauty of Vegas numbers is they will adjust one way or another depending on how the games do play out. So many people shot their mouths off about the easy schedule and how anything less than 10 wins would be a disappointment. The reality is people love to pretend or think they are smarter than they are (myself included, we all do it), but this is not a good team and it has severe talent issues in key spots.

Right now, this looks like the worst PSU team since 2003. However, like I've said, they were beating a one loss team by ten points with eight minutes to go in one game and played a one score game against another one loss team that probably will be the best team that they'll play this season. After this next game, they'll mostly play teams on their level or worse in talent, and most of those games will be at home, so 7-5 is viable even with this roster.

You curiously missed a Big Ten Championship in his third year. Followed by 11-2. 9-4, 11-2
Then 13-3 in 2024, then 2025 3-3 fired. See I asked a straight forward question about support for the current coach if he can't do better than 8-4. You made it about Franklin. Franklin was 104-45. You can step up and declare that Campbell will have a better won loss percentage. Go ahead.
I will declare that once Campbell's term as PSU HC is over he will not be the owner of the worst start in PSU history. I think BGJ has that one securely locked down.

Barring a significant change (like Becht injury), I have PSU as a TD+ favorite against every team left on the schedule except UW. I have that game close to a pickem with Desmond Williams, but I think I may be a little higher on UW than the market. PSU a 3 to 3.5 favorite at UW with their backup (although he didn't do terrible in relief last week garbage time).
I think Penn state is better off with a Becht injury

Becht played well last week--we have no idea if we'd be better off with or without him (no one ever knows) but you can't blame last week on him.
Really need Howard back but last week was a good step forward.

He was better against USC, but still inconsistent. Better off with a youngster getting reps, especially if he has a stronger arm

Bett off for next year but if the goal is still to win games this year then that's untrue
He wasn't that inconsistent against Southern Cal--not sure what you're looking for that would be consistent. All QBs miss throws and reads in every game.

Better off with Grunk, but some of us knew that months ago.
There were "holdover" PSU staff that warned CMC that some of the ISU talent he was considering for transfer to PSU were not going to fit well in the Big Ten. CMC chose to listen to his ISU staff and forge ahead.
Once he made that decision, I can see why he brought Becht.
Hindsight is 20-20 and I'm sure if he saw the season unfolding as it has, he might have done things differently. I can't kill him on the QB decision alone. I am concerned that the coach we were told was a premier talent evaluator and a massive in game management improvement over Franklin, has been conspicuously absent to date.
We certainly are not experiencing an uptick in recruiting either.
Today IMO is important. Michigan isn't a good team either. A win today can build some positive momentum to close the season with optimism that is sorely needed. The remaining 5 games are all winnable. Rutgers 0-3, Maryland 0-3, Washington 1-3 in conference. Not exactly murderers row.
Please don't tell me Purdue has more talent either.

We're still pretending Grunk isn't losing games to bad ACC teams? Or that he would have stayed? Interesting
Not "pretending" anything. Grunk has the higher QB rating and more yards per game. He also has more upside for next year.

And yes, he wanted to stay until he was told he wasn't wanted.

We would have been better off.

More yards is highly inflated due to the Pitt game in which he was cost them the game with mistakes. QB rating is also tied to that game.
Grunk and Becht are similar if anyone wants to be honest about it.
Also, if Grunk wanted to stay (he didn't) then he could have and started in 2027 and beyond if he earned it but he was always following James--he was loyal to him not the program. Hopefully it works out for him. It didn't for Allar, Singleton and many others.
They lost to Cal and Pitt--Grunk isn't a difference maker

It;s obvious you didn't watch his games. He threw one bad pick against Pitt, The other was not a pick. He had the ball taken out as he was throwing on another play.
He is playing great considering he has only played about 12 games,
Penn State would probably be undefeated with him,.

I think some tykes are drinking.

I actually read what you cc’d. 2 is in finance.:(

Fair, how ya doin'?

Did I see something recently on X I believe that big game james was already complaining about his office space at VT and wanted it bigger? Meanwhile Campbell had a large chunk of his office inherited from big game james cut out so the special teams would have a video room? If so what differences between coaches... We are seeing why PSU players are happier, PSU football alumni are happy and welcomed now back, the PSU administration is happier.

That Jay Paterno made $5M dollars independently, which you would have absolutely no way of knowing. Even if that were true, that’s a bit sad. I made $20M just last year freelancing.

We do.

sharpening pitch forks, check

lighting torches, check

preparing effigy, check

committee meeting tonight, check

be prepared to pick new AD, new coach

I'll never understand why Universities continue to support Greek life on campus or permit any affiliation with any of them and the school. The good they do can immediately get erased by this type of stuff. We all know what these frats are really there for: lure in women with the illusion of a safe environment to drink, get them drunk, and see what happens. Just promote the excuse of "you were drunk" to women and the sex doesn't count for them.

All of the illegal/questionable/over the line stuff that everyone could ignore or claim lack of evidence about in the 60s/70s/80s and even 90s at all of these frat parties can all be documented now. All of it; with pictures and words right from the horse's mouth! Even if none of what happened at Cornell is true or if even 1% of it is true, why do you want your school attached to any of this? Take it all off campus and tell everyone none of this has anything to do with us. We provide classrooms and places to learn, that's it. What your kid does off campus is their own call; we do not support, promote, or permit any of it on campus.

The next shoe to drop will be this NIL money. Someone's kid is going to get killed by a rich NIL athlete who is in his 10th year of eligibility. And it is going to come out that this "kid" wasn't doing anything academically at the school and his NIL was allowing him to supercharge his poor behavior. And the school knowingly allowed all of this to go on and fostered an environment for same. It's not worth it.

I think some tykes are drinking!

The VT kicker lost the Pitt game (it was iffy) and the other game.

Becht is the best QB to ever play at PSU lol. He sucks. Grunk will play in the NFL.
Grunk will be on a roster in the NFL because he's a prototypical QB
Becht won't be because of his size
You're overselling Grunk because you're angry about Becht

No, he didn't. One play never wins or loses a game--their kicker obviously didn't help but they wouldn't have need that kick had Grunk and Va Tech as a team played better.

We dont know if he'll be better or not. If he's not he won't have a job. Definitely not hoping he becomes Franklin. Franklin failed.
How did he fail? Because he couldn’t win a national championship? I think his time here was largely a success. Personally, I wish he would have been given more time with this new playoff expansion and larger NIL budget Campbell is now getting. Failure is never a word I’d use for him.
