Lmao Golden isn’t that good of a coach. The ONLY reason they won last year was due to Clayton. Clayton saved them against Texas Tech, Houston, UConn and Auburn. That’s just off the top of my head. Had nothing to do with Golden. This year, he’s taught his bigs to hold, grab, push and go over the back. He knows they won’t be called for it, especially in the SEC.

I hope you are right and they fizzle out this year. Near the end of the year, I was hoping that if we get bumped that Florida would win it all. Now, I hope they lose ASAP.

Since UNC hired Belichick it is clear that they continue to value winning over anything else. Maybe Golden would be the perfect hire for them afterall. LOL

You’re probably the only person in the country that would say he’s not a good coach. You’re even making bad posts like your buddy now lmbo

That would suck if they steal one of the good coaches I was hoping for here.
They are! As soon as they caught wind that UK was keeping Pope around for another “atta boy”, for the participation trophy portion of the fan base, they smelled blood!

Can I go ahead and get one of those, “I told you so’s!”, out of the way while we’re at it?

If they fire him, the replacement will be an interesting data point for one of the ongoing debates here about how much “blue blood” status still matters. Personally, I won’t be surprised if it ends up being someone like Josh Schertz or Brian Hodgson instead of just taking their pick of coaches from current Final Four contenders, but I’ll own it if I’m wrong.
Nope! There’s one guy and one guy only that they will be contacting, if they haven’t already, and by all accounts, they absolutely have!

He’s a decent coach, but he’s not some super great coach like yall act like he is. How far they make it last year without Clayton? Not very. They lose second round without him. Clayton literally willed that team to victory so many time in that tournament! Next Pitino?! Lmao not even close.

I worry we’re going to “eat last” among the blue bloods. UNC picks up an elite coach this hear, then Kansas does next year while we piddle around determining Pope should get a 4th year or not. Where does that leave us beyond picking the leftovers?
You already know how this movie ends🤣

It may not matter cause it seems like Pope is coming back regardless (which i dont fully agree with).. but I dont like that UNC is potentially getting out ahead of us for a coaching search.

Theres still a chance that Pope has to go simply because the new AD and/or GM wont want him.
Can only hope that the case

I doubt it. But your concern is valid. Doesn’t matter what anyone says. Could be a bad hire and bad timing thing which is bad, and knowing Mitch? It’s a very Mitch thing to do.

Kentucky will right it eventually but I don’t want to sit here waiting 4-7 years watching the others tear it up while we’re wondering who we’re getting. I’m not being an asss I just don’t believe Pope is going to make it, I don’t see a possibility of consistency even if he pulls a Hubert and made a final four.

Before last year his record wasn't better than Pope's is now. He had one first round exit at San Fran and had a winning percentage of 57-36 overall and 23-22 in conference. Then in his first two season at Florida he lost in the first round of the NIT and then lost in the first round of the Big Dance.

That kind of resume would never work at UK. We want to fire Pope even though he has won 3 games in the tournament in his first 2 years at UK and isn't done yet. Golden needs a few more seasons to prove himself that he isn't just a one hit wonder, IMO.

On that one you and I agree. Next year is make or break.
I’m worried more about Pope squeezing out a sweet 16 and next year having the same type of season and squeezing it out again. I’d still what him removed, but I don’t think they would. We don’t want to get stuck in the middle of middling Pope abilities. It’s like we’re doing what he’s always done but some slight tournament success can happen when you’re spending millions and millions of dollars. We need to look at it from a lbs for lbs situation. Given the financial power, and past and current history, some sweet 16’s don’t need to be enough to keep him in place. It’s just a pattern of average which we don’t do here.

He’s a good basketball coach. I don’t like how he acts because he seems like a jerk. But idk how anyone could say he’s not a good coach.

Actually, we do that here. Tubby had a NC and then an E8. For the next 8 years all he could manage was 2 more E8's. Billy had off the court issues. Cal was given 5 years of poor performance before he was finally gently pushed out the door. I get your concern. I really do.

These clowns think just because he caught literally lightning in a bottle that he’s some great coach. Lmao Clayton is the ONLY reason they won that title last year. All one had to do was actually watch those games. Wasn’t because the coach did some masterful job. Literally just isolated Clayton every game at crunch time.

So I’m a “fool” now huh?! Lmao because I don’t think he’s some great coach?! Think about it objectively. Better yet, go watch those games in the tournament last year. Clayton is the ONLY reason they won that title. Don’t forget we beat them in Rupp last year, even with the refs doing everything they could to see that we didn’t.

This is worst case for us. While we have to keep Pope another damn year, UNC will fire Davis and get either Oates or Golden. Wouldn’t shock me if Self stepped down this year or next and KU got whichever UNC doesn’t, leaving us with nothing yet again because our inept AD is slow to pull the trigger.

This has been beat to death. There is no comparison in the two. I don’t know where this keeps from from. No comparison.

They will end up with Todd Golden even though Hubert Davis has had better results and four seasons then Mark Pope and two they’re gonna make a move because that’s a winning program. They know how close they are to being the top program and how vulnerable UK is right now.

We beat EVERYTHING to death on this board. Anyway, his resume is only impressive because he won the title last year. That carries a ton of weight. Before that, if UK hired him this board would have melted down.

I hope UNC actually hires Golden. It would be interesting, to say the least.
