Being an NCAA athlete is a privilege not a right. No one is saying you can't do it they're just saying your eligibility must be over at a certain age
It is also about being a student.

You cannot govern privilege without tyranny. Well, if it's deemed unsafe I guess it can be governed...drugs and murder could be considered a privilege.

Full disclosure on my thoughts. This is 100% a Civil Rights violation because of the age requirement. If they were to remove that, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. But, since like me, my kids will be 19 when they leave my house. It is proven that the older kids in their high school graduating class have more success than the younger kids. The NCAA just stripped that from my household if I want them to have their full eligibility. It would've been stripped from me. This is 100% for Football and Basketball, nothing more. It is a money control lever that will injure others by collateral damage.

IF, and I am not sure how this gets accomplished...IF a class action was filed through the ADA against the NCAA, they would lose.

When an athlete took and Olympic redshirt they filed for a season of competition waiver. Wrestling, Swimming and field hockey were the only 3 sport that had Olympic Redshirts I believe
Correct but again it’s the language. The top of that pic says “the new age-based rule”. The Olympic shirt falls under the old rules. They haven’t said explicitly it cannot be used if you’ve elected for the old system. Only that they won’t be a thing in “the new rule”. Very clearly have said you get to choose old rules v new rules so why would they only say this under something that is titled new rules.

Again, the intention is to get rid of all of it. They’ve done a piss poor job of being very explicit IMO. So it leaves room for speculation.

You were 19 before September 1 your Sr year HS? Most 1 year holdbacks aren't

They're not gonna allow one graduating class 2026 to have 6-7 years and all the other classes 5. The reason they made the rule was so you get 5 years and you are done. This is also about roster caps it streamlines things for everyone

Now wait a minute. If that’s the rule, I’m not so far gone on this…but still gone, just closer.

That is making sense. Turn 19 in January, your clock starts 9/1 in which you’d be enrolled anyway. Is that correct?

You seem to be operating under the pretense that the NCAA makes rational decisions. I see the confusion now.

But really, end of discussion. I have said I believe you will be right, just don’t count out my theoretical until the fat lady sings.
