It's so interesting because if Hubert beats Clemson in the ACC tournament and beats VCU in the NCAA, he still has a job. Just strange that a few games dictate his entire future. I hope he gets a lifetime contract there because he's just an average coach, but he has won 70% of his games.

How many coaches in any of the power 5 conferences have won 70% of their games the past five years...besides Scheyer, of course.
Over 70%? More than two or three. Painter, Oates, Calipari, Self, Izzo, Sampson, Hurley, Golden, Hell Mike White is probably close. Kelsey if you include his job befire Louisville. Ryan Odom. Brownell at 66. Not trying to pick apart your post. Thought the question was a good one, and I may have given a couple on the list ( looking at you Coach Cal) too much credit.

Hubert has a strong overall record, but it’s the NCAAT that will be his undoing.
The dilemma in Chapel Hill at the moment is this: we have a beloved coach who the boosters want gone and are threatening to withhold Nil cash and booster fees until he is gone, and the admin who are looking at their binder of potential replacements and wondering, “ Are any of these guys better than what we have now?” They don’t want to be the Pres and AD who hire the next Matt Doherty.

Wonder what's going on at UNC? I would've thought something good or bad would've came out by now.
The admin doesn’t want to pull the trigger so I’m told. There’s no home run hire waiting in the wings and they don’t want to hire another Matt Doherty.
The Pres and AD like their jobs and are clinging to them for dear life.

They always have to bring up the '22 Final Four. So tired of hearing about those two games in '22 and the loss last year against Houston. It's all these dipshits talk about around here in tarhole country. Btw, none of them want Nate Oats or Todd Golden. They keep talking about Billy Donovan, Jay Wright, and Brad Stevens. I think the cat from Iowa State or that dude from Vanderbilt would be better options. So, I hope they **** the bed and pick the worst option out there, and that's Kenny Smith!

Or they could promote from within. Sean May? HansTravel?

I haven't seen his name pop up anywhere, and none of the fans I know have mentioned him. They all want Brad Stevens. That's all I have heard, and I talked to about 25+ hole fans about it since the loss last week. Unfortunately, I work with 100 people, and probably 60-70 of them are UNC fans, a few VT, State & Duke, but they're casual fans. So the conversations about college basketball mostly sucks, haha

Psycho T has jokingly been mentioned. The Stephen A. Smith rant about Kenny Smith getting the job got the few I talk to up in arms, haha
I could support that. Two birds one stone. No more Kenny embarrassing himself on TNT Good. He could embarass himself on the Carolina sideline. Great. He might be the biggest ******* on television He and Jay bilas are neck and neck

If I were Golden I wouldn’t leave Uf for Carolina. The nil era has changed the dynamic of what used to be “dream jobs”. There’s no such thing anymore. Sadly, Uf is a better job. Better conference better Nil situation. That’s never gonna happen. Keep dreaming.
As for Brad Stevens he obviously doesn’t want to coach. He turned down great jobs before this nil ********, and now all of a sudden he wants to dive head first into this chaos? Doubt it.

“My desire was to continue to coach here”.
Yeh we figured that. He needs a new lawyer/ agent whoever churned this sh- out.

I feel bad for the guy. He’s a likeable guy, terrible after losses, but if he wants to talk about his faith that’s cool.

But if you notice he didn’t mention the first round losses. It reads like “ I did great. I shouldn’t be fired” kind of speech. Maybe at Clemson or Va Tech he wouldn’t have been.

Carolina is a blue blood like it or not. He acts like he’s coaching at FSU or Georgia for crying out loud.

Watch this UNC coaching search turn into Penn State football. A 54 day journey on the back side of the desert.... It will likely be Oats or if they were smart, take a hard look at Iowa's coach.

What's going on at NC State? Seeing cryptic messages of Will Wade going back to LSU
We might find out next week, but sure as hell not this one. If Wade leaves before April 1, he owes the Wolfsack 6 million. So he’s very “I need some time to think about it” all of a sudden. These coaches’ contracts are a riot.

They’re not smart and they’re not gonna look.
They want five star Caleb Wilsons. They would rather lose pretty than win ugly. They want their team to look a certain way more than anything and they’d rather lose than look like a bunch that just walked off the set of Hoosiers

I think this is a fantastic post, so thanks for replying. There are a few names that fall short of the 70%, Golden hasn't done that at FL (although he's been great the last 3 seasons), Mike White is well below that at 57% and Brownell is below 70%. There are only a few power 5 Head Coaches that have done this. That said, it's completely true that his post season has fallen way short of expectations. I just hope they get a mediocre coach again.

If I was at a major program and were looking for a new coach, I wouldn't hesitate talking to Flynn Clayman of High Point. I think he's an up and coming coach. Confident and young.

On top of the Will Wade situation I'm also seeing rumors Self possibly retiring which doesn't surprise me considering his health situation in recent years
