That and burn out/injuries obviously played a factor for Chittum. The skillsets are a bit different, but both relied heavily on physicality and pace...

JW had flashes of potential but the guy just never did the right thing to be consistent. VV got rewarded for being with the program the right way and being reliable. If the floor is the same, you go with the guy that has the heart.
Then why bring him in the first time or have him return?

I strongly disagree. Wrestling in college is a privilege and even more so for a historic program like Iowa. IMO Brands would be a total hypocrite based on his prior handling of Pat Downey.
To me this was similar in earning the trust... JW was proving he has changed and living the "lifestyle" that is expected to wear the singlet again.

1. Smoking weed without legally being arrested
2. Drinking alcohol and getting a 2nd DUI

The police affidavit states that after Williams woke up, the officer observed an alcohol smell, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, as well as Williams showing impairment in standardized field sobriety tests. Williams refused a preliminary breath test, according to the police affidavit.

According to court records he agreed to a plea deal for Disorderly Conduct. There was certainly probable cause for the officer to arrest him for DUI/OWI, but difficult to prove that he drove while intoxicated, since apparently nobody witnesses him driving. Disorderly Conduct is a much lesser charge, won’t affect his driving privilege and won’t get reported to his insurance company. Brands said it was handled internally within the university. Not sure if that means he’s done or if he is still with the team. One way or another, the kid needs some help, before he destroys his future.

My mistake, you are correct sir. His previous OWI was dropped. I imagine the University will let the legal system pan out and then make their decision.

Not true. In order to effect an arrest all officers need is probable cause that the offense occurred, hence he was booked for OWI. It requires a "fair probability" that a crime occurred or that evidence exists in a specific spot. Dude passed out drunk in a car for several hours with engine running and nobody else around is certainly at least a “fair probability” that DUI occurred. There is certainly evidence to support that (Williams was intoxicated, in possession of alcohol, engine running etc). Difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt however. Very possible he pleads to a lesser charge.
