He isn't pulling any of those guys. The only reason he got two top #5 picks is because there is an overall drop of talent in the program. Playing time is there in bulk. Those two picks also felt Cal would be losing a bunch of players. He's done. Great representative, gets kids that by and large stay out of trouble and go to class. He can't build teams when elite recruits aren't there. I do think he was able to build great teams at Memphis without all the elite recruits, but something changed in Cal.
Of course things changed. He has never been wrong... he was right and things changed. Like clock work. If Dave would be a normal fan like the rest of us, but no... he has to pretend to know when he’s just guessing.

Honest question. Are kids using UK to gain attention and then do whatever they want to do?
I like Pope, but it makes NO sense for this kid to go there if he wants to be an NBA anything. He will get little to no exposure there (unless he drops 25-30 a game).

On big men he has missed his top targets.That's just a fact.
BYU will probably have two nationally televised games this coming season: Gonzaga and at Gonzaga, and those games will tip at 11pm EST on the Ocho!
The sky was falling on here last year when Blackshear decided to go to Florida. How did that work out? UK turned out to be better off with Nick Richards than Blackshear.
Except we have no Nick to fall back on this go around, but I do agree that it’s not as bad as most think
Haarms needed to drop down a level if he wanted to play more than he did at Purdue. BYU fits that description.
Even so, Cal has said that if we don't land a big man, we're a fraud.
But let's depend entirely on Ware, Jackson, and Brooks in our front line, right?
We need and have always needed someone like Cisse to reclass and come here.
And there are other options out there. Trust in Cal.
And at this point in the process, the real options are only going to come from the reclass category, not the bargain bin grad transfer market.
Since there was no tournament it ended up not mattering but Blackshear would have took EJ spot, not Nick’s. And yes, we would have been much better off with KB than EJ.
EVen with Haarms next year was gonna be average at best. Now.... I’m hoping there’s not a season. Maybe if Cal has over a full year to recruit for one specific season he might have a chance to win another title.
Remember Zimmerman, Newman, Allen, Bolden? How did it work out for those players and others I didn't mention who chose schools other than UK?
That’s not what I was saying. He said offer someone 7’2-7’4 every year because of their size, so I pointed out the Tubby argument. Easy to draw the line between those 2 comments.
Oh yeah, a guy who was coached by Cal and Kenny Payne EVERY DAY for 3 years, and JUST turned the corner.
But Matt Haarms, who with CoronaVirus will probably get a month or two under Cal before the season begins, will completely overhaul his game and no longer become foul-prone?

It's not the haarms decision that frustrates me.lt's losing 5 starters when it looks like only one will be as first round pick.
It’s still April. Things are likely going to get crazy in May and June when kids start to finish up their classes. Some serious reclassing will happen because it is going to be much easier to reclass.
Also, the transfer rule COULD change. I think they vote next month. If they change the rule and it goes into effect immediately, there will be a flood of talent enter the portal. It will be crazy if it happens.
Cal will likely have plenty of room while other coaches might already have their rosters set.
So many possibilities this summer. Cal is very patient. I think that will pay off.

Well SOB. That sucks. Maybe Haarms feels like he isn’t good enough to play Kentucky? Always had a fear he would get torched on defense under Cals system. Not athletic enough.
Did you fact check this? That doesn't sound right. Our 2010 and 2015 rosters had to be taller across the board. Especially the 15 team.
Well it has been proven the past 2 years that unathletic bigs get exposed in pick and roll situations with our defensive scheme. Reid and Nate both got singled out multiple times per game in those situations to get them on a quick guard that they couldn't handle.
Problem is, the refs in the BIG10 don’t call as many chippy fouls as they do in the SEC. There is a stark difference between the two leagues.
When you watch BIG10 games, those teams are allowed to hammer each other, especially in the paint. In the SEC, everything is a foul.
Maybe that will change with the new head of SEC officiating, but I doubt it.
Yep, this is a reason why Haarms might not've been a good fit in the SEC.
He had issues with being foul prone in the Big 10, which allows far more physical contact than the SEC. If you're foul prone in the Big 10 then you're probably gonna be fouling out of games before halftime with SEC refs.
So much for all those lineups I’ve seen posted with Haarms already penciled. Good thing it was in pencil.
