Meh. You can still overpower teams with our size but we refused to do it consistently. We saw 5 minutes of what our offense should be and never went back. That's on Cal. This team is young, dumb and flawed but they're not NIT bad. They're being put in bad positions on top of being dumb. Refusing to play the obvious best lineup is maybe the most frustrating thing he's done in his tenure.

We're just stupid.
Hey, hey, hey. You cannot call the team stupid. You have to call them basketball-stupid, or refer to a “low basketball IQ.” If you don’t couch the low intelligence critique with an explicit “on the basketball court” qualifier, this whole thing will come crashing down.

Didnt like the post game narrative from Cal saying he is fine but its about the kids...no buddy you are not fine. No sane fan wants to run you out of town but we expect better from YOU. Get better. Thats all.

In an era where shooting and basketball skills are more important than ever, we're fielding a team filled with athletes who excel at neither.

The staff has done a piss poor job with this group, but there are no tweaks that can fix what's wrong this season.

Yep. The season was lost before it even started. Because we failed to land any of the topflight NBA prospects, we ended up with a group of freshman not skilled enough to be good outside of a narrow role. Knox is perhaps the most talented, but he is still limited by weak handles.

Having no outstanding NBA prospect is sobering, but perhaps refreshing if the group served as the foundation for future teams. Cal could devote more resources into player development rather than relying on additional recruiting dice rolls. Coaching the players in a manner to prepare them for success in future seasons instead of a get good quick scheme for the immediate season necessitated by extreme roster volatility would be a paradigm change, but it might be in order if we are going to continually miss the surefire NBA prospects.

I'm ok we lose 3 guys. Lose 5 and I'm not. That **** is fine when we're winning. Not in a 10+ loss season.

I’ve posted this many times before. UK is at its best when the head coach would cut his dick off to win a title. Surveying the landscape, it’s Sean Miller or Gregg Marshall that come to mind first when applying that lens. JMHO.
A lot of people buried K and dismissed Roy after similar lulls...in fact, worse. I mean, we were probably the second best team at the end of the year last year. Some perspective please.

I think Cal has it in him to come back HAM for another run...but I also think it’s fair to say he got cocky and it bit him. Podcast, 30 for 30, not replacing O with a like-kind recruiter, slow playing major recruits.

Bridge year, get some of these guys back...next year could be a lot of fun.

I mean just look at the number of guys who have done it. They're by far the exception and not the rule. And I can name five coaches who got a title and then their performance decreased over time either immediately or within a year or two as is the case with Cal for every one who ended up building off that title to sustained success. But we were really good in 2015, three years ago, so WTF do I know, maybe we're on a roll and I just don't realize it.

****, Bristol. We were a buzzer beater from a Final Four and maybe winning it all last f'n year. We're not talking Kevin Ollie or Gary Williams here.
Go read what I wrote and tell me where I said Cal is Kevin Ollie or Gary Williams. I'm saying we've taken a step back from where we were and Cal hasn't been at the level he was. That's undeniable. Just missing a final four one out of the last three years with the other two years not being a serious contender is a long way from going five out of six years where we fully expected and were a favorite to win the title either throughout the regular season, late in the tournament or both. We're not that team on the court anymore, we're not that team in recruiting anymore. We're a pretty good team most years, and a fringe tournament team this year. That's what we are right now.

Worth noting that when Shai went out, we ran some offense.

Like I've mentioned, weird thing with him right now. He's our best player, best option to get a bucket, but his best qualities seem to hurt the overall flow of the team & everyone else.

He reminds me of Rondo under Tubby in that sense. He also dribbles around and 'probes' the defense in a way that reminds me of Rondo. But it's like he's running a different offense than his teammates are running.

Buddy of mine has a theory that the majority of coaches get soft after their first title. First mentioned it when we were chasing Cal and Billy Donovan. Said he wanted the hungrier coach. It's only natural, you win your first, you get a little bored, a little distracted... write a book, lose your edge. It doesn't mean Cal sucks or anything, but he's not quite the same guy he was when we hired him. The rest of the Cal era may not be what most expect. Again, doesn't mean he sucks or it's gonna suck, but it's worth recognizing that you're never gonna be as hungry for your second taste of the mountain-top.

I always thought that's what happened with Tubby Smith. Winning a title his first year at UK was a mixed blessing for him and his subsequent coaching career.

He has to be a rock right now. He’s the coach not a fan. He can’t be losing his mind with a team full of freshmen in a skid.

STFU. Yeah we were really good three years ago and we were probably a rimmed out shot from winning it all last year.

I’m fine lambasting this team but when you start making **** up and forgetting ****, get out of here.

Again, your buddy’s take was stupid and you were stupid for passing it on. Don’t get your feelings hurt. Just dry out a bit.

It ruins the entire month of March when we miss the tournament, so we at least need to get our **** together enough to make that happen.

I can understand not being really good, but to not make the tournament with this team, with this awful of a bubble, would be total unmitigated disaster.

Tubby just wasn’t a great coach. He was very fortunate. A lot of guys make one F4 and they do it at places much harder to win at than Kentucky.

So, see this book coming out - the inside story of The Wire. Go ahead and order it, only to find out it’s another damn oral history.

I guess nonfiction authors can’t just write a book these days.

Everybody relax. Chad says Cal's got this thing rocking and rolling. Final fours and titles are forthcoming. This sub .500 SEC season is all a part of Cal's plan. #RefusetoLose #TheTweak #EmbraceMediocrity #KeepCalmBarrettIsComing #WaitNoKeepCalmZionIsComing #OopsIMeanKeldonJohnsonIsComing

That’s not what I said. You’re just such a squealing little ***** right now that you can’t see straight.

Like I said, dry out.

Or you could buy the book that the producer of The Wire wrote that eventually became the basis for the show.

-Diallo is pressing so much. I hate it for him b/c he's handled about as well as you could ask an 18 year old. Make him 7th man and let him slowly regain confidence.

-We have to keep the "scorers" on the floor as much as possible. Time to tighten the rotation. Green, Shai, Knox..... Vando(creates), Washington... Wenyen, Diallo. Richards needs to be a foul trouble only situation.

-Get the ball in Green's hand.

So frustrating that Cal thought the big change was putting Gabriel in for Washington. SMH.
