It would be an interesting experiment to have every player return next year and see what happens, development-wise. It won't happen, of course, because "ending generational poverty" and whatnot, but one can dream.
Knox needs to go but the rest have no business unless Wenyen is fine going the Humpheries route.

I've been saying it for years but Dakich is simply the best color guy in the biz. PJ Carleeeesimo even worked well with him last night. WHO KNEW? Maybe it's the losing skid but as I told a couple guys via text last night, listening to Dakich drill (fairly) Cal and the team's effort has been therapeutic for me. Meaning, he sees the same awful **** we do and isn't afraid to sugarcoat it. Last thing I need is to get redass at some ******** Jay Bilas 'look at me' comment - watching Cal's product on the floor messing up the game of basketball is bad enough.

Whether its mumbling to get Diallo out of the game or stating Knox was just 'whipped' on a simple baseline drive, he'll effing say it. He never ventures into hateful but he's very direct in his views. Dude doesn't take himself too seriously, won't be afraid to veer off topic occasionally and make a few jokes, and seemingly has good on-air rapport with every guy he calls games with.

IDGAF how psychotic he is on his podcast or WTF he tweets on... strictly as a CBB color guy he simply does it better than anyone else and is a joy to listen to.

^ this. We don’t have the pieces this year.

Team is in no way comparable to the 2014 Chad keeps holding onto.

Oh yeah- I remember everyone being calm and confident and loving our pieces in February 2014.

No one has a perfect roster in college basketball in 2018.

Outside of New Orleans, what NBA team would relocate to Louisville? Memphis is a lateral move at best. Especially with Vegas thriving with their NHL team. And the NBA wants a team back in Seattle.

Don't see it happening. We had our chance 10-15 years ago and blew it.

I think you are a cool dude Chad so dont take this the wrong way but this years team doesnt really have much comparison to the personnel we had in 2014.

I like your optimism, but I caution it as well buddy.

Holy ****, people, since the title we have gone to 2 more Final Fours and an Elite 8. It's not like this year is the norm.

This year's team has good athletes, but very few basketball players. A couple of them are gaping softies.

Cal put this team together and hasn't found a way to get them to play together. That's on him.

This season sucks. But I have zero doubt that we will be right back in the national title hunt as soon as next year.

The idea is that the NBA is going to expand with a new team in the West (Seattle?) and one in the East (Louisville?).

Ok

We have 6 power forwards, a center, and 3 guards (2 of which are not a threat to shoot)

Stick with blaming the refs every game like a little *****.

On paper, we have that. In reality, we have a center that can't catch, shoot or dunk, a couple PF's that can turn a ball over much easier than they can make an athletic scoring move or not foul, another PF that thinks he's a 6'2" guard so he stays outside the arc almost the entire game, a PG who can't dribble by his defender, is a liability on defense and lost his stroke and other one that tries so hard to do it all on his own but isn't capable of carrying an entire team through a run in March.

Other than that, the pieces are there. Be patient. It all works out in the end.

I don’t think saying “I wouldn’t count Cal out” is being a Pollyanna but whatever.

Being a little optimistic is better than the alternative, IMO.

-They'd go to 32 so each side has 16. They've basically said this is happening already. Seattle is pretty much automatic, as they should be, and the thought is Louisville is next if they have their **** together. Don't think its a coincidence investors are interested now that Tomma and Rick aren't sabotaging it.

-Doubles luge :joy::joy: Ace and Gary

-Speaking of that, Congrats DrX.

-Again, even Anth the homer of homers, can throw shade at Cal. Doesn't mean I don't want him to retire here. IMO, he's cost us the last 3 games.

-2014 had Randle. We don't have anyone close to that level. It also had the greatest clutch shooting runs in program history. This is just a different team. Doesn't mean they can't come together and win a few more games, we're right there in all these games. We just have to learn to close out. Whatever we found in WVU and less of UT, TAMU, Auburn.

Will SAE support them with his brain trust out? I mean he bought the anti-NBA propaganda from Floyd hook, line and sinker.

It would help if Green wasn't the most unathletic guard we've had since Michael porter. Like wtf was Cal thinking taking him over Young? Did he not scout him or something? Always thought Cal had a great eye for guard talent but talk about shitting the bed with that one

Any guesses as to which media member will be the first to offer this hot take if/when we lose in the 2nd round next month?

"In his first 9 years at Kentucky, John Calipari has won one national championship and advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament 6 times. In his first 9 years at Kentucky, Tubby Smith won one national championship and advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament 6 times. The only difference, of course, is that Tubby Smith never lost to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT, unlike one John Vincent Calipari. Ugh. Zoinks."

-criticism begins and ends with coaching staff. They recruited and are ostensibly coaching these kids. Even "coach" Barbee is making 400k + benifits to put this product on the court, "coach" Justice makes 140k.

-blaming the kids is lazy. A fish rots from the head.

-note: this criticism applies to this year only. Not looking to faarrr Cal or any nonsense. He has just done a *really* poor job this year...its ok, it happens.

I mean, if we're going to suck, this is the worst way to go about it as a pretentious fan. "Elite" talent with high expectations getting ran in a 'football' conference weighed down by an embarrassing lack of effort on the floor while not being armed with basketball's most important effing skill ----> shooting.

It's amazing.

I could stomach this **** if we had players that could at least put the ball in the hoop. But nooooo... we're #blessed to sit through these wonderful 9PM tips watching these kids trip over themselves through conference play with their timid *** training wheels still on and Cal acting like a GD maniac on the sideline. So much for helping yourselves out by actually moving the ball side to side, setting away screens, having your bigs pick for each other on the block, etc... Let's watch our PG pound the ball for 23 seconds and then finally send a high ball screener out to him (who by the way can't stretch the floor) for low percentage looks. MADNESS.

BTW, Cam Johnson is averaging more points for UNC with less minutes per than he did with Pitt. Would have been a perfect pick & pop guy, FWIW. Shame.

Nothings a lateral move if the powers that be are willing to give away enough $$$$.

Last years offense was one of our better ones and we got worked in recruiting last year, so that argument doesn't hold up. It can for sure be used against us this year but not last year. Again, we were really good last year. People joked about 2011 being the forgotten year but it will clearly be 2017.

Again, see BBdk's post. Our offense looks antiquated because the pieces don't fit. Duke is kicking our *** in recruiting because they have the best recruiter in the game right now.

Since Cal has been here we've only been out of the top 25 ADJO for KenPom once. This year will make twice.

I see this as a constant GYERO theme, but the more I think about it, it's hard for me to be too critical of Cal.

The biggest problem with this team is that each player is incredibly inconsistent game-to-game. Every time a player looks like they're ready to put the team on their sholders, they revert terribly. At one point, Diallo was unstopable. Now, against above-average defenses, he can't even be on the floor. Early in SEC play, PJ Washington was a beast getting to the rim and finishing. Now, his one-diminesional move is scouted and he's turned into a TO machine. Knox had a break-out game against WVU. Now, he's more likely to score 3pts on 4 shots than score 20pts.

From week-to-week, it's hard not to see Cal tweaking the offense to run sets through the play-maker of the week. The problem is, each time somebody seemingly emerges, they completely revert and set the team back.

2011 hangs in the rafters it will never be forgotten. Not many elite eight teams get remembered around these parts. IMO we had the hottest team in the country going into the tournament last year

To my untrained eyes, what we do seems pretty scoutable and basic. We can usually overcome it because of talent, one-on-one ability, etc., but - as far as I can tell - we've run the same **** for 9 years. At some point, I think that gets used against you, especially when the pro game has gotten so perimeter-shooting based.

Why is that raftardian? I guarantee Duke is using it against us. Every top school should be using it against us if they aren't.

Great, eff them. I would counter with:

John Wall
Demarcus Cousins
Eric Bledsoe
Brandon Knight
Anthony Davis
Michael Kidd Gilchrist
Karl Anthony Towns
Willy Cauley Stein
Devin Booker
De'Aaron Fox
Malik Monk

This **** really isn't complicated. Whip your dick out and say, do you want on the team or not? Or you can be a ***** and go to Duke or Kansas.

For some reason, the message didn't get through with this year's class.
