I said D3 was glorified intramurals, because it is. There's no athletic scholarships, practice time is limited, it's not revenue generating, and the coaches are also teachers and professors. Also, many of you who post on this thread (73, Killa, BBdK, richie, Vern) could absolutely have played somewhere in Division 3. For fun, here are some of the highest ranked D3 teams....

No, Beckett....didn't say anything that was remotely close to that. Simpson is unique and different...which is refreshing. But that doesn't mean he is the savior to country.
Musically, they are decent, but nothing stands out from the other "country rock" bands that are out there now. The only saving grace he has is his songwriting, which is nice to see deviate from the usual truck/beer/dirt road cliche that is being bottled and sold the last few years.

You have no clue what you're talking about. I played at a pretty competitive level, and my buddy that played NAIA was incredible. Like 360 dunks are easy kinda guy. Stick to running, dumbass.
Further, there are *442* Division 3 basketball schools in the country. With a roster of 15 players, that means there 6-7,000 D3 players.

There's no question there are great players all over every division in college basketball. But overall, D3 is high level intramurals, and most of you with any high school career could have gotten onto a team somewhere.

I have a buddy that was NAIA National Player of the Year. He was incredible, and got NBA tryouts. Could easily still be playing in Europe today if he wanted.
Also had another that barely made the team at Dunbar, and went onto have a good career at NAIA Cincinnati Bible College.
We're talking about just simply playing for a Division 3 team. Each of those 5 GYERO posters I listed could *easily* have done so.
Again, at lower D3 schools, it's very possible. At the very top schools, like Wisconsin-Plattville (Bo Ryan) or my school (2 Time D3 Champions)...absolutely not. We were pretty much a lower Ivy League, and schools like UWP are basically D2. Our volleyball team competed with a ton of D1 schools, and was pretty much made up of D1 academic transfers...and has won 10 National Championships.
Regardless of their talent, I think it's fair to question why a cool, social, athletic kid would choose a small college to play ball for 4 years when he could attend a state U. where there's a lot of parties and hot chicks. JMO.
This is where the thread misses a Herm or Tx. They would have already created some sort of spreadsheet that would have circulated among the regulars to track this.

Pretty much. My options were to play soccer at Centre, Georgetown, or Sewanee...or have the time of my life at UK.
Parties, big dorm, fraternity life, lassies, good education. Wasn't exactly a difficult decision.

My college roommate freshman year choose to become student manager. I choose the fraternity path. He's now an assistant at a mid major making good coin and on the upward path to become a head coach soon and I originate loans for a living. LIFE.

At least when I passed on the chance to go to UK and enjoy all it had to offer, I had the opportunity to be a competitive athlete and play at some of the best golf courses in the region for free, while at the same time having the university pay me scholarship money towards a first rate education, and give me a bunch of free stuff.

A lot going on in this picture, and none of it good for Mr. Palumbo.
- Pretty clearly he's trying to take a picture without him noticing. It's like if UKO tried to squeeze off a picture of some big titted waitress while she wasn't looking. You only see half the guy's head, and he's clearly got a little creeper grin, as he's really excited about this moment, and envisioning how the picture will make him seem "cool" on social media.
- Cal knows he's taking the picture but is doing his best to pretend like he doesn't see it. You can see the silent disgust seeping out of him, and that he is struggling to contain his contempt.
- I bet it took Mr. Palumbo an hour to come up with what he was going to say about this picture, and it still ended up being awkward and weird. He knows he couldn't just post it without saying anything, as that'd be too creepy even for him. So, he makes sure not to call him Cal or Coach, but to call him John, TWICE, because he needs to communicate the depth of their friendship (as he sees it) without just saying I Love You, John. And you can really tell he had no idea what to say after the coffee line, because that is objectively not the kind of picture you would use to say someone could coach another 15 years.
I have no idea why Cal subjects himself to them, but there's definitely another reason other than "he likes them". Edit: *found it* President of Palumbo Lumber and Development Company, Calipari Foundation Board Member.
