We think it is bad now just wait and see what happens if one of the old Libs on the bench passes away and Trump nominates a conservative. That might start a civil war.

I hate the dude but how big of a recruiting loss was Kennard? How the hell did a supposed diehard UK fan end up at Duke?

Late, but the mention of D-League salaries reminded me that the new NBA bargaining agreement supposedly will help with that. Maybe increasing salaries to $50-75K range. I mean... still bottom 20% of GYERO but not bad, right? That said, Briscoe may just be one of the hundreds of thousands of NCAA student athletes who go pro in something other than basketball.

So maybe the tweak is that, in addition to screaming GOOOOOOOOOO when we grab a board, Cal adds GIVE A SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT when we're on defense. If that would work, awesome.

Cal looked a good bit thinner in that old pic w/ the DDM condiments.

1937 was also one to two generations after the Civil War, less than 20 years into women being allowed to vote, ten years into the invention of television, and the country only had 48 states.

Just for perspective.

Crazy. Hard to imagine a time so long ago. Sounds like the prehistoric era.

Just for perspective, my father-in-law was born in 1935.

No one is a "die hard UK fan," gets recruited heavily by UK and then ends up at Duke. I'm sure as a kid he had a few Kentucky shirts or maybe went to a game, but I find it hard to believe that he was anything more than a casual fan. Sounds a lot like me being a Cowboys fan when I was nine because my mom bought me their Starter jacket and Emmitt Smith was cool.

And yes, massive miss. I'm sure he'd be nestled far down the bench between Brad and Hamidou.

- Duke's adjD is #35 and UNC's is #46. Kansas is mediocre defensively and UCLA is terrible.

So like I said, we're not the only teams with defensive issues we need to figure out.

- Kansas fans are convinced Young is Oklahoma-bound.

* (Ir)regardless, I won't be harkening back to the days of the 1930s to say "hey, things are actually pretty normal nowadays! Remember 1937??!"

* Great (lengthy) New Yorker article on Anthony Bourdain. I'm no foodie at all, but that guy kicks ***. Just an awesome all-around, fun dude.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/02/13/anthony-bourdains-moveable-feast

* UKO tries soooooooooo hard. Now he's running around social media insisting Sturgill Simpson's act is cliche/copycat/run-of-the-mill. :joy:

Basically, just the same ole tired country music act, featuring a horn section, songs about astrology, hallucinogenic drugs, religious dieties, a little acid rock, some heavy metal covers......cut-and-paste, for sure!!

* Speaking of country music acts, Ben Nichols of Lucero broke out on his own and recorded a solo album. I knew that, but didn't realize the entire thing was based on Cormac Mccarthy's Blood Meridian. Here's a fundraiser show he did, alongside a bunch of university/PHD history geeks, and explaining the meaning of each song as it relates to the novel.

I believe the term for this is "bro country."

* Haven't researched it thoroughly, but I believe Alabama can get pumped. No?

* Mardi Gras parades start this weekend. Yeehaw. Krewe de Vieux --> raunchy, filthy, satirical. A local favorite. See yall Saturday night. [banana][banana]

Needed UCLA -3.5 to close out a parlay. Went to bed with UCLA down like 68 so I assumed I was toast but wake up and see a 3 point win [laughing]. Vegas man

Interesting that so many of you fools GAMBOL, but the thread can never keep life. Would be fun to talk picks and cue up a few wins.

Kennard was 13 when Calipari got the job at Kentucky. Meaning up to that point, he had watched some **** basketball from the time he could finally play on a ten foot rim. So yeah "diehard"...probably not.

Duke won 2 Championships during Kennard's teenage years.

Kennard looks like the frat dude with shaggy hair who played hs ball and is now flat torching the nets in Intramurals.... Except he's an asassin at Duke and will play in The League. Drives me nuts but he's a hooper.

Duke played really, really well last night and with 1:45 to go it was a one possession game even though..

Duke had hit 9 more threes than Carolina
Carolina was 10-18 from the free throw line (Duke was 7-8)
Isiah Hicks 12ppg 7 reb were missing from the lineup.

I will continue to pump the brakes on Duke...especially all the strokers this morning claiming they are back.

The best big man in the country & lock All American, without question -- and is better than Bam at every single thing except dunking/explosiveness, which he can do just fine -- and he's NOWHERE to be seen in the 1st Round on any Draft Board or mock draft. Maybe being a soph hurts him, but it's much more about the new NBA, imo.

Just in case you're wondering why nobody is excited about Bam.

Kennard committed to Duke in March 2014. Probably thought Booker would be here for 2 years at that point. Who knows.
Yeah don't really understand questioning the Kennard commitment. Seems like the dude made a pretty good decision. None of you guys would steer your 5-star kid to a school that you are a fan of. Little more to it than that.

I don't understand how his hands don't get wet/greasy patting his soaking hair the entire game. Seems like a nervous tick more than him wanting his hair to 'look good', which it never does -- he never stops with it.

Kennard is awesome -- great kid, great game. I understand rooting against your rivals, but how any grown adult could "hate" that kid is beyond me.

That's what makes Kennard all the more likeable, imo -- he's as anti Duke white guy as it gets overall, imo.

Btw, still have no clue how Trae Young isn't a born & bred autolock Dukie. Just doesn't seem right.

Whomever on here was saying a group of GYERO ballers could compete with D III players is totally and absolutely clueless. Nobody on here has any clue how good all level of college players are relatively speaking.

Seen former NAIA players in their early to mid 30's come out and drag fools better than all of us in pick up or church league games.

We picked up Mark Krebs on our church league team 2 yrs in a row. I'm sitting here thinking.. He will be good. He played at Thomas Moore and then handed towels to Wall and Cousins. Nope. Dude is taking 2 dribbles past midcourt rise and firing... Net. Over and over and over. Strong and in crazy shape too.
