* Today's reading assignment....

The 1970s, sportswise, kinda sucked. Astroturf. Cookie cutter concrete bowl multi purpose stadiums. Reserve clause in baseball. Lots of drugs, though. So that's wodie.

Bought this for my uncle for his birthday and he loves it. You should follow @Super70sSports on the twitter machine. [thumb2]

Hartfield is aging their bourbon in 5 gallon barrels right now. It only ages a few months so I doubt they're outsourcing it.

Well, there you go. That's clearly terrible.

Bourbon aged less than four years has to include an age statement on its label, so anyone drinking that swill has no one to blame but himself.

I envy my parents who grew up watching the Machine. 6 NL West titles, 4 NL Pennants and 2 World Series Championships in a 10 year span. :fire:

As a UK fan / Reds fan, the 80s sucked far worse than the 70s.

UKBB - began the decade with a first-round NIT loss to Clemson. NCAAT upsets to MTSU and UAB; one Final Four in 1984, ended with a 3/33 2H in the Georgetown game; stopped short of FF in 1986 by LSU; and capped off the decade with probation.

UKFB - a couple of Hall of Fame Bowls. Yippee.

Reds - Nada.

A couple of models have Matthew hitting FL, going up the east coast, going back out to sea, then circling back around and hitting FL again. :grimace: Category 4 now.

A good friend of mine grew up on Cape Cod, wanted to be a sportscaster. He was advised to go somewhere in or near the south for college, to lose / even out his accent - and to pick a school with strong BB and FB programs.

He chose among 3 schools - Bama, WVU and UK. At the time (about 1984), UK was coming off two HOF Bowls, so that qualified as decent football, and he came to UK.

/Fascinating. Killing time here.

My brother and SIL evacuated Charleston yesterday. Looks like Matthew might miss them altogether now.

First two times I cried as a UK fan. That 86 one really hurt.

Having beaten Bama for the fourth time that year in the regional semifinal, and having to then play LSU for the fourth time that year in the regional final, is what led to NCAA changing the rules during NCAAT selection. We got hosed.

Chase, you may know my friend as "Rob Bromley".

Not really. My friend worked for KYT for a while but decided there wasn't enough $ in sportscasting until after years / decades of paying your dues in small markets. Lives in Lex, still has somewhat of a New England accent.

My point to all this is that for a brief time in the 1980s, UK was considered to have a strong FB program.

What's the best site for following Matthew? Every time I look to see where it is or who what the damage has been, I can't find the concise info I want. And I hate watching weather.com videos, so don't recommend that.

- One of my best friends is on like week 5 of a "drying out" phase. That's fine, Johnny Gooddecisionmaking, but don't get mad when I don't want to hang out with your soberass. What are we going to do? See a movie? Get a cup of F'ing coffee? Get over yourself.

- Sick as I am without fail every October. It's the only thing about this wonderful month I dislike.

- But yeah, these 80s temps can kindly GTFO.

- Cal loves this team. You can just tell. More than "I like my team" liking this team. These dudes are long, nasty athletes who want to dunk, swipe and swat everything. That backcourt is just ornery.

- Yeah, the lass's family is all concerned about Matthew in the Bahamas. Still amazes me she grew up on a beach in the Caribbean. I never would've guessed.

- Oktoberfest is a Septemberfest, you ignernt non-German sonofabitch. Stick to Mardi Gras, Louisiana.

- Rowan Creek is a nice little $35 bourbon.

That friend guaranteed me he'd Never have a single beer, glass of wine, or drop of alcohol the rest of his life...and got extremely offended when I doubted that.

K. Nice knowing you, then.

Got the F out of Jax yesterday and headed to Tampa. Hope the house is still there/not flooded. Matthew looks like it's going to be an all-timer.

[laughing] I wasn't even talking about that friend, but yeah, agreed.

There's a canyon between getting blacked out and never drinking again. Find the happy medium like an adult.

Yeah, at 35 drinking multiple drinks 9 days in a row including several after 1am nights and one that saw 2a. I needed to take a few days off. Never got hammered because I really don't do that anymore but I was doing pretty well. No interest in 5 weeks but was thinking about skipping Saturday b/c it's 4p game, we're taking G and the main party crew seems to be sitting this one out. Also, next week I have Friday Keeneland/Madness, Saturday Keeneland.
