The Athletic annual anonymous coaches article
Kentucky - “They’re the best team in our league. Before, they were a team of individuals, but now their roles are defined and they count on each other. They went into Kansas and beat the **** out of them. That’s not normal. This might be John Calipari’s best coaching job. Everyone talks about the one-and-dones, but he’s got transfers from Davidson, Creighton and Georgia. TyTy Washington has a level of confidence that’s unusual for a freshman.
Oscar Tshiebwe is not as bad as people think he is offensively. If he’s alone at 15 to 18 feet, that’s a bucket. I don’t think
Keion Brooks is a tough kid, but he’s extremely skilled and can make a 15-, 17-footer very consistently. Getting to their bench is key. If
Sahvir Wheeler drives the paint, you’d rather him shoot than pass. If you can neutralize
Kellan Grady and
Davion Mintz, jump shooting can be a concern for them. TyTy is not a high-level 3-point shooter. You can still get Tshiebwe in foul trouble. He doesn’t defend ball screens very well, but he’s an elite rim runner. He’ll outrun your point guard to the rim. That’s where Wheeler is special, in the open court.”
