Strickland was such a bulldog - he was really fun to watch. Just think of the what-ifs with that team if Andre Woolridge hadn't transferred to Iowa after his freshman year. He ended up a 3 year started for them and a 3rd team AA his senior year.

Totally agree, this team had potential and should have went further..
Every other tournament game we were a low seed except for 6th seed in 94.
2nd best Nebraska team was Cipriano’s 65-66 team that went 20-5 and finished 2 to KU in the Big 8, but only conference champions made the tournament back in those days.
We know enough that we don’t have the NIL money for basketball like we do in football as it should be..
He gets put in a blender 5 plus times a game. Towards the end of the Maryland game they just Iso'd him because they knew he couldn't guard the guy. Playing hard doesn't make you a D1 P4 starter.
I have stated something similar earlier. It’s mainly Kong pushing the narrative. If Rhule had gone to a news years day bowl in 2023 then the pinstripe in 2024 then you could compare with Fred.
It wasn’t all NBA but there were 8-9 guys that played professionally on that roster and maybe 5 that did make the NBA? Haven’t even had a collection of that type of talent in the 30 years since then combined!

Like I said earlier, I honestly don't know. I just have a hard time swallowing the idea that the state of NU basketball is due to lack of resources, or that it's a turn of events for which absolutely nobody can be held accountable.
We don't support basketball NIL enough to be able to attract top talent. Didn't BYU just pay a freshman basketball recruit 7 million? Our basketball budget is a couple pairs of shoes and a pack of gum compared to that.
I just don't think there's the economic base in our alumni and fan base to support both football and basketball NIL the way we would have to win at the level some expect.
How does Nebraska's basketball NIL compare to Iowa State's? Or St. John's? Or Texas Tech's?
I'm anxious to learn all these details.
I have no way of knowing Iowa State's but I know they have deals with a casino and a vodka company. Texas Tech has over 63,000 undergrad students and many of their grads go on to work in the energy field. You tell me if they might have a larger economic base than NU.
The proof is the kind of players we get. We paid Brice and Juwan to stick around this past year but thruthfully where was Gary going to go? Europe? We need enough NIL to pay 5-6 top guys not just 2 guys and a few cast offs with huge holes in their games.
They might both have gangbusters NIL for basketball - I have no idea. You're the one who's stating as a cold hard fact that NU's NIL for basketball is inadequate and not competitive, so I'm hoping you can share the basis for these statements.

Thats Nebraska's fault then but it's not that bad. The AD needs to decide, do we want to continue to be a nobody and suck year over year or do we want to get in the mix of winning. If it is not the second, then shut down men's BB and put the money towards football.
There are ton of schools that compete that have nowhere near the resources Nebraska has.

I don't think our basketball program has much of an NIL budget. It seems like we get outbid for every big transfer recruit that visits here. Even the in-state guys like Sallis, Fidler, and Kyle. Or are they willing to take less NIL money to play for more established programs?
Regardless, Fred signed a very mediocre transfer class after a season where he was named National Coach of the year and made the NCAA tournament. So it's hard to imagine being better next year after the disappointing season this year.
Compared to BYU paying 7 million for one incoming freshman? Yeah I would say there's no way in hell we measure up to that. We had some inexplicable losses this past season but I can't blame Fred for Gary going 2 for 8 from the field while throwing up ridiculous prayers trying to draw fouls in the paint. I can't blame Fred for the Homer refs at OSU. IF NU beats OSU in Columbus or Iowa at home, the narrative is different. The question for me is, who we gonna get better than Fred and how much would it cost? Maybe that buyout money would be better spent on players than sacking a guy who I believe is a great fit for Nebraska. We HAVE to get better players IMO and with NIL and our lack of basketball reputation the only way to that is to buy them. No kid in his right mind is going to sign with NU basketball because he's a Nebrasketball or Fred fan.

the players we got in the portal make it pretty clear that we don't measure up. Fred has put guys in the NBA. He has credaribility. What he obviously doesn't have is a large enough NIL budget to get anybody other than middling transfer role players. You can't tell me that any of those transfers would have been sought out by a B1G team in the top 5 in the league. Watching us play it was obvious that other than Brice, our guards sucked. Meah and Berke should have been spot bench players. You seem certain that our NIL game is more than sufficient to win in the B1G but the guys we got versus some of the guys we missed out on say otherwise. We needed a point guard and a big man both of whom could score and we got neither. Blame Fred if you want but I think that's too easy.
I don't think firing Fred helps the program in the long run. It eats up millions of dollars in donor money that maybe could have gone to buying a whole damned team.

I never claimed to know anything about Nebraska's basketball NIL. I've just been asking the people who claim that it's obviously terrible to show me some evidence that this is actually true.

I will be looking closely at averages of new transfers. Doesn’t matter to me what level. You have to have guys who can make shots. Guards are premium in college.
