I think the thing to remember is that brian kalkbrenner means more to the jays. He is their face so they would totally pay him more. Had he left for his 7th year and play somewhere else it would have been a slap in the face to CU.

I don’t think anyone here knows what any school’s NIL situation is and it’s kind of dumb to speculate 🤷‍♂️

Everyone thinks you can get a NCAA tourney team immediately but is clueless about how difficult it is to get the players. Very sad.

Reported Nebraska spent nearly seven figures on Berke. If they did, that was a horrible investment.
Not sure I believe that, but I'm guessing he got a decent payday.

I still think Berke has some upside. But last spring when I said he was a project whose offensive game needed a lot of work, you would have thought I pushed Fred's grandmother down a flight of stairs.

I'm no Hawkeye fan, but glad they are on the verge of bursting the Entitled Ones' bubble after that screw job NU endured in Columbus.

I don't think he received seven figures but it was probably somewhere in the high six's. We nudged out BYU at the eleventh hour because they had already spent most of their budget nailing down their top international targets. We had some money left because we couldn't compete with the targets higher on our board that we lost out on. Pretty much all of them at that point.

High 6 figures? What a joke. How much does it cost to get a decent player because he isn’t one.

Kalkbrenner is already a senior?

Man how time flies. 😎

Jays asst coaches leaving. IU might have finally got far enough down the list to call McDonks.

Miller's leaving for a head coaching job, so I don't think that's much of a tell.

I'm admittedly biased, but I think McDermott would be out of his mind to take the Indiana job. Those upper-tier Big East jobs are among the sweetest gigs in college basketball. You're the biggest deal in town, great TV package, decent but not brutal schedule, and the conference isn't really subject to poaching or breakups because there's (almost) no football involved.

The money would be better, but McDermott would be under a microscope at IU. In Omaha, the media love him.

Why would assistant coaches leave? If that was the case. Would some of them go with? The only one I see leaving is becoming a HC

Walked by a television on my way to lunch and saw the Indiana-Oregon game on - two teams Nebraska beat. It just pissed me off…what an epic choke by NU hoops this year.

Asst coaches USUALLY have to travel around a lot, so maybe that guy wanted to grab his HC gig when he could.

I agree, he currently has a job with no pressure and zero expectations.

IU is the exact opposite of that.

I think NCSTATE is going to get Will Wade. Nice hire!

NU should have went after him.

If we’re sticking with Fred, and by all accounts we are, I want to see the athletic department make a tangible financial commitment to basketball. Not an another premature contract extension for coaches, not some sort of vague undefined lip service to ease fans, an actual plan that people can understand and get on board with. Have a plan, explain it in plain and simple terms, then publicize it and execute it.

If the plan is the status quo, when everyone knows Fred is gonna have to rebuild an entire roster, (again) with no promises of a strategic logistical financial commitment above the current status… **** THAT! Let someone new rebuild this roster and start fresh. Quit being satisfied with losing mother fvckers!

He got a head coaching gig. Are you asking why an AC would leave for a HC job or just taking shots at creighton without understanding what the actual situation is?

Yah, I don’t think they’ve ever done that for any sport and won’t start now.

Yah, I don’t think they’ve ever done that for any sport and won’t start now.

Wat? We’ve made tangible financial and logistical commitments and/or actions to support Football and Volleyball. Facilities, Public donations, Established collectives, University sanctioned events (volleyball in memorial stadium, the event formerly known as the spring game, high profile camp events for football, facility tours) and gave out NIL deals that put volleyball players and football players in local ads.

We’ve done almost none of that for men’s basketball and it’s fvcking criminal. Have we had any basketball player in local commercials and supported like our football and volleyball players? (maybe Tominaga? IDK) Answer is pretty much nobody. Now, much of this **** falls on our high dollar donors, I don’t think most of them care about basketball. They don’t put the screws to the administration, they don’t care and frankly, they’re fvcking stupid. They’ve never seen or paid attention to what a quality basketball program brings to a university, and to them personally as fans. It’s really unfortunate that they’re totally ignorant to what a good basketball program does for a university and athletic department. Would make the publicity and revenue we get from volleyball look like pocket change… 😞

Creighton playing like they took a redeye Greyhound bus to New York.

This is Creighton’s M.O. in Madison square garden. They somehow finish in the top 3 of the conference every season then go to the Big East tournament and get ***** slapped back to Omaha…

Yeah but usually against a decent team in the semis. If they were playing a good team today, Jays would be down by 30.

or a team whose coach has one foot out the door?
Eh, I think McDermott knows he has a sweet deal in Omaha. Any talk of him leaving is probably just for leverage.

When you can still play Mason Freaking Miller and nobody criticizes you - stay put. You have a good gig.

Depends if he thinks he can make a Final Four at Creighton in this new NIL era. He's 60 years old now and never made a Final Four. Indiana Basketball supposedly has one of the biggest NIL budgets in the country. He also loses Kalkbrenner, Ashworth, and Neal after this season.

Zero expectations for McDermott? Come on. There are expectations of a finish in the upper part of Big East and a ncaa tourney appearance. If they went a couple of seasons without that the heat would be on.
