Bucks took Thon Maker with the 10th pick, Montgomery's not that bad at the same point. So yeah, i could see him staying in the draft..

I could too, and the reality of interlocking that thought with a real potential is why I've become fatigued with UK's postseason exodus system.

A kid who averaged 4 and 4 is "Testing the waters."

And we know he's not the first. See Orton, Gabriel, Humphries and Vanderbilt.

Those guys all made good decisions. EJ will too.

This is getting ridiculous. Even the players that are not even good enough to log significant minutes want out the door. Cal is a couple of titles away from having a fringe NBA draft pick or two come back and try to up their stock. I can see a player guaranteed 1-20 leaving, but we have players leave that are not even on the NBA radar.
Who said EJ was leaving? This is what he should do. He’ll be back. Nothing wrong with getting the evaluation. Not sure how people don’t understand this process.

What will all these company men that say “he’s not going anywhere but he’d be stupid not to do this” going to say if he actually keeps his name in the draft?
What are all the nervous nellies going to say when he does come back? Smart move on his part to test it out and get some feedback

You all said the same thing about Orten.

Literally no one said the same things about Daniel Orton. We said we expected him to go because he had knees made of peanut brittle and needed to get paid as soon as he could, while he could.

He went first round. He tore his knee up again in the second game of his rookie season with the Magic G-League team. He played four total seasons in the NBA. If he had come back, he'd have been undrafted and barely made a dime.

No offense. Four and four is like a guy with D minus average taking the GRE after his freshman year.

Duke, Arizona, Kansas. Basically the only schools recruiting the way we are.

Those other schools guys aren't losing anywhere close a dozen guys to the last first through 2nd round of the draft before their junior year: Briscoe, Humphries, Vanderbilt, Orton, Teague, Goodwin, Lamb, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Dakari Johnson, Gabriel, Diallo, Ulis, Skal,

UK's on another level when it comes to losing 3rd and 4th tier NBA guys. Some of it is due to our high level of recruiting. Some of it is due to many of the kids we're recruiting seeing it as almost unfathomable to stay beyond the one or two year mark.

That said, EJ will likely be back.

Oddly enough it's probably a better move for EJ than it is for Keldon. Neither will make an NBA roster next year but the level of patience for a 6'11" guy to develop is a lot higher than it is for a 6'5" guard. Just to be clear neither should go and both will probably hurt themselves in the long run but EJ has a better shot than Keldon. Just not a lot of skilled 6'11" guys.

Keldon won’t make an NBA roster next year despite going near or right outside the lottery lol?

Wanna make a friendly wager?

Our program is literally stuck in no mans land at this point. We aren’t getting the very top players anymore and the second tier guys we are getting are still leaving after a year and not giving us much in return. On top of that we still can’t hold on to our role players like Baker. Cal really needs to readjust his philosophy on how he builds his roster.

Read that first paragraph and realize the ridiculously specific framework you just created in order to slant it as a negative. That's not a discussion worth having.

I remember a lot of people laughing at Skal entering. Worked out for him. They draft on potential. All he needs is one team to guarantee they'll draft him in the 1st round, and he gone!

Why are people freaking out? Cal encourages ALL players to go to the Combine and get evaluated.

I like you Frank but you have been around here enough to know it’s their nature, daily hating on UK players and coaches. It’s the norm around here and it’s the same people everyday.

He is using the process before him, there is no problem with that.

And if he gets a 1st round pick and becomes a guaranteed millionaire, GOOD FOR HIM!!!!

Why people get so jealous of these kids pursuing their dreams year after year is a mystery. By now it is no secret the NBA knows UK prepares kids better than anyone else for the league. They draft our role players because we get the best of the best and develop them better than the rest.

I love how your mighty “everything Is great with our lifetime coach” crowd is dwindling day by day. Have fun!

Who is dwindling? Every year at this time, the most negative posters come out in full force and take over the board. There are no basketball games to win, so there’s nothing to shut them up, other than the occasional commitment.

Anyone with any sense stays clear of this place for a couple of months. Obviously I don’t have any.

GD chicken littles. Remember when Cal had the whole team declare?

He’s getting feedback to see where he stands and what he needs to work on.

If my hobby got me as worked up and emotional as it gets some of y’all, I’d find a new hobby.

I think it’s because many people believe that he could be a Daniel Ortin type and be drafted at the end of the first round when it seemed silly to think that.

Or becaiuse he will leave his name in regardless. Lie other 2nd rounders have done—Gabriel, Briscoe, Diallo, etc.

And those people lack the information and context needed to have this discussion. Every one of those guys made the right choice. We have no reason to believe EJ wont as well.

I'm not jealous of him.I'm actually worried about our team being able to compete next season without him.We are aleady so thin on our bigs.I know it's crazy to actually worry about having a good team.

Just to get this straight... “no man’s land” is getting within one shot of the Final Four two out of three seasons? Is that how it works?

What would you call it if we were actually struggling?

This is the main reason why you keep recruiting regardless of who is on the roster. You never know who might test and eventually end up leaving for the league. If the current kids don’t like the competition aspect, then might as well forget the league.

Have to admit that was funny.

So is the crowd that refuses to acknowledge the brand here that Cal built has gotten a bit absurd, and making it more diffcult to compete for titles.

The turnover is just ridiculousness. And even if EJ stays at uK Cal is trying to recruit without the recruits or Cal knowing if he will be on the roster next year. Not sure why folks think this is negative.

While this seems to be the case.. it's not 100%. I said earlier grad transfers and reclassifications could be the cause of this. 1 month ago, EJ saw clear playing time as PJ and Reid were gone.. and it appears we weren't getting Hurt or McDaniels.. certainly not both.

Since then, we added Sestina, and we might add Blackshear.

I imagine EJ would have entered his name a while ago if he truly wanted to test the waters. Instead he waits a while..

Players can do this every year if they want to. It isn’t only once.

I think that changed didn't it? Seems like I recall they can declare multiple times as long as they don't sign with an agent and remain in the draft.

I totally missed that change. If that's the case, then I agree that every player who has NBA potential should declare and get feedback.

Oh, I agree we need him and hope he stays. I personally think he will break out next year as a shot blocker and rebounder. He can also pull big men out and open lanes for Hagans, Maxey, and Whitney.

Not crazy to want a good team, and that's not who my comment was aimed at. Mine was aimed at the crowd bashing him and claiming he is making a bad decision.
