He won't be in the first round. He'll be back.

We should expect all the guys that have NBA dreams to at least test the waters. Very surprised Ashton didn't.

Lol Kentucky is not the only school this is happening at.

Kansas had two guys enter the draft that has no business entering the draft . I’m sure there are a lot others too.

I think it’s just the state of college basketball today. Most kids who commit at the top schools all expect to be one and done and then when that doesn’t happen, it’s disappointing. They watch a lot of their friends leave and buy fancy new cars. That has to be a hard pill to swallow because they expected that to be their situation too.

This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve lost a mediocre freshman big to the draft. Skal and Orton were actually worse than EJ, our weakest frontcourt player last season.

I expect EJ to return, unlike those guys, because he lacks any first round projections. I wouldn’t be surprised if he left, though. This is Kentucky.

Yep, surprised they didn’t. EJ is going nowhere.

It’s amazing people still are surprised or upset by this. Have they not been following our program or just need something to complain about today?

Both. Or any other program. It's like they log on to rafters for two hours a day, complain, and then disconnect from the entire world the rest of the time.

Only thing I worry about as far as him coming back is what if he shows out in a few workouts and a team in the late first round decides they want him. If that’s the case, good for him, but that would be a huge blow for next season to be sure.

I’m happy for the young man and hope he gets the feedback he wants to hear. And the straight out of high school rule isn’t going to stop kids from going after one year of college so everyone that gets heated over one and done might as well find another hobby.

You aren't Dan Issel, because Dan Issel knows about college and pro basketball and how the draft process works. You don't. Which means you're out of your lane in this thread.
Turn on your sarcasm meter. Dam, you guys got zero sense of humor.

Yup that’s part of it . Social media doesn’t help either . A lot of these guys are told by folks all over watching their HS mixtapes that they are great because of course everyone looks amazing when just watching highlight reels in High School.

In fact I’m going to put 80% of the blame on social media .

Everyone just relax he will be back as he has the right to go and see what his weakness is. Cal encourages all the players to do this. He will be back.

If he is not invited to the combine, we will not have to wait long, and I don't expect an invite.

It’s a rule. He should take advantage of it. If he doesn’t return, we are going to need to pull a rabbit out of a hat for sure.

Definitely. There's always that 1% of uneasiness, that if he shoots 90% from three on a given day at a workout that a team will tell him what he wants to hear, just to keep him in the draft as a possibility.

But honestly, if EJ Montgomery can convince a team to draft him in the first round in June 2019, he should absolutely take their money and consider himself a magician.

I agree with this, but does he honestly need to go through the process to know his weaknesses? From watching him this past season, he has a lot of upside but pretty much his entire game has weaknesses at this point. I wouldn't think he would need NBA people to tell him that.
