Not us apparently. This is good. Would hate to be a U6, Kansas, Duke, etc like scum bag. Better to lose than cheat.
I get it but those schools are cheating and in Kansas and dukes favor it seems like they are never going to get in trouble or would never get in trouble

DubyaCDubya/BallerCal/CallerBal/Leadbelly/manofmanynames/golfcat70/ibrokeyou hath spoken via yet another retread.

Recruits have always been compensated to go to every college. Yeah, Alabama football could pay more than UAB football, but sure the UAB level players get some $20.00 handshakes instead of $100.00 for example. Everyone cheats, and has a system to make sure they do not get caught. It is the bigtime greedy ones that sometimes have got caught over history, but a very small percentage of cheating gets caught. Personally I couldn't care less about the players getting money the old fashioned way or the NIL way. Good for them.
Players get paid but there has always been money in football because its a lot bigger revenue stream and its more popular across the country.
Where does an SMU situation where big money and fanatical interest exist in the CBB world right now?
Some of these programs are going to write checks that their *** cant cash and some of these kids are going to get a lot less than what they were promised.
NIL will no doubt create a bubble that will burst because the tourney is all that America cares about and attendance is declining even at rhe blue bloods.

He's not opposed to NIL, but way I read it--if you are a Transfer and first thing you mention is NIL, they are passing, which I fully understand. It should be about fit on the court/how you play and then you can eventually get to the NIL part because let's face it-he has a person (TJ Beisner) literally on staff to help the players with NIL-which is part of the recruiting package.

Some of the UK fans takes make 0 sense. You want guys who want to come for "UK" and then the HC says something along those lines and it's **** on? At some point you can't have it all ways.

Was he bragging? Thought he was just saying they'll have a commit coming on board soon. I think many are assuming it's Thiero too. I think Thiero would be a nice addition and type of player that UK should be targeting for end of bench/development role, but now that's being **** on too. The Thiero kid played for same AAU program that had Oscar Tshiebwe, Cam/Puff Johnson of UNC and Nate Sestina, and his Dad actually played for Cal which means he at least knows how things operate and if they say you'll have a chance to compete/role increase over years--likely by '24 season..they'll buy in.
I just think it’s amusing that it seems like it’s CAL that’s changed his narrative. The part where you say “some of the UKfans “ can easily be replaced with “John Calipari “. Its humorous that after years of bastardizing the program, now he wants to play the “its about the University “ card . He such a snake oil salesman.

THIS. Either Cal is the slimiest, smarmy liar of all time or he's been told in no uncertain terms that he is not to be involved in NIL whatsoever.

Do we have boosters that are willing to pony up 800k for one year of Grady?
And do it all over the following year ?

I don’t think we know who or what will happen with NIL. This isn’t just an NCAA debacle. State and federal govs have their hand in this. By definition it is FUBAR.

We are involved in NIL.
Just not grossly overpaying for a kid who's not good enough after 4 years to be a 2nd rnd pick.

NIL and college basketball has passed Cal & Mitch by as they dig their heels in. We've gone from innovators to get off my lawn and back in my day kind of leadership. The fact UK isn't at the front of the line utilizing NIL and a modern day change in philosophy is negligent ast best. There's no more "We eat first or the Gold Standard" those things have literally been ripped out of Cals hands. It's been a clusterfrack at UK the last few years at an increased rate and it's been excuse after excuse.

Things are stale, outdated, and exposed as fraudulent in claiming to be the Gold Standard. Recruits and current players now see that (they have for a while), hence why Cal isn't getting to pick and choose from top players anymore. Whether that's just his philosophy, lack of adjustment in coaching, Nike funneling elsewhere, etc. It doesn't matter, it's been a steady decline for a while and we're nearing peak speed soon. Cal WITH a willingness to change things is still a top 5 option. Cal WITHOUT changes is a mere shell of the old Cal. Same with Mitch, his unwillingness to adapt for the good of the school isn't helping matters at all with NIL & resource growth thru alchohal sales.
IF those changes aren't embraced I'm all for a breath of fresh air @ UK!!!!! Give me Dewayne Peavy & and coach that players what to come play for again, and will RESPECTFULLY embrace the fanbase! Just my 2 cents, blast away......
But the current way of things just isn't cutting it and I hate to watch this decline of our program!

I love how so many bitching don't even understand NIL. They think UK pays for it LOL

I'm not happy about much with our coach but this isn't one of them. You gotta be smart enough to know that if you play basketball at UK and you're good, NIL will take care of itself.

Plus many bitching would be first to say,"I don't want a player here who doesn't wanna play for the jersey, the school" but now you're cool with wanting kids who wanna use us for money?? Makes no sense. Again, not thrilled with Cal. But he can't either way with many folks

That could not be more false. You Brigaders always overplay your hands, and clearly you don't understand the mentality of the UK fan. You out yourselves when you say stupid crap like this.

It doesn't matter WHAT Cal says, you and your ilk will call him a liar or a number of other names. I've been watching this unfold since the loss to SP. There is NOTHING that Cal can say or do that you won't rip him to shreds.

First, Cal never said it’s about anything but the university. Only ones that say that are dumbasses that can’t understand marketing. Second, you are correct, Cal hasn’t changed any narrative. He has played by the rules since he got here. He continues to.

This mentality will help weed out the bad ones. By being on this board, I don't believe anyone else wants another Shaedon Sharpe, right?

I really don't think this will affect us much. The reason being is that the kids that who are talented and knows they got what it takes to go to NBA will not be swayed from "guaranteed NIL" money. They will know that they are good enough and have what it takes to earn NIL.

I believe Cal's thinking to this is exactly what he said. Only the kids that doubt or know their NBA future is bleak, will mainly be the recruits demanding NIL deals. They have to cash in while they can.

Top recruits and top transfers will more than likely not be infatuated with this, nor switch schools over the one that they want over NIL money not being guaranteed.

Edit: This is where the role and stop-gap players come in to play.

No offense but you aren't a UK fan and don't care for the program. We will have 10 players with the Thiero addition.CJ has been hurt every season and if he goes down is this kid ready to replace him? It's safe to say no.Arkansas can add a whole other team but Cal refuses to get enough good players and is the highest paid coach out there.I have had enough.
No offense is such a passive aggressive way to start a commentary. I get it. Don't be passive aggressive. Just say WTF you got to say. It's cool to disagree. My rebuttal is in some cases like this having a more neutral view means emotions don't get involved. Most of the takes the fans have been frustrated with I'm with you 100%. But to **** on some kid and assume that's all the roster is adding or that he's the backup to CJ Fredrick? Wait for the final roster to be put together. There are 60 NBA Draft picks. There are close to 300 players in the NBA Draft right now. Options are still out there, just have to see who entered the Portal--and you can recruit them now while they are in NBA Draft which most fans seem to be ignoring. So they have a better feel for this than we do as observers.

Look at the Arkansas approach. They have gotten guys on their roster and keep recruiting over them. At some point, you are better off holding off then reaching for guys to be 1st. (talking Portal specifically) Most coaches love offseason thinking of "Depth" and in reality depth only helps over course of a season or if you are ballsy enough to go with hot hand during a game your frontline guy is not playing well. It used to be a must because the way the game was played was full court pressure, and you could use more guys/wear teams down. If you don't press, by time March comes around 6/7 guys are going to play and an 8th if you have fouls/injury.

It's about having quality, and this type of guy is coming in to develop and play a role. If he accelerates that, means he's better than expected. Hawkins and Polson were on the court in Final Four for Kentucky as guys who didn't make a recruiting blip to non Kentuckians. Thiero fits that mold and may be better. Trust the background here. Not liking how the program has performed, we're in this together and agree. But shitting on everything because you are angry is not how you fix things. It gets fixed by work and altering things. No program is ever as great/bad as it looks in a given timeframe. This program will be successful as time has proven. Just a matter of how they address it and if that doesn't work, it'll be someone new to lead it.

Destroyed lol. It hasn’t been all roses but you must be too young to remember when the program was actually destroyed. Then there was the Clyde years. Check the hyperbole at the door drama queen.

They are mindless, spineless idiots who just spew hate at everything related to Cal.
That's a hell of an extreme opinion. I find it hard to believe you seriously believe anyone who criticizes Cal is mindless and spineless. Even if I was mindless, which I'm not, I've stuck through many conversations and taken controversial positions where I'm called numerous names and accused of all manner of things, ridiculed and mocked, and I went nowhere. Not what you'd call spineless. And I was completely, unequivocally RIGHT about Sharpe from the beginning, despite YOUR attacks. Not exactly mindless.

Spineless is when you make a claim and then run away without backing it up, like YOU are known to do.

Mindless is when you mock something you don't understand and are proven wrong and continue to double down. Which is what YOU do.

All coaches are like this. Every single one of them. It's why they are laughable when you have any off the court incident. It goes from "I know everything...." to "I wouldn't know what so and so does away from...".

They all have big egos and every coach in any/every sport is king of the offseason. They make these vows/promises. From an outsider point of view and I put my take on record before the Postseason flameout--they made progress but at not point did I think this '22 UK team was nearly as good as national media or the majority of UK fans. So the thing I kept referring to is all this progress will get buried if they flamed out in opening round. Bingo. The recruiting improved but nobody wants to hear that with how Sharpe situation played out, which I get. Only way that is changed is in the miracle/unlikely scenario he returned to Lexington.

This roster in '23 is more talented than the team put on the court in '22. Already. It has some openings to fill too. I think '23 will be a team that advances to 2nd Weekend without seeing a game because I like the talent more. Some additions by subtraction and that's before they finish the roster out.

What I can personally attest to is Calipari is listening to some people he wasn't and some needed changes from their perspective have/are taking place. They also agree with UK fans that if this doesn't work this year....then it'll likely result in a new direction/change for the program.

Nailed it! I will say that Cal's approach was similar to Arkansas' as to recruiting over kids. Cal was doing this pretty regularly year after year, resulting in kids transferring or leaving prematurely for the pros. There is a real thin line on how to do such, but it seems as if Cal has eased back on it because his recruiting has taken a hit from it.

I like this approach. It is a given that if you go to a school like Kentucky or other Blue Blood schools there will be opportunities for NIL deals that will not always be available at other programs. If someone is coming in demanding x amount of $$ to play for you when you are coming from a smaller school thats a risk. Oscar came and took care of business and is going to be rewarded for doing so.
Yeah I actually like that Cal is trying to stand up to the lunacy that is taking place and threatening the very existance of COLLEGE basktball. Its already barely about the universities any more and headed to not at all. Pretty soon the question is . . . what and who are you claiming to be a fan of and why if it has nothing to do with the school or state, just another minor league pass through entity using your facilities for a while..

Then don't watch or follow the program. There's a simple solution. If you really want changes. Just do that. It works. If nobody watches or goes to the games, or cares, then they'll make the changes you personally want.
