While we are pining about the NBA and the Cats , I wish we had a separate forum for the NBA . Not a biggie as I simply skip over most of it but the draft month is like a NBA board here . And yes there are a few who lap it up and use it as salve for disappointing NCAA losses . To me its the opposite , it pisses me off to see the TEAM fail while individuals thrive. But its the system and I try to shake off a bunch of the negative stuff and stay a passionate fan of the college game. I've quit the NFL , MLB and dont really care much about the NBA , dislike golf and soccer .. all I got is the Cats

305 wins.

Just because you're too dumb to connect the dots doesn't mean everyone is.
I was shocked that this guy made this post, shocked I tell you! I was even more shocked that Zaytoven was the only one to like it.

For those that don’t care about the players once they are in the NBA, to me it’s understandable why you’d feel that way, and I believe it’s an unfortunate consequence of Cal’s recruiting model.

It used to be you’d get to know players over 4 years. You’d see them grow, develop and would establish a connection with them between player and fan. You don’t get that anymore when the roster is completely turned over every 1-2 years. I am honestly hoping the one and done goes away, the top players just move on to the draft out of HS, and maybe college basketball can reconnect a little more like it used to.

The NBA is BY FAR the best pro sport . Used to love the NFL but with all the reply crap and the rules it has become NO FUN LEAGUE truly. MLB and my Cubs are 2nd .

And if this truly is a family ( UK basketball) then we should care about what each and every one of our kids do beyond playing here . So I care a lot .

Does it make you a dbag for not caring ? No . But it also means you are missing an important point of being a UK fan which is your right ( the whole BBN thing we call it ).

Can hold any point of view you choose, where this helps is when Cal is gone and the amount of players still in NBA or that make a mark in NBA and make generational $$$$ are still playing, they'll have an allegiance to the program and some will get into coaching/want to come back. As long as successors understand how to operate at a program like UK, it's set them up for success moving far beyond Cal's actual work on sidelines. If they want to break away from what Cal's done in terms of reaching back to past players/teams,embracing/creating some new history for UK then it will be a massive PR mistake, but hard to screw up at a place like Kentucky unless you try. (Billy Gillespie)
Great post. This guy gets it.

The OAD system has sucked the life out of the family atmosphere IMO. We are a stopping point on the way to check the check and the car and the watch. JMHO.
Exactly. Anyone who thinks that the NBA is part of the UK Family, has been bought...hook, line and sinker. I think the thing that really turned me off about this thing is when recruits started claiming UK was their "dream school". Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, .....it's even worse with players BEGGING Calipari to recruit them. It ain't because they want to play for Cal or UK. If I were Cal, I would NEVER be okay with that. If you're good enough to be recruited, we'll know you're there.

I don’t care how harsh you guys are. Just let me know what you think...

Am I a prick for not really caring about what happens to our players after they leave UK?
I rarely follow where they sign, never care how much they get paid and barely watch their games. And I’m not an NBA hater.

Thoughts? There have to be some of you that feel the same.

You’re not a prick or D-bag. I do think it’s fun to support the players afterward they leave, but I also enjoy watching the NBA. I understand not caring if one doesn’t care about the NBA. Just my opinion.

Agree. Cal should only recruit 2/3 star players out of the state of Kentucky who will pledge to stay all four years. Doesn't matter that UK would go 3-30 every year. Just make sure the players that come here actually LOVE the school.

This thread has turned into hot garbage, lol.

You'd have to be a pretty hardcore Kentucky fan and overall basketball fan to care about every single player who played at UK and went on to play professional ball. Definitely not a d-bag for not caring. Lotta UK fans that don't like the NBA for their own reasons, therefore it'd be tough to stay up to speed on what our guys are doing with their professional careers. There are certain guys who have played for us that I keep a genuine interest in following their NBA careers. Wall, Cousins, AD, Fox, Booker to name a few. And some who I'll admit I can absolutely forget about the moment they leave.

I keep up with it. It's a great look and sales pitch for UK when our guys are playing well. Anthony Davis is soon to be THE biggest name in professional basketball.

As for the OP, it doesn't make you any of the words you listed, but it does make you part of the problem. There is a big divide among the fanbase, where one shouldn't exist. The hypocrisy of some fans knows no bounds. You can't complain that the one and done era produces players that don't care, then turn around and state that you don't care about them once they leave. It seems that both sides are "using" the university. The fans only caring about the players when their wants are being satisfied, and the players only caring about the university when their wants are satisfied.

The truth is, this should be a great era of UK basketball, but the shine is dimming mostly due to fans and their complaining. We should celebrate these kids for their contributions to our beloved program. Quit complaining that you don't get to know the kids, if you're not willing to follow them when they leave, because what difference does it make? If you want to know the kids, then continue to follow them. How is your joy gone from watching Kentucky play basketball when they still in fact play basketball. You didn't know the players of the past any better than you know the players today, unless you used to be associated with the team and you no longer are. Maybe you knew a few more facts about them, but you never really knew them.

If you would rather discuss next year's team, then create a thread about it. If you don't care for the NBA associated stuff, then don't post or read those threads. It is simply amazing that the negative threads reach epic proportions, and yet a thread about the team or players themselves will have only a few replies. If you want Kentucky Basketball to be the uniting force it used to be then celebrate all aspects of it, and restrain yourself from posting and talking about the negative points predominately.

There is little question that we get a big boost in recruiting because of Cal's emphasis on the NBA. As much as we might hate to admit it, we cannot "eat first" just from the "Kentucky" name brand only. The current NBA philosophy certainly helps us get big-time recruits. Coupled with tradition, facilities, and our beloved coach, we have a good formula for recruiting and program success.

That said, my personal view is that I like and marvel sometimes at our kids' success, but it doesn't make me want to be a devout fan willing to spend big bucks on tickets, jerseys, hats, etc. In fact, I spend nothing on the NBA, and rarely watch games. It really doesn't interest me nearly as much as college basketball--too many things are much more important once my investment of time watching college basketball is over for the year. So, you are not anywhere close to being a prick in my book. Besides, you are entitled to your own choice without any of us sticking you in one category of person or another. Stick with your plan and your choices.

Yes , not only are you a douche bag and a prick, but I would elevate you a step or two and just anoint you the KING prick !

I follow a few of the NBA Cats but not all. I do find myself checking in on some that left early hoping that they make it somewhere. So many that did not make the NBA still struggle to keep playing.

When did the NBA become an aspect of UK basketball? When I was growing up I knew MANY big-time Cat fans and NONE of them that I am aware of talked about former UK players, and a very small percentage of them were NBA fans. Something apparently changed in the past five years or close to it. I'm all about the college basketball experience.

Has really nothing to do with the NBA being an aspect of UK basketball, but former players are an aspect of UK basketball. The original post said he didnt care about the players after they leave. If that's the way you feel, then you ought to be just fine with the rent-a-player that the one and done has been portrayed as. In short, you dont care about anything that isnt immediately fulfilling your desires. In other words, you are a win at all cost kind of person.

Maybe I'm the odd duck. I enjoy reading about what former players do OUTSIDE of the NBA. I love reading that they have gone onto become coaches, became ministers, doctors, opened up businesses. That sort of thing. I miss the OLD NBA days. Jordan, Bird, etc. When NBA players stayed on their original teams. Just like the old days of baseball. I was looking at the baseball stats reference site the other day, just the MVP's of the World Series teams. We're talking about players on their teams for 10-15-20 years. That was before the mid to late 1990's when juicing became the name of the game. Then, players no longer felt allegiance to their teams. I also miss my old Kentucky teams, the great players who stuck around. Now we're just a rented mule. Our coach has turned us into NBA Scouting University. It's even spilling into high school ball. Kids with their stupid "down to 3 schools" and departure speeches and tweets. When Calipari is gone, our recruiting will take a hit because it isn't about UK anymore. But all of the schools are having this problem. I'll hopefully get yo know our players again, and pray we get a decent coach.

what i find odd is that now more than ever fans are closer to players than ever before with facebook, twitter, instagram, more games, production videos, events/camps, all games televised in glorious HD. they "know" players better than ever before. yet ***** about not knowing players. everything you just wrote is complete ********.

what you dont like is change. but everything changes. all the time. throughout history in every way possible. you are not an odd duck. you are old, life has passed you by, you dont like it, and this is how you vent and cope with your frustration and anger.

I call bullsh**.

Your post history is this thread, a thread where you take shots at Brad Calipari, and one where you complain about Cal missing on top 5 recruits and predict Jalen Green will go to Memphis.

Nothing particularly respectful about any of it. You're a troll, and you deserve no respect.

If you have to ask if you’re a d bag, chances are very high that you’re a d bag.

If you care about our players, you want to see them succeed. If you care about our program, you want to see them succeed.

If you don’t care, it’s a free country...and you’re likely a d bag
