Not a huge NBA fan but, will watch a regular season game every once in a while to watch UK guys play! I watched a lot of the play offs this year with UK players on a lot of the teams! It was fun watching the Nuggets and seeing Murray light em up and hear the announcers talking about how good he was and how UK prepared him! Mark Jackson would say UK this or thank! He showed much respect for UK. It’s good for the school and recruits care about the NBA! Just cause they’re here 9 to 10 mths doesn’t mean they care less about UK! Former players talk UK with other former players on twitter!

Maybe because there are no ballet boards on Rupp Rafters?

That would be U6.

I don’t care how harsh you guys are. Just let me know what you think...

Am I a prick for not really caring about what happens to our players after they leave UK?
I rarely follow where they sign, never care how much they get paid and barely watch their games. And I’m not an NBA hater.

Thoughts? There have to be some of you that feel the same.
Is it only the NBA? Or do you also not care what "our" players do once reaching the NFL, MLB, PGA ect?

A prick? No, but I think you are not a typical KY fan. Very common for many fans to follow former players from the last buzzer to the grave.

I think you're a d bag if

1. You don't care what happens after they leave
AND
2. You think they should factor in fans' desires when planning their future (e.g. return to school for any reason other than personally wanting to)

I get it if it's a libertarian thing where you don't care what they do as long as they play well while they're here.

I also get it if you're super invested and heart broken if they leave.

Back in the early to mid 90's, I did care. I loved the NBA from the late 80's to the mid 90's. I couldn't wait to watch the draft. I became somewhat of a Mavs fan when they drafted Mashburn. I checked the box scores everyday in the paper to see how he did.
This. I really liked the 80s, early 90s NBA but now I could care less about any of it including our guys.

Great question. I have very few guys that I have really followed closely after they were gone. Tim Couch, Randall Cobb, Anthony Davis for a year or two, Jamal Mashburn.

I like the NBA as a whole more than college basketball so I keep up with them and hope they succeed .

I don’t think it makes you a douchebag if you don’t keep up with it.

I couldn't tell you the last time I watched more than 2 minutes of an NBA game. I always hope the UK guys make it but I really can't tell you how each are doing.

@~Keyser Soze~

You care more about what others say, think, and do on this board than a healthy person should. You do the exact same thing you’re accusing the OP of. You can’t just ignore a thread you’re not interested in; you have to pull it up and sift through, looking for ways to make sure OP knows they’re wrong, or an idiot.

Also, I always attach a mental image to a poster, you know, of who they would be and what they would be like......here is you.......

EDIT - I don’t mean for this to be an attack, I actually enjoy reading your posts for the most part; just thought it was funny what you were accusing in this one.

I dont follow the NBA until playoff time. I dont follow the NFL until playoff time.......... but I follow both sports in college so I dont really give much of a crap what our guys do after leaving in either sport.
I think this is how most people feel about pro sports. Imho this is a generational thing, younger fans are more pro oriented and older is the opposite. College sports will always be number 1 for me.

I care about them about as much as they do me. I’m Interviewing for another position this week. I don’t imagine they give a crap and I don’t give a crap about them.

I follow the team because I always have and it helps make surviving the winter easier.

I don’t know if this answers your question though, a lot of people consider me a douchebag.

I care a lot less the past few years.

I thought for a long time that having a lot of NBA players would help recruiting. The last few years, I've come around to the idea that our NBA players don't well isn't the major factor I wanted.

Davis and Towns are two of the best bigs in the NBA. We still lose big men to Memphis, Duke, etc.

You should care if your a UK fan, here’s why.
The NBA is heading in the direction of being a Ky dominant league. This is without an NBA team in our state and we still dominate both NBA and college. These former players are still BBN and you know for a fact you’d shart your pants if you seen Anthony Davis out in public lol.
You can say you don’t care, doesn’t make you a Dbag but makes you look stupid.

I want the UK guys to do well, but I hope a UK player misses every shot they take against the Celtics. I follow the NBA a decent amount so I keep up with them a little but I don’t follow every single one.

Having the guys do well in the NBA is huge for recruiting. The better they do the easier it’ll be for Cal to recruit. One reason Cal promotes these guys so much is that it’s in part a recruiting pitch. Of course he genuinely cares about them and his family but he’s also saying to recruits “look how well our guys are doing.” Whether you care about the NBA guys or not is your prerogative, but their success is undeniably good for UK. I’d even argue it’s extremely important for the UK guys to do well in the pros.

I wish them well but chances are I will never see them play another minute of basketball once they take off the UK jersey for good. I am not interested in pro basketball.

I am a lot like this. The only time I watch the NBA is in the play offs and if a former UK player is not on any of the teams I just don't watch.

If you just think it, no you're not a douche
If you say it, well, you may be a douche
If you say it repeatedly or loudly, you're a douche

Yes you are. For example, you don’t care about MKG’s support of the Special Olympics, that’s on you.

I always care about our former players after they leave. I may not obsessively follow their stats or compulsively watch every moment. But I like to see how they are doing and how they are playing. It's fun to watch here and there.

I mean if you don't care about them at all after the take off the jersey, yeah, that's a little d-bagish. Like when Cousins got hurt- I hope you cared a little bit. That's one of our guys man. Guys we sweated with watching every tourney game. Maybe even got a little misty eyed when they left. Or worried about when their game was a little off.

Doesn't mean you have to call them at 4 am asking how they are, but not caring in the least is a little selfish and myopic.

I don't care much about their NBA status myself, only that they are making it to help recruiting, but some do, KSR devotes half their website to who scored what for who. I never read it.

Hate the NBA. Don’t care if the entire UK roster gets drafted. It’s ruined College BB and I could give two **its about 5 star BS.

Great thread. I don't follow the NBA much. Does Dave Bing still play for the Pistons?
