I don't follow the NBA, I could care less, it's hard to get attached when they are only here for a year. I wish the players that played here well, but the only way I ever hear about any of them is on here.

This thread is another reason why I’ve said the NBA isnt all that popular, and when certain NBA fans try and counter that, they try and prove it is by the money involved and Twitter.

Yes, Twitter.

The NBA isn’t that popular at all. Go out in your cities and towns and track down how many die hard NBA fans there are, you’ll be looking a long time to make a list. There’s an NBA team an hour away from me, I know a few people who care slightly, but 95% couldn’t care less. The NBA is a time passer and something to take kids to. It’s all money now, the game itself is an after thought.

Over time the league will come down to earth. It’s inevitable, the interest really isn’t there and the players attitudes today just turn people off. Now we’ve got guys like Durant just jumping from team to team, Joining with guys he can’t beat, Lebron jumping around trying to buy a title. It’s just not entertaining and in time it’s going to show.

So no, you’re not a douche. The NBA largely sucks. I want UK players to represent UK and do well. I like that we have so many great pros.

I’ve also noticed a theme with certain people on this board. It’s usually The same 3 or 4 posters who constantly make NBA threads. Most of the others just read reports and regurgitate it here to sound smart. But they know in reality they’re rarely ever at an NBA arena, or watching an NBA game. I’d guarantee it.

The NBA is awful and the worst of the pro sports to watch. Basketball, in general, has become a bad product. The NBA though, is a giant circus with Rhianna music playing while guys decide to go iso, walk it up the court and play half-*** defense in a sport that has hardly had any parity.

We have a huge portion of our fan base that’s super brainwashed, so brainwashed that they eat up whatever Cal says and discard their own interest as a fan so some guy can bounce less than a year and get rich.

I could not care less if a UK player gets drafted or not. The NBA sucks donkey balls, so once they leave UK, I never watch them again.

I don’t care how harsh you guys are. Just let me know what you think...

Am I a prick for not really caring about what happens to our players after they leave UK?
I rarely follow where they sign, never care how much they get paid and barely watch their games. And I’m not an NBA hater.

Thoughts? There have to be some of you that feel the same.
No, you are a college basketball fan. I actually wondered yesterday how many of these posting NBA threads would actually be UK fans if our players weren't in the NBA. I also suspect that some of the NBA posts are in jest, making a mockery (deservedly so) of the whole one-and-done thing that in MY eyes has destroyed college basketball.

Not at all. A lot of fans felt and said the same thing before Cal. Now they tow the company line with all the players first and nba crap. Admittedly I keep up with a lot of our guys in the league but UK’s success comes first. The whole players first line is just more pc bull crap.

The NBA with their TV network, worldwide popularity, and $24 billion dollar TV deal are barely hanging on. Players in the struggling league may have to find second jobs to make ends meet.

I don't like pro sports of any kind, watching a bunch of millionaires running up and down a field or court is not something I care to do. And if a pro is popular enough, he may feel the need to tell everyone what to think, say or do. LeBron James can kiss my azz.

wouldn't say a D-Bag. Maybe embarrassingly self-important to think that anyone cares in the slightest how you feel about the NBA or Kentucky players once they leave Lexington. But that's not a D-Bag level sin.
Did I wake up in a parallel universe this morning or is the SOLE reason this board exists-and we pay whatever money it costs to be able to post-is for us to be able to express our differing opinions about Kentucky basketball?

Nobody cares what I think either, but since someone presumably cashed a check that I paid to express my opinion on this board, and my account is still active, here goes. I DO watch some pro ball...especially around play off time. There are some players, some UK, some not, that I think are amazing and fascinate me with their skill and athletic talent. Sadly for me, something has slowly started to die in my once feverish adoration of UK basketball. I wish I could get it back, because my love for UK hoops has been one of the great constants of my entire life-childhood and adult-and I miss that passion.

The indisputable fact is UK has become a pit stop on the fast track to the pros, where the players stop for the briefest time possible. Precious little of it has to do with the state of Kentucky, or the University of Kentucky, and nearly all the focus is on recruiting, draft status, players in the NBA, who is going to go pro and other things about which I don't care very much. In fact, we are reminded constantly that the players come here for Cal and getting to the league as fast as possible. That's our market niche, right? Succeed and proceed!

Anyway, that's my opinion, that I'll concede no cares about, and inflates my sense of self importance for expressing. Hopefully I won't get banned any time soon, and Rivals will still keep cashing that check!

Count me in the " dont really care" crowd .. yeah I watch a few playoff games , Man can only steam Netflix so long . But some attachment to an NBA team because any Ky play there ? nah'. .. I cant even keep up with where they are . I wish them the best but no matter how well they do no kid is coming to Ky because of what Cats make the All star team. It looks good , but in todays world its more specific than that .. you have to be the right piece of the puzzle on that years squad or simply look elsewhere . If we already have a OAD PG then no other PG is going to sign at UK . No matter how many Cats light it up in the league .
Lastly their whiny self entitled attitudes just turn me off . Too many extremely average guys getting 10-20 million bucks to be average.

I don't know you personally, so I can't comment on the douche question. But you don't have a responsibility or an obligation to track the players after they leave.

That being said, I love to follow our players in the NBA. Since I don't have a favorite team, I follow our players and take pride in their accomplishments after they leave UK. It's fun to watch how successful they have become, most in one year at UK, under Cal's tutelage.

Yes. Exactly. God, you're really on a roll of spectacular idiocy in this thread. How in God's name can you be an expert on something you don't follow and don't like? Is it magic?

You should probably quit at 23.

I won't stoop to your level, but let me clarify: someone doesn't have to be a rabid fan of the NBA, to the point of creating thread after thread about it in a college basketball forum, in order to have a valid opinion on the matter.

No, not at all. Some people just don’t care for the NBA and that’s fine. Personally I’ve gotten MORE into the NBA since Cal arrived.
I think it’s fun watching/ following our former players.

The only “D-bag” part comes in when you have posters throwing temper tantrums on here when the guys who are 1st round guarantees declare for the draft etc.

I occasionally check to see how they did if I didn’t get to watch their game. I want them all to do good personally. Sometimes I don’t want their team to but I hope our former players all score 100

Exactly. ConRay9's post early in this thread sums it up best. It's perfectly fine if you don't follow the NBA, and don't pay attention to how former UK players fare as pros. Nothing inherently douche about that. It becomes douche when you chide the people who do pay attention to those things. Or if you try to use every conversation about ex-UK players and the NBA as a platform to declare how much you hate the league and how it sucks so much.

I'm addressing the person who said that people who never watch the NBA chime in on the matter. One doesn't need to watch the WWF to know that it's fake. There are some good writers on this site. I'm not one of them. Having said that, why aren't those who are capable of creating threads about the Cats that are ON THE TEAM, doing so? Why are they creating so many NBA posts on a UK basketball forum? Are there a large number of NBA forums out there? Could it be that there really isn't much information by about the team? If so, whose fault would that be?

You must not like any form of entertainment because entertainers are all wealthy. TV, movies, music, your favorite Fox News host, they're all highly compensated.
What is wrong with our world where those who have the ability to make real, positive change in the world, are not highly compensated for doing so?

Because you are paid according to your economic value to the market. That's how a free market economy works. If you want be highly compensated, bring more economic value to the market. Being one of close to 400 employees in a $10 billion a year industry is a good start.

Why are you mad at them for benefiting from a system that you support? Would it be better if the billionaire owners kept more of the money instead of the athletes who generate the revenue?

Did I say anywhere that I'm angry? I understand what a free market is. I'm only speaking from my angle, my questions should be interpreted as such. Peace.
