I point to schools like Texas Tech and Indiana as perennial losers who have now become playoff teams and even National Champions. Historical relevence goes back about 3 years nowadays. Unless you have unlimited sums of money, you better win at a high level every year if you want to stay in contention for the playoffs.
This is why Franklin had to go. He took a team with a great chance at winning a National Championship and made them a loser. If there wasn't a change, he would have set this program back a decade based on the 2025 results.
I don't think it is "that easy" for so-called perennial losers to jump to the head of the line - that said, Texas tech and Indiana are interesting case studies (as you point out).
If your contention is true (and I think it is at least partially true) I think the far more interesting thing is this:
This "new paradigm", if your contention is correct, was CREATED by exactly those schools who benefited from the "old paradigm" (ie the Traditional Powers, in short the Big Ten and SEC bigwigs, and a few others), They created this current mess through repeated and very intentional actions on their part - that they somehow thought would all benefit their quest for power and ego (and $).
They ARE NOT innocent bystanders in this thing - they certainly are not righteous "victims". They CREATED it. Through intentional and deliberate actions. Even though a 14 year old could see where it would all lead.
And now have the audacity to be asking other entities (including the Federal Government????) to save them from themselves, but just not in any way that usurps their personal self-interests.
It is hilarious, in a sad sort of way.
That is at least a bit of comic relief to be had, in light of the destruction of college sports, and this head-long race to be the winner in the MADD race (which most sports fans find to be not so funny)
