People in Germany apoplectic over BMW threatening to cripple their cars speed is they dont start using battery more. This is what the heavy handers want AI for.

  • BMW proposes punishing PHEV owners who don’t regularly charge their vehicles.
  • Possible measures include reducing engine power if batteries aren’t routinely charged.
  • The plan aims to boost BMW’s carbon credits, raising privacy and customer control concerns.

They could just get a different car. If they don’t generate carbon credits, then BMW has to buy them. I’d imagine the PHEV sales price is probably discounted.

The amount of crow that should be eaten from some this thread is breathtaking:

The article says these robotaxi all have human monitors in them.

Why did you put the TKR jinx on it?

1. Not a robotaxi and

2. I wonder if you read the link you posted.

“Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's head of AI, responded to Musk's post on X, claiming the self-driving mode was manually overridden.

"Yup. In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area. They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash," he posted.”

1. Is robotaxi using different software?

2. Not surprised they denied it. Have they ever come out and said it was their fault?

1. Yes. Depending on the year, which hasn’t been reported, different hardware too.

2. Pretty easy to deny in a case where the accelerator was pushed to 100%.

Funny that you post an article like this trying to detract from robotaxi when in this case if it was a robotaxi and not a human/model 3, this accident doesn’t happen. Poor woman/family, I hope they win the legitimate part of the suit against the driver at fault.

Does Waymo still use Lidar? Didn’t they just get cited for being safer than drivers?
They do, but they’re also geofenced. And yes, plenty of data showing they’re safer than humans. It’s pretty obvious all forms of self driving will end up being safer, regardless of the system used.

Isn’t all FSD geofenced? I think Waymo is the only one that truly operates full driverless.

Poor labeling here which Tesla has been criticized for. Tesla’s FSD is supervised but not geo fenced. All of the driverless options (Waymo, Tesla, zook) are all level 4- driverless and geo fenced. No one has achieved level 5, which would remove fencing.

I’m at about 90% self driving now. You can see it being safer relative to following distance, lane changes, etc. There’s times I have to fight the urge to make a move to save me an unnecessary 3 seconds. It’s becoming less of an issue with experience and age.

Talked to a guy I know a couple of months ago who has a Model 3 and lives in NJ. He told me he's >90% self driving, which kind of shocked me. In fact, he says he rarely has to take the wheel and he's not the type to exaggerate so I tend to believe him. I figured with NJ traffic and congestion that would be pretty much impossible. Guess not.

I actually think in traffic/congestion is where it’s at its best. I use it in California freeway traffic mostly with no issue

I'm on the waiting list for a Rivian R2. Tentative order date of Nov 2026 - Feb 2027. I didn't think I was interested in autonomous driving, but might be rethinking it. I thought it needed to be on a road with lines -- not necessarily a highway, but even if it had a line down the middle. Is that true? I really don't do much highway driving.

That’s how Rivian’s system works- only on roads with painted lines and it is essentially a lane guide. It won’t slow down/speed up, make turns, etc.
