Get real . I dont want Cal tanking a kids draft status .. we are talking Nick Richards , he has no draft status .

So then what are you asking for? For Cal to come out and make you feel better that a kid went pro?

We're all smart enough to know he's not telling Nick Richards to leave for the draft. You think he needs to publicly distance himself from the kid's decision? That's something Rick Pitino would do.

Nick is so far behind in terms of instincts that I’m not sure he can improve enough to get a guaranteed contract in one or two more years at Kentucky. He might benefit more than most from spending a year or two only worrying about basketball and being coached/trained a greater amount of time than is allowed in college. Something to consider.

fair points . Its ( the process ) kinda silly . but if the NBA is going to offer it up then whatever .. maybe we should forget the phrase " going pro early " because it no longer means what it used to mean . And in this case and hopefully EJ's they are actually going anywhere at all. I like the two guys , we need them

I agree. But there's no way all these teams/agents are paying all this money and going through the process if it isn't beneficial to them, and no way these kids are traveling all over and getting picked apart if it isn't helping them too.

Besides, it's April. They aren't missing anything. We've seen it help guys like PJ, maybe the tough love will be good for EJ and Nick too, because we're going to need them to be a lot better than they were.

You may be right here. Sadly.

Jk. I’m sure he’ll be back. No harm in seeing where you stand.

After the combine is when the teams invite players for individual workouts, correct? If so, I'm guessing he won't be invited to any, which will be all he needs to know. Any other feedback would probably be relayed through Cal. Just guessing.

I don't know that he'll be invited to the combine. ~60 players get invited. There are at least 147 NCAA non-seniors and 53 international players who have declared for the draft along with obviously all graduating seniors being eligible.

edit: 53 not 535 international guys

Think the pro's might tell him something undiscovered ? That Cal isnt telling him ? Wonder if he can self reflect why he doesnt get to play too much ?
I don't know if it is necessarily about wanting to hear something undiscovered. It's probably more about hearing the same advice from someone different. You know that NBA scout's are evaluating your game from the standpoint of someone they want on their team. While a college coach might have mixed motivations in the advice they are giving you.

Nick: "OK, so what do I need to work on to make the pros?"

Scout: "Let's start with not looking like a scared 13 yr old boy trying to unlatch a bra for the first time when you rebound."
It's a wonder ANY kids ever come to UK with crap like that waiting for them.

Which makes me curious about who pays the expenses for all these kids to fly here and there to go thru a process that they should already know, IF our coaching staff is being honest with them.

Who is paying all these expenses?

It does not cost Richards anything to go and get information from the NBA. He will be back. Maybe they can give him some info on how to catch the ball.

LBIB, when they look like toy cars but aren’t, that’s when you know......
Since that’s what it takes to impress these guys, I think We should get about 6-8 cars and lease them to our athletes and, of course, students too. We don’t want to violate any rules....nothing UNC hasn’t done if you recall “wheels for Heels”.

Idk man. NBA is different. Diallo sucked more games here than he had good games. And he was playing REAL well for OKC before injuries got the best of him. Just a different game
I watch about 60 OKC games a year. He wasn’t playing “real well”. He was OK. Serviceable. He was their 4th or 5th wing. Come in, play D, run the floor, crash glass. He was fine, but not close to a starter.

Seriously doubt all these kids get a "quality" evaluation.
Too many kids to spend a lot of time on.
I'd say a scout who attended the UK combine will just reiterate some of his notes and convey it the the undergrad advisory board and they will convey it to Cal.
Much Ado about nothing.

That’s the most bad *** thing I’ve heard you say!!

We can call it educational, ya know, learn about auto tech and maybe come up with some credits for it.

As serious a question as I can work up , Just what doesnt Nick know ? What feedback does he need ? Do you need a pro rep' to tell you something Cal has to be telling him ? There is a TON of people here who say Cal doesnt push kids out the door , has he ever made a statement on a player like Nick or EJ and stated " I told them they are not in position to do this but the player decided to enter the process even though I told them differently " ? or something to that effect ?

I completely understand why Nick and EJ would put their names in. It’s about building relationships. While I was in college, I went to career fairs and talked to future employers about what my resume needed and what areas I needed to focus in, even though I wasn’t prepared to get a job without my degree. Sure, I had professors who could have told me and had worked in the highest levels of the field but I still wanted to build relationships with future employers.

Someone at UK ahead been botching these announcements hard. First the pointless misleading language that KJ and TH might return, then releasing one of them AFTER the deadline. Why do this?

On nicks side it makes sense.

I think hagans and Quick should done this as well but I guess they didn't feel like it . I have no concerns as neither EJ or Richards have any chance of being drafted at this time.

I get that he's likely not going to stay in the draft, but is this even necessary at this point for Nick? He needs the NBA to tell him what he needs to work on? Really?

EDIT: I see this question has been asked by others.

It doesn't hurt anyone for him to do this. Nobody, including Nick Richards, thinks anyone is going to tell him he's ready for the NBA and that he should come out to be one of 60 draft picks.

Sure just like Briscoe, Gabriele, Vanderbilt...
Briscoe did return. LMAO . Also Gabriel was a completely different scenario. He needed money . Vanderbilt was injured . Better names to mention are PJ , Briscoe ( who did come back after testing the waters ) Diallo , and others . But these rules have been around only recently so there isn't much president. If you aren't going to be drafted like EJ and richards 90% you come back. Just common sense. ALL players should do this . Hell Hagans and Quickley should of IMO .

Now you have opened up an entire new concept. We call the class “Learning to live with means”. Homework included baller cars, weeks in million dollar apts. we owe it to these kids to teach them what it’s going to be like when they make it so it’s not such a shock to them. Other potential clases:
-Managing and maintaining the appropriate inner circle (posse 101).
- the Don’ts and dont’s of loaning money to friends and relatives
-pubic relations (gold-digger and ho mgt 301)
