No mention of what he needs to hear in order to stay in, unlike EJ who said he would remain in the draft only if he hears he would be a first round pick. I don’t think Nick returns. EJ will return.

As serious a question as I can work up , Just what doesnt Nick know ? What feedback does he need ? Do you need a pro rep' to tell you something Cal has to be telling him ? There is a TON of people here who say Cal doesnt push kids out the door , has he ever made a statement on a player like Nick or EJ and stated " I told them they are not in position to do this but the player decided to enter the process even though I told them differently " ? or something to that effect ?

Any kid that dreams of playing beyond college should enter their name, go through the process and get feedback. If he improves on what’s highlighted as his weaknesses, his chances of landing on a team in next years draft will improve. The risk is that NBA teams highlight your weaknesses and you don’t improve!

Think the pro's might tell him something undiscovered ? That Cal isnt telling him ? Wonder if he can self reflect why he doesnt get to play too much ?

Why would Cal embarrass a kid like that?

This kid doesn’t need to enter the draft, even if he is just wanting feedback. That’s Cal’s job.

He is never going to throw a player under the bus like that

to be truthful ? He had no problem roasting Tyler after the arkansas game to the press , true ? Are the athletes so thin skinned you cant tell a guy who averages 4 and 3 that he might not be pro ready ? Same guy that couldnt even get in the game in the NCAAT
I just think it may be equivalent to saying, I told Nick he isn't any good but he is too dumb to listen to me...

What's the deadline to return? I don't love that guys like EJ and Richards could be causing recruits and transfers to look elsewhere.

Good for them to go see what it's all about;. But we have a team to fill. And if those two are seriously thinking of going to the draft, Cal needs to call McDaniels now and tell him he has 30+mpg and all the rebounds and touches he could want.

Idk man. NBA is different. Diallo sucked more games here than he had good games. And he was playing REAL well for OKC before injuries got the best of him. Just a different game

Are you asking if Cal has ever publicly embarrassed a kid and tanked his draft stock when it was already too late for the kid to come back anyway? Surprisingly, no, I don't remember him doing that.

But Cal has said that he gives guys advice and sometimes they list and sometimes they don't. He's not going to call anyone out in particular, but he does tell guys they should return. It was reported from Knox's dad that he told Kevin Knox another year would do him good last year.

I wouldnt want or expect Cal saying terrible things about any player . Why not something simple and not degrading or embarrassing like " I talked to Nick , I told him he wasnt on any draft boards at this time but many loved his potential and that he should address his weaknesss's and return to college for another year"

With all the exposure that the Cats have to NBA scouts during the year, what assessment do guys have access to by declaring that they wouldn’t have access to otherwise?

Get real . I dont want Cal tanking a kids draft status .. we are talking Nick Richards , he has no draft status .

This is actually good news. It was either this or enter the transfer portal. This indicates to me he has every intention of returning.

As for why do it - are people forgetting how important going through this was in improving PJ's game? Nick and EJ may not get the same opportunities to participate in the process that PJ did, but it certainly helped him understand what he needed to do.

A different set of eyes in a different setting. A new voice besides Cal's telling them what they need to work on. Someone who can afford to be more harsh with them. Plus they get to meet, talk, interview with, etc. people in NBA front offices. That builds connections, relationships, etc.

Then, you're more prepared next year to go through the process. Getting a free trial run at a job interview is beneficial in any field.

Given the rules it makes perfect sense. You get evaluated by the people you need to impress next year and you start building some relationships out there. As long as he can stay away from agents who destroy his options it will be a good thing for him.

I don't know why Nick wanted feedback from the NBA, when we all could have told him what he needed to do, just kidding. I guess if I were a player I would want to know even if I thought I already knew.

fair points . Its ( the process ) kinda silly . but if the NBA is going to offer it up then whatever .. maybe we should forget the phrase " going pro early " because it no longer means what it used to mean . And in this case and hopefully EJ's they are actually going anywhere at all. I like the two guys , we need them
