Indiana is a top five job if you are winning. Not even Kentucky loves basketball as much as Indiana does. They have a pro team. We don't. They have four major programs. We have two. Their high school blows ours away. Not saying these things because I like Indiana. Saying them because they are true. Get the right guy and they'll be a thorn in our side.
I get what your saying but the problem with that arguement is any school can be a top 5 school with the right hire. Cal could probably turn alot of schools (insert generic non name brand school aka Memphis) into a thorn in blue bloods sides. The problem is historically IU hasn't done anything in decades except think they are relevant. Butler has had 2 different coaches (at a small school) achieve more than IU. Does Indiana have potential? Sure, they had a name brand at 1 point before our time and that would make it easier to make some noise verses the Butlers etc. IU trolls coming over here portraying it as they have a turn key complete system to be a blue blood is the problem with his statement and that's just not the case because the school itself isn't a top 5 school. The state has potential recruits, the fan base craves to be relevant, and the boosters want to spend money but none of that makes IU a top 5 school.
UK, UNC, Kansas, Puke could argue top 5 easily but I'm sure we could name 5-10 other schools that could easily make a claim for the 5th spot over IU. Sorry it's just not a top 5 school. Currently they are barely a top 5 in the state if you look at their record this year.
Since they won their last championship I could have had a baby, put him through college, watch him get married and have his own kid in elementary school.
Adding Donovan to IU makes Donovan a top coach it doesnt make IU a top school, maybe a hot school now, for the kids, but not a top 5 blue blood. To me in order to be in that conversation you have to be able to sustain success which IU hasn't done.
