Indiana now is like UK was in 2009. Cal realized we were a sleeping giant and took it "because it's Kentucky". Indiana eats, sleeps and poops basketball. The right guy has the potential to have Cal-like success for the next eight years.

Even during that time, there were massive differences between uk and IU. Not even comparable. IU isn't even a blue blood.

The difference is, Kentucky is a cool program.

Indiana is not, by a long shot.

He hasn't been at OKC very long. I'd be surprised if he bolted.

It's hard to hire an NBA coach to college, especially one who might go into the playoffs. When we hired Quick Rick, we were at the very bottom, so it we lost nothing by waiting - would be tough to do that today.

he's a fool for leaving florida. same resources, better recruiting, lower expectations, and better fans.
We all hate the hell out of IU but in BB with Donovan they have better resources, better recruiting, and better fans. UF is a football school always will be.They're fans don't care about BB. It's a diversion until spring FB practice. All of that being said there's no way Billy D.takes that job IMO.

No way should Donovan go to IU! If he wants to return to college, why go to IU?

I disagree with saying IU is like us in 2009. No, they're not. They haven't been relevant in college basketball in many years. While some on here bash Tubby, he did do a good job of keeping us at the top. He just didn't have much success in the tourney at the end. Other than the last couple years, Tubby was a good coach for us. So, we had been relevant and just made a wrong hire. INdiana could definitely get back to their winning ways with the right hire but NOBODY is going to have Calipari like success except Calipari and maybe Coach K. That's it in college basketball. They can become relevant again for sure but not like we are.

Alford is not happening. I assure you.

And as far as money goes we will easily give Donovan as much if not more than Cal makes.

How do you assure us? How do you know? I doubt you would be here if you knew that. I guess you know more than your own boy Dakich who predicted Alford. Even if he were going to come, do you think he would even let ANYONE know? Just think about it for a min.

I hope you were being sarcastic with that last sentence.

If Westbrook doesn't resign soon i could see Billy take another job. Just not in the pastures in Bloomington.

Billy Donovan to IU is 0% possibility. So I find it cute IU fans keep talking about it. IU would have a better shot at Fred Hoiberg.

I wouldn't speak in absolutes in regards to Donovan.

He's made people look foolish who have done so in the past

Indiana is a top 5 job. Get your head out of the sand. UK fans couldn't stand a BD/IU combo.

Lots of talent in the state and tradition.

Talent issue is Cal and Pitino nearby and those other 3 colleges that are better than IU.

The tradition of late is that you guys have sucked for a long time. 1987? 19 freaking 87?

Hope it doesn't happen. BD would instantly have IU back on the map.

Can't dismiss the fact that he made the move to coach Westbrook & KD...and KD is gone.

Dude has a top 10-12 team, a top 5 player in the world, a top 20 pick in a deep draft, and is one smart free agency move away from competing for and winning titles...

He has two titles and not a whole lot left to prove at the college level.

Win an NBA title or a couple of them, and he is on the Mt. Rushmore of coaches.

If you don't leave Florida for Kentucky, you're not leaving the league for IU.

Listen, I'm sure in person that you are the best sub-human piece of filth that there possibly could be so dont take this personal but your program is a has been run down 100 year old cooter that everyone is just waiting on to die and release the imprisoned sand snakes.

Any decent coach knows UK, UNC, Duke , UL and Arizona will come open in the next few years.... Donovan wants back into coaching???? I think he's smart enough to wait for a program thats been good since 1990

Because it's the best college basketball job that's available on the market. No questions.

LMAO!!! This is just too funny. Well, you're right about that. I guess it would be the best open job in the country when you're the only open job in the country.

I finally understand why you guys make shrines about beating us and cut down nets for regular seasons. I finally see why you do it.

Wait... is Washington still open? If so then they are the best job open in college.

Why are people thinking Donovan wants to get out of the NBA? Dude has been an impressive coach. Honestly, if I was him... I'd wait for Pops to retire and take over San Antonio

Wait wait say it again, I must have missed the punchline somewhere in there. Your not even the top program in the state.

Maybe you can have T-shirts made that say you havent lost a final four game in decades. Just don't try to sell them in Ft. Wayne or Butler area....

No, it's not a top 5 job and that's why your list is usually 20 names long. You wiff on the best constantly. Donovan isn't going to Indiana. You're going to get Alford or Marshall, both better coaches than what you've had in 30 years.

And don't start talkin tough over here because you feel empowered by rumors. Indiana isn't a top 15 job today. So pitiful Kentucky didn't even feel a home and home was worthy enough.

That just gives him more time. They like him in OKC. From everything I've read about his situation, he's good well into a new rebuilding phase. All parties involved knew he could lose Durant.

He's also well liked in the fraternity. He could easily get another NBA gig.

Also consider this, Duke is about to be open. Of course right now that job is Capels, but if Billy wanted it how does Duke say no? They wouldn't.

UNC is going to open up in the next 5 years. Even UK could open in 6-7 years. He can hand pick his next college move, if he even wants it.

Would you really take Indiana, modern Indiana, over that field?
