Kinda early to be worried about two of the teams best returning players, don't ya think? One of Koch or Sage need to make a leap
I'll say this. Payton Mac is impressing me with his defense.
I said earlier I think he'll earn a s;pot in the rotation in the next yearI'll say this. Payton Mac is impressing me with his defense.
He's a pest, and he's "ice" at the line.I said earlier I think he'll earn a s;pot in the rotation in the next year
I meant to say what you just did...not a scorer ...not a surprise.Mckeever wasn't billed as a scorer! He's a great rebounder and passer.
I am getting a Sam Hoiberg vibe, does that sound about right? TiaHe's a pest, and he's "ice" at the line.
What are you talking about? Pick a better post to try and call me out next time.Kinda early to be worried about two of the teams best returning players, don't ya think?
I made that same comment a while back. Under rated coaches kid who ended up being the glue for a pretty good Nebraska squad. Then of course we got the "little Lick" comments.I am getting a Sam Hoiberg vibe, does that sound about right? Tia
?? Your post #54 was "One of Koch or Sage needs to make a leap". Generally that would mean they need to play much better than last year. Down the stretch last year, especially in the NCAA they were two of our best players and difference makers. What are you talking about? Pick a better post to try and call me out next time.
I said when he was at the free throw line at the end of the game that you can tell the kid has been in the weight room. Sure he isn’t Andre Woolridge, but who is? For a kid a year and change out of high school, who didn’t inherit High-Major D1 genetics from his parents, he seems to be putting the work in to someday earn some important playing time.I said earlier I think he'll earn a s;pot in the rotation in the next year
BAU7’3” and misses a dunk. Yikes.
It's funny how everyone was pissing and moaning prior to and even during the NCAA Tournament........until we started winning. Can't believe all of the negative comments already......how soon we forget.
You mean he's better than Lil Lick? His offense isn't completely total trash either.
(kinda got stuffed once, but his outside shot looks serviceable)
Not very comfortable, is it?88-64 final
meh
The shot attempt in the paint that got stuffed was a bit Lil Lick-ish, but going by last night he can make his 3s and FTs.You mean he's better than Lil Lick?
Agreed...they just look like a coaches kid from their play...good fundamentals and good effort on defense even if not the most athletic. He looks like he has a lot more potential than I gave him credit for.I am getting a Sam Hoiberg vibe, does that sound about right? Tia
I was thinking the same, but then immediately gagged because I compared him to a former Husker.I am getting a Sam Hoiberg vibe, does that sound about right? Tia
Ya the athleticism and dominance you'd expect from a 7"3 guy is missing but the size and threat of him will be big benefit. We lost several games last year because we just couldn't match the other teams size in the paint including the E8 loss to Illinois. That's why centers are so high in demand. You either have size or you don't. He'll give are ball handlers and guys running off ball off screens a lot more freedom. If you don't respect him crashing down off the roll we can go over top for easy dunk/layup. Defensively he'll clog the middle and rebound. The impact he'll make will be greater than just his statistics imo which I think will be close to what they were at St Mary's.I was expecting more of a presence from McKeiver in the middle.
I know, the season is still young. He just didn't impress me last night.
Tom Davis used to say you need a big guy to neutralize the other teams big guy.Ya the athleticism and dominance you'd expect from a 7"3 guy is missing but the size and threat of him will be big benefit. And we got the biggest of big guys. Except purdue, probablyTom Davis used to say you need a big guy to neutralize the other teams big guy.
BM mentioned in post game that he could have just ran the same actions to McKeever in the post over and over again (to score) but used this game to try a bunch of different lineups and plays. So it's hard to really gauge much IMOI was expecting more of a presence from McKeiver in the middle.

I went to the game last night and while I am not a basketball savant...it was apparent to me that they were "trying things". It was, well, an exhibition.BM mentioned in post game that he could have just ran the same actions to McKeever in the post over and over again (to score) but used this game to try a bunch of different lineups and plays. Missing FTs is really the only "negative" I took from the game last night
McKeever is a straight up GIANT. It really is striking in person. And we got the biggest of big guys. Except purdue, probably
How can a team from this level be a bad match up for McKeever?I think we can all agree that wasn't a very impressive first half. Very premature but here are my thoughts...
A few bright spots that are a bit surprising... Peyton and Jirak. If Coleman can convert / improve his decision making; particularly around the rim and he'll be a major asset. He's quick, no doubt.
Combs looked really solid. I'm sure Koch and Sage will come around. Not a good match up for McKeever. Cam with a few bright spots.
I was thinking about Davion Mitchell.I am getting a Sam Hoiberg vibe, does that sound about right? Tia
Doodle couldn't watch due to some family obligations....but from the extended highlights on YT it sure looked like they tried some interesting lineup combinations. Will be fascinating to see how Ben fine tunes that as the season goes along. Defense was shaky at times, but maybe also a byproduct of still figuring out the personnel groupings. You going to watch this game @Hawk-A-Doodle-Doo?![]()
I was expecting more of a presence from McKeiver in the middle.

Ben said in the post game "Drew" had missed 4 or 5 days of practice, so I think he's been under the weather. Still in limited minutes he had 7 assists. They'll run the offense through him a lot, and he'll be a presence in the paint on defense.I was expecting more of a presence from McKeiver in the middle.
I know, the season is still young. He just didn't impress me last night.
I was thinking about Davion Mitchell.
I think he was talking about coaches sons. Hence kind of a Sam Hoiberg. Unhearlded hard worker, spark plug, glue guy.I was thinking about Davion Mitchell.
I thought Jirak probably played the most consistent in his minutes.Jirak's body change and mobility impressed me. PM is very tenacious on defense, but not sure how he will compare to BIG guards. First game hard to get a read on team, but BIG will be tough...........
