St Peters is a dump

SPU isn't in a bad neighborhood. It's just south of JSQ.
Granted, St. Peter's currently may not have the academic standards that some of the other schools in New Jersey have (based on average SAT), but the OP's comment is unfair and is obviously an unwarranted assumption.

Average SAT scores of some major NJ universities. per PrepScholar:

Princeton - 1505
Rutgers New Brunswick - 1300
NJIT - 1290
TCNJ - 1260
Seton Hall - 1231
Ramapo - 1150
Monmouth - 1130
FDU Madson - 1127
Richard Stockton - 1102
Rider - 1100
Rowan - 1095
Montclair State - 1086
St. Peter's - 1030
Kean University - 990
New Jersey City University - 961

Kinda surprised TCNJ is at 1260...they were a hot number in my day...in fact they were probably around 1260 in GS 1.0, believe RU was around 1230/1240 and no other college was coming close to breaking 1200, maybe, maybe Stevens.

Also, kind of surprised here, would have put Rowan ahead of the other NJ publics aside from maybe NJIT...certainly way ahead of Monmouth.

Maybe it's me, but I would say after Princeton, RU, TCNJ and NJIT and Stevens for engineering there's not much nuance among the rest...like I might put Rowan as next of the best, or maybe Drew, but after that's it's whole lot of meh.

I don’t get it. I’ve been there. I did a job with my buddy when I was out of work during CoVID and it was literally right outside the campus. Nothing special and zero academic standards for sure based on the student body that we saw coming in and out lol. How the F do they recruit outside of ‘graded don’t matter.” The SEC already does that.
St. Peter's is 50% African American and 90% minority students, and your observation, "Nothing special and zero academic standards for sure based on the student body that we saw coming in and out lol". This gives us a ton of insight to your perception of minority students. LOW LIFE!!!

I consulted for a time at a large company in NJ that had a lot of St. Peters grads in the IT department. 90% were just fine. The one that had the best grades (according to the others, was really dumb.. and her work showed it... not sure how that happens).

It's a commuter school and, from my experience, those people were interested in working.

That's a pathetic attempt to label someone a racist. 90%? where did you get your numbers?

The enrolled student population at Saint Peter's University is 40.7% Hispanic or Latino, 19.4% Black or African American, 16.9% White, 7.45% Asian, 1.02% Two or More Races, 0.433% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islanders, and 0.217% American Indian or Alaska Native.
I have posted my own disagreement with assessing St. Peters students.. but it is a middling-ranked regional university in terms of USN&WR and it does not require racist thoughts to have a low opinion of it. I disagreed based on St. Peters grads I knew... but those were the ones who proved themselves enough to get hired by a major corporation way back when.

Were they this good last year? Were they this good all this season? Will they be this good next year? I doubt it. But the only thing that matters is they are playing great right now. My point was they did not necessarily out recruit anyone but got a collection of guys that clicked at the right time.
Coaching! IMO

What other conclusion could be drawn from gauging students by merely observing them entering and leaving the school? I would be interested to know. Was it based on how they carried their books?

Because that's all they know how to do. Race was never even mentioned or a thought but race baiters gotta be race baiters..
Maybe so. But the fact that you basically took a dump on these kids because of where they’re from and what school for no reason other than to think you are better than these students makes you look like a pure ****.

So, clarify. Enlighten us on what allowed you to discern academic ability based on physical appearance, as you watched them coming and going from "just off campus".

My parents, aunts, uncles and cousins almost all went to Saint Peters. Several people in my family support the school through serving on the board or through other ways (my one uncle is their team doctor). The school is, in many ways, what it always was...a school for first generation college students from the local area.

When my parents went there, the local area was mostly Italian and Irish, and the school served those people well. Now the local area is more Hispanic, African American, etc...but the identity of the school remains the same...educate and give opportunities to those from the area that for economic or other reasons may not have a ton of other opportunities.

The mission of the school is important and to the extent we want everyone to have a chance to create better lives for themselves than their parents and grandparents had, Saint Peters provides a pathway. It's the ultimate underdog school and I for one am glad to see how well they did and for a place so far away from the spotlight to have a week and a half to bask in the glow of what that team did.

Lol I didn’t know who the guy was before this year.

I was 9 years old when he was at the Hall.

It’s just comical people here still don’t think recruiting matters. And what he’s doing right now isn’t going to give him a big recruiting boost.

Sha is one of the leading candidates to become the next SHU head coach. You sound really scared - so maybe you should go hide under your bed for a couple of years to see how it turns out.

I'll make this proclamation now.......if RU does great or fails in the next 5-10 seasons, it will have nothing to do with how well or bad SHU does with Holloway as it's coach.

Further - people have asked you why a strong SHU (recruiting or on the court) will negatively effect RU other than playing them one game per year. You haven't provided any rational response other than comments acting as if you were a scared child. Of course recruiting matters - but are you saying that there won't be enough strong recruits for both programs - either nationally nor locally? Really makes no sense at all.

Still ignoring the question. What about the students' appearance brought you to the conclusion that the school has "zero academic standards"?

Still waiting on the descriptions of these students that gave off "zero academic standards" vibes. Were they pushing the pull door? Celebrating Pi Day in November? What exactly told you that these students struggle academically?

They don’t want to answer that question. All they done is talk crap by talking down on people that’s not like them, whine when they get called out on their BS, get their CE brothers to defend them by bringing up irrelevant crap that has nothing to do with the ignorant statement made by the OP, bring up their Lord and Savior, Lock the Thread because they just want to talk crap, about people without repercussions: which is basically what the CE is all about.

Is Saint Peter's University Expensive?

Saint Peter's University is fairly expensive when compared to other schools across the United States. It's yearly out-of-state tuition and fees costs for undergrads is $38,760. In-state students pay the same as out-of state ones at Saint Peter's College.

How does the local underprivileged student base come up with 40K in tuition and fees?

I don't think any of those things happened in this thread. I am not familiar with the OP, but his screen name RUHappy followed by "69" is ironic. Who wouldn't be?

It seems more of the opposite occurred in this thread with posters calling out the lack of basis in the original post?

Your stats add up to under 70%, of that 70% - 75% are minorities. I pulled my stats out of a story highlighting the difficulties of coaching at St. Peters.

We'll go with your numbers. 75% of St. Peter's students are minorities and RUhappy69 tells the Forum that "zero academic standards for sure based on the student body that we saw coming in and out lol". Please interpret this comment for me if I'm judging this incorrectly. What did he SEE that gave him the opinion that he presented?
Looks like a racist to me.

Stats are a little over 80%, not 70%. I guess that you just mistyped and not the victim of zero academic standards.

Maybe the books he saw the students carrying were easy readers?
