bro. Stop. When have to ever seen a coach try to punch, slap, face palm another coach? All of these guys are competitors and don’t try to hit other coaches .

A lot of people deserve a lot of things but that doesn’t mean the head basketball coach should be hitting people. It is silly to argue otherwise.

Did you see Rutgers handle a win, we took a shot clock violation from 40-10 because the game was over. Didn't see Wisconsin do that up 16, 50 seconds left, no they took a 3 with 5 on the shot clock up 16. Bush league. That's why Howard extended the game with fouls. He was pissed from that.

So it is okay to punch a coach? If he was pissed he should have just walked to the locker room. When he had to delay his walk you knew there was a problem.

I think Gard actually sort of grabbed Howard as Howard was attempting to blow him off. Probably in an attempt to say “what’s your deal” or something.

If Howard gets in his face a little bit and they trade words, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Can’t throw hands as a coach.

@mikebal9 Gard didn’t push Howard, but he did “impede Howard’s progress”’ to put it in refereeing terms. I think Gard’s intent was to hash out the tension or something; not saying he instigated what turned into a physical argument.

In an earlier post I said Juwan was in the right until the open hand swipe at the coach, but why did Gard have to force a handshake that Juwan clearly wasn't willing to give. Now it is mandatory to shake everyone's hand in a team line? Even after what transpired at the end of the game

Watch literally the video you posted.
1) Juwan doesnt wanna shake gards hand and tries to walk past him. Gard grabs he left arm and forces him back.
2) after that juwan likely tells gard to not touch him, at which time gard still gets verbally aggressive. Juwan doesnt play that BS so then points in his face and tells him what a chump he is
3) wisconsins big assistant comes in tells juwan “get the **** outta here” proceeds to then put hands on TWO michigan players. Juwan responds with a simple slap.

i’ll trust me eyes here, you can trust your narrative

I’m a Howard fan, but as a coach you have to channel your emotions in a different way. He gets a suspension here.

Gard's explanation:

"Apparently he didn't like that I called the timeout to reset the 10-second call. Because we only had four seconds to get the ball over halfcourt," Gard told CBS. "I didn't want to put my backups -- I had all my bench guys in the game -- I didn't want to put them in that position of scrambling with only four seconds. So I took a timeout and got us a new 10 seconds and it helped them get organized and get the ball in. And he did not like that when he came through the handshake line. I'll leave it at that and the tape will show the rest."
No reason for Howard to start a fight over it and no need for gard to push the issue in handshake line. But…that’s just a dumb excuse he gave regardless of truth. There was 15 seconds left…not that impactful if the last guys on the bench commit a TO at that point. And if UM gets one more basket off that TO they’d have their full time to get up court again.

He put his hand out to shake....when Howard ignored him he blocked with hand and did not grab.Juwan was wrong. Coaching now in this PC world is hard and Juwan does not fit in. He is a spoiled brat who has been coddled his whole life starting at UM with payoffs. Now coaching is different and he will not always get the benefit of doubt from a players union or a school benefactor paying his way as a player.

Sorry if this will hurt his feelings.

Gard knew Howard was pissed about the TO and all he did was grab his arm to talk to him and guarantee what he was trying to tell him was that I only called the TO there bc you were pressing. I brought in my scrubs as a gesture to call off the dogs and you pressed them

Howard can't have it both ways. Can't press when the game is over and expect the other team to just give up. If you're playing to the whistle like the game isn't over then they should keep playing too

Yeah, I don’t disagree. Should have ended with the two head coaches barking at each other for a few seconds.

In 2022? People will act like this is the equivalent of a murder being shown on national tv. In the 90’s this is your average tuesday.
1) it was a slap
2) its damnnnnn refreshing to see that not every basketball player/program is full of a soft culture where you wanna be best friends with your opponents.

This was nothing. Not one person ever landed a punch haha

Umm that was simply not a good look regardless of the decade. As a coach you have to rise above. He acts barely above an 18 yr old mindset too many times. Anyway all I really care about is if it can help us in our upcoming game.

I saw a clip on IG, and it showed Moussa Diabate (#14), Terrance Williams (#5), and Adrien Nunez (#0) of Michigan throwing a punch or shove members of Wisconsin during the fallout. I have to believe they will be suspended along with Howard. I'm not sure Gard of Wisconsin is innocent of possibly being suspended too for one game.

He was in the wrong here; as I said in my post, you can’t throw hands as a coach. I was merely pointing out that your description of events appeared to miss that Gard didn’t let Howard walk away. Howard should be suspended.

However, I don’t think you’ve read much about Howard’s life.

Exactly. Saw the same thing. All 3 will likely face a suspension for throwing punches

Stop with the fake tough guy act, please. We get it, you're a man's man who thinks you should defend yourself physically at every turn. A timeout is a punch able offense. No one hurt means nothing No one thinks this is murder, but what is your actual point? That throwing punches shouldn't lead to suspensions?
At 5'6" what competitive sport did you play???????

Observation and Questions:

It is obvious that Howard did not like the timeout call with 15 seconds left and said so to Gard.

I am not certain, but Gard tried to talk to Howard.
We do not know what Howard said to Gard and Gard said to Howard before they were separated.

What we don't know is why Howard came forward and slapped the Wisconsin Assistant coach.
Did the Wisconsin Assistant Coach (ex-Wisconsin player) say something to provoke Howard into coming forward to slap him in the face?

My Opinion:
The situation was already heated, so assistant coaches on both sides should keep their mouth shut and keep their players away from the opposing players and coaches.

There is no excuse for fighting during or after a basketball game.

I would not be surprised to see both Howard and the Wisconsin Assistant Coach suspended.
The players that threw punches should also be suspended.

The Big Ten should investigate this situation further from start to finish (game through the end of the incident after the game).

Juwann Howard will be suspended but I’m betting there will be other accusations coming tomorrow by Michigan , one’s which will attempt to cast mutual blame upon Gard and his staff. This is a former Michigan Legend, Olympian, All Star , and part of the Blue Blood Nation. If this were a Rutgers coach he would be suspended , castrated by the news media and the B1G conference. Imagine what state politicians would be saying or calling for ? This will somehow be washed away pretty quickly . Just be happy it’s NOT Rutgers here as they would be calling for us being ousted from the B1G.
