He needs to be suspended after throwing a punch
Nope....Just fired.

And didn't Juwan call a timeout against RU with less than 10 seconds to play while they were down by 8? And of course his frosh center was about to go at several RU players.

Enough: FIRE HIS ***!

It must be great to live inside Howard's lack of equality....

Did Gard physically hit anyone? He’s innocent. Verbal stuff is fine. Happens all the time. Very bad take.
I would not say gard is the damsel in distress innocent victim here. I’m fine with giving him a game for his part in instigating during the handshake line which includes the light hands on the arm part. Call it like a double tech to two players who get in a tiff during a game regardless of who ‘started it.’

I have to say I am looking forward to hearing what Gard said to Howard in the line. Definitely heated from the get go. But Howard is clearly feeling the pressure of being a head coach and how to manage oneself as the head honcho of a school with expectations as high as Michigan's. It's different being a coach than it is a player, as the example has to be set by the leader. Howard's behavior is significant, as is any head coach's, especially since Diabate seems to be studying his coach's hand-throwing tactics quite closely.
Based on experience, I would think Gard was explaining that he called the timeout because Moe Howard was full court pressing.

And Moe Howard didn’t want to hear it. Screw him.

How can KYK make so many stupid comments? Howard should be banished from coaching in college and Diatabe should miss a few games plus anyone else who threw punches. I coached high school sports for 40 years and my team won several Sportsmanship Awards. I am proud of that. Win or lose you don't start a brawl. Howard is at least 6'10" or taller and Coach Gard is what about 5'8" or so. What a great representative for Michigan. Michigan gave one of our guys a cheap and hard foul with only a few seconds left when the game was over and Diatabe went nuts at our handshake line as well. Obviously some Michigan people have some anger management issues.
You must be new here…

I do not think he should be fired, but he should have a few game suspension. It was ridiculous.

Players all love Howard supposedly. He has recruited well. I’d rather have my coach push an opponents coach then push his own player during halftime of a NCAA game on the National stage.

Gard wasn’t willing to be the better man. You are winning by 17. Let it go. Had he let it go there is no altercation.
I get that, but it is his prerogative. Frankly, I thought when Howard did it at Jersey Mike's it was stupid, but I had no problem with him coaching the way he wanted to.

These things are not worth getting heated over. You can walk by, shake, and not say a damn word.

Gards explanation on CBS makes me angry.

Howard needs to be gone for the remainder of the season
Why?

There are two explanations:

1. Howard tried to walk by Gard without shaking hands, which is just poor sportsmanship on Howard's part, regardless of whether he agreed or disagreed with the timeout. You shake hands, and address it in the press conference or you say your piece while shaking hands. Here is what is unclear: it appears Gard reached out with his left hand and placed his left hand on Howard's right arm. Perhaps he was gently trying to stop him to take a minute to explain the timeout. Then Howard grabbed Gard's shirt, and shook his finger in his face.

2. Perhaps Gard was being aggressive, grabbing Howard's right arm, and Gard said something provocative, setting off Howard. That's a little bit better for Howard.

The third thing is what Joe Krabbenhof said/did to provoke the slap. There was a B1G official who was trying to intervene, and there were the two Michigan players. #5 looked like he wanted to get in a scrum, and he was smiling at the end.

The problem for Howard, is he has a history of bad behavior and being easily triggered and a sore sport. Don't know if Gard has such a history.

Calling that timeout is bush league and then making it a big deal that Howard didn’t want to shake his hand.

Not saying they are equal.
Bush league is Michigan pressing when Wisconsin game is over. Bush league is Howard calling a time out with 15 seconds left In our game. Bush league and fireable offense is what Howard did at end of game. Big difference .

Big facts being spoken here. The dude who walked in you can clearly say “get the **** out of here” to juwan. The puff his chest out. People these days wayyyyy too comfortable talkin **** thinking aint no body gonna do anything about it. Justice served. Dont reciprocate that energy unless youre about that life. Little *** boy cowered once slapped, chest deflated. Softie got what he deserved

Not just one but two A holes.

Yup!! I cannot believe people are defending his slap just because he may have been told to get the F out....

Obviously you don’t want a melee during a game, but all the fake anger in this thread is tiresome. Fans and media all wax poetic about the “rough, gritty, old big east”. Well this sort of stuff was commonplace back then and partially made the big east what it was. It’s what fuels rivalries and makes things interesting.

Guys like Howard don’t stop unless someone rocks them square in the face. Suspensions won’t change his character.

Pressing down 15 isn’t bush league. Calling a TO is. Just my opinion.

have to admit Gard didn’t handle things like he should have.

Pressing with ~1 minute left down 15 when the other team’s scrubs are in??

Maybe not bush league but if you want to play to the whistle then you need to keep your cool when the other guy responds in kind.

That’s bush league.

Coaches swinging at coaches was commonplace?? Sorry don’t recall that.

Howard didn’t want any part of the conversation and then Gard got physical. Clearly told gard not to touch him and he wouldn’t stop impeding Howard’s progress to move away.

Then the coaches get separated by staff and it’s gonna diffuse itself and the assistant coach from Wisconsin comes in and inserts himself and starts yelling at Howard raising tensions again for no reason.

Howard than crosses the line. Situation should’ve been avoided.

Looking at the video coming out closely it appears there was a Wisconsin player who completely instigated the player part of the altercation. Don’t blame any Michigan players for this and would hope the Wisconsin player gets a suspension before anyone else.
