Which is the point of Carino and the SHU slant to the whole thing.....SHU handled this badly, they have UConn now in their kitchen too, and St John's, while seemingly underachieving for the better part of the last decade, has a real coach and fast paced system in place now.....add the Nova factor and SHU falls to 5th in pecking order in our region without playing RU.
I don't think RU is ahead of Cuse in football the last 20 years because of actual head to head matchups on the field or at the Carrier Dome. It is ahead by a very substantial margin for the next decade because Cuse "used to be" a brand name in both sports in the primary area.....now it's limited to just hoops and Cuse football is not mentioned in a way when it comes to football recruiting battles.....the game has changed to RU, vs PSU, MSU, OSU and Michigan, Maryland etc etc....
If you continue to give SHU air to breathe, they're going to take it and run with it....they NEED this game, this gate, this publicity.
The old timers want to play Princeton for the same "sentimental value".....well, no one thinks of Princeton in terms of basketball and the more you play SHU, the more they stay relevant......close the garage door and move forward as RU and others take the stage in NJ, front and center. It's all about revenue, RU has it, SHU doesn't and needs it. Let their petty, short-sighted decision, becomes costly for them and then do a 2 for 1 in a decade, when we see the grand separation financially and literally in every aspect between the two schools and programs in terms of marketing and everything else in between.
