I get it. That said, you are too emotional about this but hopefully Rutgers leadership is not. When you are too emotionally attached to an outcome you make bad decisions. Like letting Seton Hall dictate terms to us.

Either play at the RAC next season or we’ll slap NY on that trophy and set up a series with St John’s. Up to you Seton Hall.
I am opposed to the Hall having this game at their place

I see it as Seton Hall wanting this series to end and use last year as cover. Yes I know Seton Hall needs an RU home game for revenue purposes. But losing to an instate University (big brother/little brother) would do tremendous damage on the recruiting trail. One that could effect multiple recruiting cycles. Williard knows this is what is at risk. He knew they would have gotten blown out last year. That is why the game was cancelled. Now they have cover to walk away from the contract and "Blame" RU. It's a win win for them.

One thing I never get about our fanbase is our superiority complex that causes us to spurn all rivalry games.

Seriously, if the shoe game goes away we have no more rivals left. PSU and MD aren’t our rivals and will never be our rivals. Ditto for any of the other Big 10 programs.

This is all about ticket revenue for SHU. They didn't want to play Rutgers at home last year because they'd lose gate money.... so they scheduled two games away from home that they get a return home game for this season. They were perfectly happy playing away games last year, just not home ones - because away games mean home money later.

Now they want to get the home game back this year.... after taking a Quad 1 game away from us last year, they want to take home ticket revenue away this year. And for what in return? Nada.

If they want to make up their home game this year, while still playing at the RAC this year (home and home in the same season), I think I'd be on board for that.

Who are these “all” that you speak of?

In football our closest thing to actual rivals are/were Princeton, Temple, Syracuse, and Penn State (one-sided). Three are on our schedule this year and one stopped the series with us.

In basketball I’m not sure what happened to Princeton nor do I care. Other than that it’s pretty much Seton Hall. Make the Dance 8 times in the next 10 years and we’ll start to develop some fun games with Maryland. We have to earn that. Heck, let’s beat Indiana’s *** again this coming season and they will quickly become irritated by the streak.

Understand your point.
But I feel when you allow a rival to dictate the terms of rivalry, you're not a rival but beggar.
Seton Hall agreed to the terms, decided they didn't like meeting those terms and went a different direction.
Now Seton Hall wants a do over that ignores how they violated the original agreement and decided to amend that agreement to ignore it being Rutgers turn to host the game.
RU doesn't need that type of relationship with any program, rival or not.

Last time terms like what SHU wants in order to play RU was when the Rutgers football team agreed to play Penn St with 2 home games being played in Happy Valley for one home game for Rutgers and that game at the Meadowlands . That series started in 1977 and ended 1992.
RU MBB doesn't have to let itself be treated that way, even if it's a one time give up rights to a home game.

I am not speaking for my friend Wheezer, but I think you are conflating two disparate things.

One is that this rivalry is very strong. You can feel it at the Rutgers Club 2.5 hours before the game. You can feel it as soon as you enter the RAC. This rivalry is big.

Completely separate and distinct from that is the fact that our little smurf rivals from South Orange Community College reneged on the contract. They unilaterally cancelled the game without a mention to us, when everyone was playing games everywhere, and now they say they want a do over. They gave up their home game. Period. Screw them.

Lastly, I would hate to lose a rival, but the smurfs made a sh!tty decision, and decisions have consequences. Next game is at the RAC, or go pound salt. We can schedule lots of teams in place of SOCC.

You really believe that State Penn and Maryland will NEVER be our rivals? Never is a very long time, my friend.

Easy fix - Play at the Rock this year guaranteeing RU 8,000 tickets and then split total gate.
Along with letting our season ticket holders sit in the same spot in the Roc they do at the RAC while also doing the same for the Rutgers students behind the basket and you might have something.

That's a load of horse$hit. There are very few Rutgers fans who believe it.

Usually the shu fans are over here spouting their crap defending themselves but not this time because they're wrong and they know it. We are in the Big Ten, let's act like it!

Uh I believe it. We have one rival. That's shu. If you're calling literally any other big ten team our rival, their fanbase would look at you like you have two heads and we don't exist. Nobody bats at eye when either fanbase says ru-shu is a rivalry.

Who exactly do you think is our rival? Would love to hear the embarrassing answer.

It’s a game/series I don’t mind, like Princeton. But won’t lose and sleep or cry over it if it goes away.

These two things are both true:

1. Seton Hall did Rutgers dirty last year. RU was holding dates open for the game, and SHU went and scheduled other games instead including against Penn State.

2. Rutgers should not use that as a reason to exit the rivalry entirely. Suck it up, play at SHU this year and extend the current contract so that each team gets the same number of home games. Be the good guy.
I wish I could see that as being the good guy.

They break the contract and then we capitulate to their demand for a home game that is contractually ours?

To me that’s being a putz. In my view they are the ones who need to suck it up and honor their commitment to come to the RAC next year.

I strongly disagree with some of the sentiment in this thread saying things like

"we wont miss this game"
"this isn't a rivalry" "we have other rivals"
"we don't need it"

Many reasons to disagree with those but the RU - SHU game does have extra meaning and juice. And just letting that go away as-if it were any other non-conference game is a major mistake. SHU is wrong so we do have to hold our ground at the negotiation table. But this game is always fun, exciting, meaningful, accessible for both fan bases, and even its a legitimate resume opportunity for both sides now.
