He withdrew his name from consideration which means he didn't have an offer. if he had the offer in hand, it would be said he turned it down.

Danny Hurley is not Coach K. If the job is too big a challenge for him or if he thinks he can make more money elsewhere or if he simply didn't want the job, better we find out now and wish him luck in future endeavors. From what we have seen of Hobbs, he does not want a coach that is not all-in. I trust him on this and think we will end up in a good spot when all is said and done.

This x 1000. Great post !

Gotta believe Johnny Dawkins is now in play, given his experience and ties to Coach K..The mention of bringing Billet back as an assistant is a tip off..

If that's who it is, we should build a statue of Hobbs immediately.

Part of my reason for wanting Hurley to be coach (Sednek was my #1 from the start) is to put the whole "what if we just hired a Hurley" thing to bed. Either it was going to help us succeed or it wasn't. I'm just tired of the name popping up every time there's an opening, or needing a quote from Bob Sr. every time we hire a coach.

That's the only reason I was glad Eddie Jordan got hired actually. I got so sick of him being THE best choice because he knew the program.

Even with lots of assurances, 6 years, and big money and we are still turned down. We are getting someone way down on the pecking order I'm afraid.

I think it would be a good hire (and would take his results in a heartbeat), but the guy made the NCAAs once in 8 years and was above .500 in conference twice so he's not statue material (IMO). A much better hire than I would have expected though.

Four 20 win seasons would sure be nice.

Even if he won all three?

I see that name, and I see the Star Ledger jumping on the obvious. As soon as he hit a bump in the road, and given our talent level there will be major bumps in the 1st couple of seasons, that nickname will emerge. Not a reason to not hire him, but I would not be overwhelmed by it.

Why would bringing Billet back as an assistant be a tip off? What does Billet have to do with Dawkins?

Just thinking both are former guards, one a former player..Just a hunch...I still think Dawkins may be the new name because he was just let go..

His source is the Subway on Easton Ave.

Bobby Knight?

I wouldn't put anything to this as the MILF's at the Hillsborough Deli aren't getting excited and moist yet.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If you are using Billet as a tip off the logical choice would be King Rice. Billet was an assistant at Monmouth although not under Rices tenure but I do not think you can read too much into the Billet comment.

Great basketball pedigree makes Dawkins plausible but is he known to be a hard nosed recruiter. Honestly, I don't know but that's not the impression I get from him. Dooley has a great pedigree too but I don't know how much of hard nosed recruiter he is. He seems to have more of that tenacity to be described like that though. Sendek or Lonergan who I like as well have nice pedigrees too but are they considered tough recruiters? Funny how we're all parsing words with a fine tooth comb to figure out who it could be. But that's what we do on message boards right, lol.

If it's the same name going around elsewhere, this name is way too good for us and I am heavily skeptical of it happening.
